I'm doing a project proposal due tomorrow.. It's going to be on e-sport culture, if someone could help me out with any links to where I can find such information. Or if anyone has any ideas to help me with my project, please feel free to contribute.

Aside from the salaries. I am looking for good sources, and information on the topic. (I'll have a large section on Korean e-sports).

Credible academic sources prefered, although given the lack of such information, websites and articles can work too

Many Thanks!

In my opinion, the tricky part about progamer salaries is the fact that they are provided a living space (team house). Simple necessary things that most people have to pay for, progamers are provided for by their team. If you look at the weemee article, it says most pros make around 10k, but 10k is a lot if its just for "extra" fun things.

But you also have to take into account that you can't be a progamer for your whole life and only the better known progamers can have a career as caster or coach.

432 pro StarCraft players or 432 progamers in general? There are other games besides SC, like Kart Rider, and I guess there are (many?) others too, but I don`t know what further games are played professional.

SKT1 bankrolls a lot of players who don't do a lot of winning. In fact, none of the most winning players this year or last year were on that list.

But with the free agency thing going around, the salaries are probably going to drastically increase.

yes, although to be a progamer you don't need an education necessarily, just dedication to the game. The barrier to entry is really quite low

I remember reading somewhere that a lot of progamers are recruited by day-traders because of their quick hand-eye reflexes and apm on computers. Also a lot seem to be doing well at poker lately.

Barrier to entry quite low? WHAT?

# of lawyers in the world? Millions. Your chances of becoming a lawyer if you are absolutely dedicated to it are probably over 50%.

# of progamers in the world? Hundreds. There are loads of gamers all over the world that play for 6 hours a day, some taking it very seriously and striving to become the best, but only the top 0.01% will ever succeed.

Edit: But if you meant in terms of startup costs I see your point. $20 for broodwar, $70 for a good mouse vs $50 000 for tuition and $5000 for books.

the barrier of entry to almost any sport/esport is pretty low. To be a lawyer or a doctor takes a license, which means school+passing a test at the very minimum, which indicates a higher barrier to entry, regardless of how many doctors or lawyers there are.

Who would pay $70 for a good mouse? You can get a logitech mini optical for $20.
