+ Show Spoiler +Some Spanish Starcraft gamers are working on a pretty cool mod, basically placing Starcraft 2 units into Starcraft to be exact. So to those of you guys that can't wait, try out their mod  Hopefully some of you guys can speak enough Spanish to help these guys with with any bugs you find, or recommendations.
It looks pretty funny, and I'm sure if beta is pushed back to late summer, it'll make for an interesting game! It needs 1.15.1 to work though so just be wary

Saw this on digg just a few minutes ago, and yeah it looks pretty nifty. I wonder how they implement things like the nighthawk's new missile and the autoturret and the queen.

The nighthawk's Missile is a tough one I'd imagine. They have to design one missile for ATA and another one for ATS since Starcraft doesn't have any one object that can move like that. I wonder if they could make a scarab shoot from ATA.

I'm sure in a days time, some team is going to create a UMS map with the original stats of SC.

lol that's pretty cool.
I think the biggest reason why 3D games tend to be more difficult to spectate is because of all the effects filters they add in...like light rays and dust and fog and all that shit. CnC3 was the first RTS I saw that really did that heavily...and while it looked awesome for the player, it was hard to follow for anyone else.
That's why WC3 is still not bad. It's still just very straightforward...units and buildings and terrain on screen.
The colors in SC2, though, are so bled out...and the lighting effects kill distinguishability.

had a go at the mod, after some serious showmethemoney and operationcwal, here are some notes: (not that im any good at balancing or anything) Terran - bug: thor couldnt hit air @_@ - ghosts are really really strong - bug: starport cant put down extension - bug: factory cant put down extension - hellions shoot lazers! - Because of bugs i couldnt try some units
Toss - bug: game crash when dark archons try to cast maelstrom @_@ - mothership = arbiter in a costume - carriers look real fancy =D - immortals have machine guns @_@, and take forever to kill - bug: lol "spawn more overlords", what happend to my additional pylons? -

Yeah that's why I don't fret about the possibility of SC2 sucking. I know worst case scenario it's just Brood War rereleased.

They've already stated all the original SC units will be in the campaign editor.

No idea. Must be counted as some sort of hacking, but I didn't try with AH on.

I tried it out, all three races, and basically very little besides the graphics is done so far. Kinda of a let down, but then I didn't really see the point of the mod to begin with, as the beta must be right around the corner by now.
Rather, a mod for SC2 which turns it into SC1 might be interesting :p

Hehe, reminds me of the WC mod (for SC) that was released shortly before Blizz released WC3 - and was then taken down by Blizz legal.

It would be much easier to make a WC3 UMS then a SC mod.
A lot of the stuff in SC2 would be possible with the WC3 editor.

As much as I like the idea of playing starcraft from within starcraft 2, I don't think it will be possible.
Too much engine details have changed.. Units staying in formation when they move instead of streaming, stuff like reaver scarabs bugging out, etc.
It'll just be very different, and one race will probably prove to be inferior as a result. It will probably be very fun in spite of that though.

The idea of reaver scarabs being 100% accurate strikes fear in the heart of every terran :<

wow i love the remade buildings.... any way i can play with them normally? like all the same units and regular starcraft on iccup except that I see these buildings instead of the original ones? Maybe keep the cursor as well?

the angles are off, worse than a protoss's nexus, and the assets are pretty blurry. lol, it was an interesting concept, the screenshots kinda make me woozy... those SCV's sitting at the correct angle, while the buildings and units around them kinda look like they are tilted up on their corners.
i will be looking forward to SC2 to SC1 conversions, i hope Blizzard includes that with the release.
