well in theory you should only GG when you actually HAD a good game. otherwise it should be something like "thanks for the game". but thats too long to type

I agree that it is considered good manners to type "gg" everytime you beat your opponent and he types it first. Even if he left the game right after. "gg" means stop whatever you're doing at the moment and type back. Don't ever type "gg" before your opponent does when you're beating him.
If you lose, always type "gg" and immediately leave the game. I've been in the situation before where my opponent loses the game and types "gg" but stays in it for another 5 minutes. That is plain BM right there.
Sure, we always have our days where we're all just pissed off and become BM. A couple times have I lifted off my building and hid them because I got really pissed, and left the game without saying "gg" and typing "gg" before my opponent when I'm raping him. But that's just gay.

why is this hypothetical player leaving the game without a gg and still getting pissed because he thinks it's bm to have it said to him?
how is it any worse than not gging at all?

But isn't "gg" meant to loser to type first? Then why winner whispers it, being arrogant, bad mannered? For me 90% of games are that nobody types anything, so not typing 'gg' is standard.

gg = i lose, you win. why is that so complicated?

yeah, sure. if he doesn't say gg and you don't say anything then doesn't matter. if whispering gg is mocking anything it's mocking that the player left without a gg, not their actual gameplay, and then the player getting whispered to can't really complain because he left without a gg to begin with. but the standard is that you say gg to concede the game, and then you leave. if neither player says gg then fine, but saying it after the game is over (someone has left the game, not an offensive gg during the game) is just telling the player you thought it was a good game. i dont know why people would get offended by that

why the hell do you need to whisper gg to someone, wtf are you expecting them to say gg back? you either get ignored or get a "fuck off" on my journey to D+ I got 2 people who said gg before leaving. If I lose to something really gay I just gg and leave as fast as I can, it makes me feel better later that I wasnt bm. the people who offensive gg are pretty gay, I just hide some pylons around the map and alt tab. seriously theres no reason to say that. If someones not leaving I make some dark archons or scouts :/ just to have some fun myself
|
I say 'gg' almost always, except after losing a few games in a row to cheese strats and I'm really frustrated (which rarely happens). I usually say gg back after I win, if my opponent hasn't left yet.
|
It's all etiquette. StarCraft is a gentleman's game and should remain that way. Be polite to your opponents, play your best, and don't get so stuck up you think some games aren't good. I would only not say gg if my opponent were hiding pylons or otherwise being a huge dumbass. Good isn't some superlative word where I have to have microed perfectly and not missed any of my timings... It's "congratulations, you beat me" and "thank you, you played well too" which you say even if they didn't because it's just manners You respect that they tried. When you lose you respect that they played better than you (even if it was 'cheese' you still lost the meta-game).
In short: If you say gg, everyone feels good. Some people might not be used to BW etiquette, so don't get mad at people on iCCup who don't gg.
|
Some people remember the hotkeys to leaving a game, f10, s and s again I think. (surrender and then you confirm) and it happens so fast that the opponent has time to type it back. I kinda feel gosu when I type it real quick :D

it's not a big deal, but i just found it weird. is it supposed to mean that it wasnt a good game? =/
of course when i win, people usually just leave...
iono, it bothers me. Its because most people are too focused on playing to respond very quickly. So usually you probably leave before they say gg.

All SC players should learn Japanese budo and "begin and end with a bow" spirits.

the simple rule to follow is...
always type GG before leaving a game! (unless you are an obs.. then who cares)

Wow, thats so wierd. I've never thought about it from my opponents perspective... I guess thats what I get for never losing. The burdens of being gosu I guess...

Telling someone that just lost "well played" is soo bm holy shit First of all, if they're too stuck up to say gg they deserve to feel worse. If they just forgot then most people will say 'gg' back because they just forgot and even feel a bit guilty. But second... How is acknowledging the loser as a worthy adversary BM? Unreal. I guess people shouldn't shake hands after sporting events either eh? What do you think they're telling each other while they shake hands? Real sportsman can respect each other and admire each other's skill outside the game. If you're offended by someone saying gg to you, you're basically telling them that they didn't deserve to win and that you don't agree it was a good game. That's just being a sore loser.
What if two friends play a bunch of games and one wins more than the other... Is it bm for him to say "ggs" when he leaves? Why is it different if it isn't?
I mean... I guess if the game wasn't even close, it would sound like sarcasm.. But when you genuinely think they played well and luck was just on your side at some critical moments. I don't know. I think anyone who reacts badly to that is just a sore loser... It's not like someone is dancing around you doing crotch thrusts. They're just thanking you for your time
