Well, i think that this will be interesting for somebody. So, when different units are selected and given orders - for example marine and medic, we see the medic's pictire and hear the medic's voice - because the medic has higher rank than a marine. I made an experiment to see the ranks of all units, incl. heroes from all races (for example, what happens, when you select a zealot, a hydralisk and a firebat). There are some units with equal ranks - if they are selected one by one, we see the picture of the first selected unit. If you drag a rectangle around such units, a random unit is chosen.
So, the ranks are: (from lower to higher, units with equal ranks are on the same line) 1. Probe, Civilian, Larva 2. SCV, Interceptor, Lurker Egg 3. Marine, Observer, Cocoon 4. Medic, Zealot, Broodling 5. Firebat, Drone, Dragoon 6. Ghost, Zergling, Reaver 7. Vulture, Scourge, High Templar 8. Goliath, Infested Terran, Shuttle 9. Siege Tank, Overlord, Scout, Corsair 10. Dropship, Hydralisk, Archon, Dark Archon 11. Wraith, Mutalisk, Lurker, Arbiter 12. Science Vessel, Guardian, Carrier 13. Devourer, Defiler, Dark Templar, Gui Montag (FB hero), Mojo, Artanis (Scout heroes), Warbringer (Reaver), Danimoth (Arbiter) 14. Queen, Alan Schezar (Goliath), Fenix (Zealot) 15. Ultralisk, Tom Kazansky (Wraith), Fenix (Goon) 16. Battlecruiser, Magellan (Vessel) and all zerg heroes but Infested Kerrigan 17. Valkyrie, Infested Kerrigan, Tassadar (HT) 18. Jim Raynor (Marine and Vulture), Tassadar/Zeratul (Archon), Ganthritor (Carrier) 19. Sarah Kerrigan, Samir Duran (ghosts) 20. Edmund Duke (Tank) 21. Hyperion (BC) 22. Norad II (BC) 23. Alexei Stukov (Ghost)

Cool, stukov is the supreme commander lol

Totally random, but interesting, like you said.
and weird that Alexei Stukov is the #1 in all of SC.
|
When I first saw this thread I thought you were going to compile what should be given priority on the battlefield.
|
I was always interested in the unit rankings from all three races. Thanks for sharing.

Valkyrie is the highest-ranked non-hero unit?? Interesting.
Cool trivia!

This clearly shows drones > SCVs > probes! Why are valks so high up? o_O

I'm fairly sure someone already did this in another thread somewhere

So the DT is the highest non hero Protoss unit, Interesting
actually DT and valk make sense since they got added in during BW.

(blizzard probaly just entered some kind-of-random value for the valk, they were quite lazy when they made bw, for example the bw tilesets have properties (not very obvious unless you are into mapping) that show how lazy they were)

Stukov of mother Russia! fuck yeah!

Medic being below Firebat doesnt make any sense..especially since the Terran units usually go by rank pretty well (tanks being higher than vultures and what have you)
|
protoss is looking pretty unimportant :o
reaver = zergling T.T
|
lol i love this random shit, like the egg hatching thread.
there's so much goofy stuff in SC, kineticaaaa
|
I like how the Firebat hero's name is Gui Montag ahahaha
Nice reference to Fahrenheit 451 ;D
|
|
ZErgling= reaver hard to understand. besides the fact that the reaver is completely a robot.

O_O That's cool, but I wonder why the hierarchy is like it is.
|
Haha wonderfull findings! Valkyrie and ofcourse Alexei strange findings. You would expect highest in tech the highest in rank too.
|
Technically the game's list is 0-based, but this is still a nice reference material.
Not that it matters, but buildings and critters have a rank of 0, zerg eggs have a rank of 1, mutalisk cocoons have a rank of 2, and everything else (powerups, unused entries, scanner sweep, etc) all have a rank of 0 as well. (Add 1 to those values to match up with the list)
|
amazing info. I never thought of this before. Go Alexei!
|
Interesting, if not random. Cool!

yeah, you got a huge ass reaver with scarabs that can destroy anything in its path and a stupid zergling is ='ed to it in rank O_O

I always thought that it was the units with the most abilities that were given the higher ranks. Guess not XD

Booo i clicked here expecting to see some monkeys. Thread didnt deliver.

I always loved Stukov.
Thanks for the research, very odd but interesting ^_^v

All hail Alexi Stukov, supreme ruler!
I've been wondering about how this system works. Thanks for the work Nuclear.

First mission of the undead campaign, there's two villagers with the names from the main characters of fight club, and they're shown punching each other iirc.

The wraith hero "Tom Kazansky" is susposed to be a reference to "Iceman" (played by Val Kilmer) in Top Gun.
Val Kilmer's character in Top Gun is Tom "Iceman" Kazanski.

Also most of the WC3 cheats + SC cheats are famous quotes from famous movies

Valk came with BW while BC came out with the original. Only makes sense.

Thanks for the research, the cross-race rankings always got me curious.. I really thought that arbiters out-ranked carriers but maybe I'm remembering improperly.

nice experiment thanks for the effort and time very interesting facts

What happens if you have a Devourer and a Defiler in the same group? Or any other situation of equal ranked units...
|
Well, in those cases you are required to read the OP again
|
I'm glad, that you are interersted in this research. I am also a a fan of such non-standard, interesting things about the game.
Terran ranks are easy - each unit's rank is written below the unit's name (except Vessels - they need to be locked ot statissed, to remove the "detector" label). The only non-terran unit with rank (or maybe this is not rank) is Ganthritor (hero Carrier) with "rank" Tassadar.
On July 31 2009 17:31 f10esqftw wrote: What happens if you have a Devourer and a Defiler in the same group? Or any other situation of equal ranked units...
It depends of the selection order. If you select devourer and then shift+click a defiler or other unit with the same (or lower) rank, you will see the devourer's picture. If defiler is first -> you will see the defiler. If you drag a rectangle over equal-ranked units, every unit has a chance to be first. When more equal-ranked units are selected, you see the picture/hear the voice of the top left unit in the status bar ( the place between the mini map and the unit's picture, where the unit's drawings (green drawing on blue background) are) Now i see, that i forgot 2 units - cocoon (it's equal to marine and observer) and lurker egg. (equal to scv and interceptor).
