so..heres another one of those quirky questions from me..

heh..sorry..

Irradiate
1) how much damage/second does it do?
2) does the damage/second ratio change when you stack them?
- IE irraditing 2 vessels and hosing some guys workerline.

heh..sorry i know this ones gonna be hard to dig up xD

im pretty sure you can stack irrad for example

1sci vessel iradiated and 1 muta is 2x more damage than just the muta if they are all directly on top of each other, but of course i could be wrong.

These are things you can very easily test out if you just play against a comp in single player and run the game in slow mode.

Also visit http://www.battle.net/scc for this type of question.
Thats like makin a soldier drop his weapon, shootin him, then tellin him to get to steppin. Obviously, they came to portion up his fortune. Sounds to me like that ol ROBBERY/EXTORTION.

irradiate does 3.5 damage per hit, i'm not sure how long 1 hit is, could be 1 second (normal time). In total, it does 250 hp damage.
this means only ultra's survive...
irradiate's stack infinitely, but of course you can only irradiate each unit once, doing this twice doesn't add damage but renews the spell.

all from memory so hope it right.

Devourers survive too, if it is at full health which is 250. So they will be left with like 10-20 health.

ya they are right, stacking does increase dmg.. i think it does like 10 dmg per second.. i notice when i'm hovering over drones with 2 sci vessels irradiated, it usually takes 3 seconds to kill them. just a guess tho

when you stack them, it's just like doing a double irridiate.. that guy said 3.5/s, i thought it was three, but I never pay attention that much..so if you stack two irridiated vessels ontop of one another, it'll be doing 7/s. irridate 6, send them to a mineral pile to stack, and go melt his whole ling force when he's going ultra ling! I wonder if you stacked like 12, if scourge would even be able to get close enough to kill them

I think when you have 2 irradiated vessels and running from scourges ,they die from the irradiate usually before killing the vessels.The zerg could prolly micro better though , cause if you cant run..But certainly can help in some situations.
MadFrog : In my opinion, the biggest reason why WC3 is dying is because it is not such a great game as Brood War is.

Oh man, I once did that to some zerg, I iradiated like 5 vessels and moved over like a 100 zerglings (was a long time ago, they were all in his main), it was instant death for the zerglings.

Vessels leave a trail of blood, so cool

i never thought that you could overlapp irradiate damage when its applied to mechanical units, i thought the 2 vessel trick was only to cover more area not to kill faster o___o;

well i used irritated vessels front of marines as shield against mass cracklings in sc ..was wonderful Actually terrans who is massing vessels are damn anoying

the problem with 12 vessels is that you have to be really fast
You have to be a little bit outside his base so he can't see it but if you are not fast enough the first irradiate is gone when you have casted the 12th and have flew to his base

because its most coast effective, one is to little, 2 is just enough. send 10 they could get gg'd, and then you'd be fucked by losing so much money off the vessles which you need for mid-late game for ultraz and guards.

a godly trick i used to do vs lings hitting my tanks = defense matrix and irradiate on my tank = gg zerglings.
this also works nicely on scis.

remember that the defense matrix = 250 temporary damage shielding.
imagine an arbitor or a carrier protoss ally with defense matrix on it.

yeah but grot, i could still only irrad 1 sci and send it you dont necesarily have to send both so im thinking whoever origionally thought of the idea was thinking 2 was an economical number and everyone else just copied as usual without really thinking about the idea.

nah not really, the vessel wouldn't reach the drones in time.. he'd dodge with drones and you wouldn't catch up

Units with D-matrix takes 57 dmg from Irradiate

About that vessel stack vs scourge:
12 vessel, 24 scourge

I just use the hotkeys to cast spells. I remembering doing something like that once, but I plagued units instead of dark swarming them tt

Actually, I think its closer to 11 damage per second Excal. Kills a lurker in just about 13 seconds, 125 hps, lurker has 1 default armor. That equates to a high 9 or something per second, but my timing wasn't exact. Anywho.

So all you kids out there playing Z, remember to upgrade your armor (:

Except Irradiate (like all damage over time spells) ignores armor.

Okay here's the conclusive info.

Irradiate does 10 damage per second on Fastest, 250 total. Fastest runs at 20 frames per second. That means Irradiate does 3.33 damage about every 7 frames. On every third damage tic, it counts 6 frames instead of 7. On every third damage tic, it does 4 damage instead of 3.

Also what works really well is, if your army is composed mostly of metal units, and he has Zealots, is you Irradiate his Interceptors. Since Interceptors tend to swarm near the units they are attacking, as do Zealots, the Irradiate will kill the Zealots very effeciently. You may have difficulty clicking the Interceptors at first, but don't worry - once he has 24 Carriers, you won't have any problems with that.

a fleet of irad+matrixed vessels can fly over hydras or anything and just kill anything under them almost immediately.

But once he has 24 carriers, he will have only
200 - 24*6 = 56 / 2 = 28 zeals left MAX (with workers it'll probable not get higher than 10 zeals, so that would make them very to irrad, even if you use irrad on the interceptors^^. I think, in this case you're better off worrying about the carriers first.
