It works with a lot of things, cloning is mostly seen during a match with scourges.

He means cloning irradiate to irradiate multiple units. Cloning 3 SCV to all scout the other bases(I'm assuming 3 SCV for LT) And to stack all your Wraith together so it's harder for your opponent to hit more than 1 of your Wraith at a time.

Well that wraith part was especially hard to understand. Oh and by the way, how is stacking wraiths "cloning". That's simply stacking not cloning ;;

Cloning is a process of telling multiple units to do things seperately. For an example, let's use 5 Scourge to kill 5 Observers. Normally, it's hard to click the Scourge seperately while moving towards the obs, and if you're too slow, the Archons will kill the Scourge. Cloning will help you move all 5 Scourge onto 5 dif obs quickly. 1st step - Select all 5 Scourge 2nd step - Tell all 5 to attack 1 ob 3rd step - Shift select the wireframe of a Scourge to deselect it from the group. You now have 4 Scourge selected. 4th step - Tell the 4 to attack another ob. 5th - shift select 1 6th - Tell the 3 Scourge to attack another ob. Just keep doing that until you only have 1 Scourge left and have it kill the last ob. Sounds kinda confusing, but if you try it out vs the comp, it's pretty simple. Try doing this a few times vs the comp on your 4 worker split. - Tell 4 to mine, deselect 1, tell the 3 to mine another patch, deselect 1, tell 2 to mine another patch, deselect 1, and tell last one to mine another patch. Hope this helps explain to you what cloning is and how it's done.

He clones like 6 wraiths perfectly in the middle of the map. Dunno why, or what game it was, but he clones all of them to go to a different direction. It looked really crazy.

It's just a lot harder with faster moving units like Scourge, but the good thing in ZvP (sair) is you only need two for each Sair so you don't have to click enemies as much ![]()

It's used to separate 4 workers in the beginning to different mineral patches, but that's usually a matter of preference. Cloning also helps when you micro scourge to target separate units or else they could be really dumb and you end up having 5 scourge hitting 1 muta. Spellcasters also benefit from cloning in specific situations such as when you have a group of vessels and you scan a group of lurkers that are at a distance you can use the time it takes for the vessels to reach the lurkers to irradiate separate lurkers efficiently as long as you make sure you finish the cloning before the vessels actually reach the lurkers or else you may end up stacking irradiates on one lurker. Overall, I would say cloning is good when you need to accomplish multiple instances of the same task but to different targets given that you have time to execute the clone. The window of time needed to clone is probably why it has limited uses because it can't really be used in the heat of battle.

On March 11 2005 21:32 GosuAmerican wrote: ok i have tryied this coloning thing and all that happends when i shift click on the wire fram is that it deselects the unit? am i doing this wrong? Yes, that's the whole point of cloning. What happens after you deselect a unit is that you tell the rest of the group to perform the same task you told the previous group except on a different target, then deselect another unit and have that new group perform the same task on yet another target - rinse and repeat until you have only 1 unit left in the group. The reason why it's called cloning is because you are trying to efficiently separate a group of units into sub-groups doing the same task on different targets. The reason why you deselect by clicking on the wireframe instead of the actual unit is because in most cases, cloning is done while in motion which makes it harder to deselect if you click on the unit.

i was watching FPS nada, and he clone irridiated lurkers not by shift selecting but he would press the hotkeyed group, and choose an individual vessel each time and just irridiate like that a bit slower, but if you're fast enough it would still be effective and you wouldnt have the risk of wasting irridiates

Its not that hard precision is important so u dont target the same unit twice. Remember that u need to be some distance away so you have time to clone them correctly. Of course people are fast enough to clone 4 workers at the start. I mean, even I can lol. Basically, before every move or whatever command you want, you hold shift and click on one of the wireframe things at the bottom center of your screen, then you let go off shift, do your move command or whatever, then hold shift and press another wireframe. Each time 1 unit wil be excluded from the new command, so that they all recieve different commands at the end.

So, basically "cloning" means to select a bunch of units, order them to perform an specific task, remove any amount of units from the group, order them another task, and so on, until u have no more units to order. ¿Is that so?

Yup. Sometimes you might want to remove 2 miners from your group when you're cloning 12 miners to an expansion, and sometimes only 1. I use 8 miners always anyway so its like 1 removal each time.
