Poll: Should ggplay and stork EVER be allowed to play each other again? (Vote): Yes, the GAME was fucking hilarious (Vote): No, my eyes hurt (Vote): W.T.F.?
Once there was a kid named Stork, he wanted to become the greatest second rated starcraft player EVER. And he did by beating out YellOw for the most silvers. Stork had big square glasses.
Then there was GGPlay, he set out to become the player with even dorkier glasses than stork. And he did. He also somehow won an OSL title.
Anyhow, on their 80th birthday, the two old farts decided to duke it out in manly fashion (refer to short game recap)
Stork started at bottom left and ggplay top right. Stork did his usual FE cannon corsairs into reavers and ggplay went 12 hatch, or was it 11 hatch... anyways as it turns out it didn't matter!
Stork dominated by making 100000000000 corsairs from 3 stargates and reavers out of 2 robo... or so it seemed. at some point he had 2 full control groups of cors and 4 shuttles loaded with reavers. BUT knowing stork, he somehow managed to fuck it up. oh and GGplay made some hydras
you'd think a zerg player is completely fucked if this happens...
but wait, its stork we are talking about! hydras > stork reavers
Next its GGplay's turn at Failure.
he loads for SEVERAL doom drops (even a double drop at one point) only to get completely owned by cannons and corsairs.
Many expansions and cannons later, stork figures out that even tho he has 1000000000000000000 corsairs, they do not attack ground. Meanwhile ggplay twiddles his thumbs and contains to make tier 1 units, and a few defilers. Stork decides to make the ULTIMATE ZVP unit, the carrier. Also he adds some dark archons to his massive army.
With an army like this, how can you fuck up so hard?
With his massive fleet, stork attempts to break ggplay's 12 expo and 5 many times and still fails. Although ggplay did use plague very nicely. this is SICK... literally...
GGplay finally gets a greater spire and makes devs. but stork was prepared for this ages ago...
Uh OH
stork decides to be cute and mind controls some of GGplay's defilers, then uses them to cover his own archons. then he had a really bright idea... what if... what if I MIND CONTROL A DRONE?? then i can BUILD zerg stuff.... like zerlings and.. shit..
stork figures that the only way to beat zerg is to BE zerg
After many cute plays later, stork decides that air is for wimps and a land army is the real way to go so he makes 1000000000000000 archons. Meanwhile ggplay lost 5oclock and is barely staying alive with his main, and the island 12oclock... but somehow still has 10000 minerals (seriously).
okay stork, this is becoming ludicrous
Stork was all but done, but runs into 1 problem... he does not know how to break a ramp with 20 archons, dark archons, and defilers. Oh did I mention now he has ARBITERS too?
ramp >> stork
screw the ramp bitches, im slowly moving all my units up with 1 shuttle
stork finally breaks into ggplay's main and rapes everything.
Archons + swarm is so imba it should be illegal.
ggplay is down to the island 12oclock, so everything thinks its over right? No... Stork fails time and time again at recalls and attempted recalls and fucking around that the KESPA refs had to intervene and ask stork wtf are you doing and why haven't you killed him yet
KILL ME... PLEASE!
KESPA ref allows stork to continue and fuck around a little longer.
it was really entertaining for about 20 minutes of the match
too bad there was like another 60 minutes or whatever that were boring as hell.
I enjoyed it though. I mean, come on, stork Mind-controlled a drone, and teched up to defiler so he could use it against ggplay. at one point acid spores, ensnare, and plague were all in play at one time - green, purple, and red shit everywhere, and carriers popping, mass scourges ... that stuff was awesome.
Yeah, why not, I've always been a fan of long games (even if they drag on loooooong) and this one was just extremely entertaining, even though I usually can't stand watching PvZ.
Now that I think about it, would Stork have succeeded at killing 12 had he not had defilers?

I doubt it, GGPlay looked like he had enough hydras. Maybe he could have brought more archons with a shuttle after, but i dunno if he still had one.

i don't see how stork is at fault here.
conclusion: ggplay should not be allowed to play zvp
what the hell was he supposed to do?
stork had reavers/cannons/storm at every expo
its not reasonable to expect a zerg to attack that
I LOVE games like this. The possibility that games can go that long, the possibility that forcing a draw is actually possible... I just love how it played out. Stamina is an important attribute in Pro-gaming. You have to be able maintain high level play for extended periods of time.
I was only half-watching, and the stream was laggy, so I guess I must be missing some of the things that people found so objectionable. Was it simply the length that annoyed people, or did either player play particularly poorly or annoyingly? Stork couldn't end the game sooner without risking a forced draw so I don't think he did anything wrong.

everything i was hoping would happen was happing in that game, im thinking to myself lets see some dweb, and he did., darc archon, would be real sweet if he mind controlled a defiler, then he did. then i was like steal a drone and he did.
im going to go out on a limb and say thats my favorite game EVER, the last 10-15 minutes were kinda slow, but the start, middle, late middle and ending were all sweet.
Stork never tech'ed to defilers... he had only a hatchery the entire time. The defilers he had were mind controlled. In other words, if Stork hadn't wasted resources on that hatchery/spawning pool/zerglings, he wouldn't have been in danger of a draw anyways.
The problem with that game is that there was enough epic fail on both sides that it lasted that long. Stork lost like 8 reavers in the beginning of the game, then GGplay evened that up with the TWO drops that didn't even land before being raped by corsairs. GGplay started to fall behind after repeatedly losing overlords. But, Stork had to even that up by getting 16 carriers mass scourged to death.
Yeah I don't think this game was epic because it's not like they were playing good and battling it out. I don't have anything against stork but I thought his play was very annoying in this game. Why in the world would he need 2+ control groups of corsairs and like 50 cannons? I think it's his fault the game went so long, as he could have run ggplay over with all the money he spent on defense.
Well the silly thing is that at some point stork was SO ahead it was silly. he was like 5 base protoss vs 4 base zerg. And GGPlay had shit for upgrades. All Stork needed was to switch to templar tech and walk over ggplay but he dragged it for ages.
It was fun nonetheless! And ggplay almost pulled a comeback somehow.
Stork is awesome.. sadly too many of us have been poisoned by FS's power ranks. Instead of realizing how much ggplay sucks, they'll blame stork instead because its supposedly cool thing to do.
GGplay lost the game totally, it was truly 1 hour 40 minutes worth of zerg genocide... he should have just gg'd early and spared himself the humiliation of being toyed around with.
i found it funny that stork made like one zealot and no dragoons. he must have been like, crap i forgot range again, might as well not make any dragoons.
Stork was 100% intent on dragging this game as long as possible. He had so many reavers, cannons, templars, sairs and carriers that GGPlay couldn't do anything else but defend the whole time and hope that he will win the resource war at the end. After both players took their half of the map it should have been obvious that it will become a very long game which ends in a battle for the last expansion. Anyway. GGPlay did a good job, he defended well which is not easy when a Protoss has 50% of the map plus one more expansion for quite some time and a huge sair/carrier/DA/reaver/storm army. Stork was a bit lame with his strategy... just way too much turtling. It was a funny game nonetheless. I liked the ending. And the mind-controlled defilers of course.
Audience member prepares for a long epic game We went to watch a movie, so did you win??
stork eventually won at the end but he couldve done much better. he could slowly mc all overlord, and use as storm transport., i thought that was deadly addtion to conquer 12.

everybody, get your rocks and rotten tomatoes ready.
I really enjoyed this game not for its quality but for its really wacky strategies. Mind controls were great, seeing corsairs having three status effects at once was hilarious (ensnare, plague and acid spores), and that final recall was pure gold. And as a final twist to this strange match it was none other than the defilers that brought GGPlay down. Long match but well worth it.
"stork figures that the only way to beat zerg is to BE zerg"

Lol at that game - that's the first PvZ where I can see all units from both races (except goons and scouts from P and ultralisks, lurkers, guardians and broodlings from Z) - that's awesome ! But - if I were GGPlay I won't show myself to the TV-cameras and fans (if there are still any ) for (probably) the rest of my life; - if I were Stork I probably will do the same as if I were GGPlay;
Although - great article with nice comments, ray1234.
yea, i'm pretty sure Stork wasn't intentionally playing like a pussy (but... you never know =p); he was just trying to humiliate GGplay and CJ for the heart thing that Much gave FBH.
HAHA, i just realized something: If his chest had been a cannon, he would have shot his heart upon it.
Moby Dick rofl! FUCK it all makes sense!!! hahahahaha captain ahab = grandpatoss etc etc etc
Anyone know what's the longest game in proscene history?
i think there was one that was 4 hours long, ended by hallucinated arbiters slowly killing turrets (not recall), didn't see the rep though, just read about it somewhere
stork should've researched hallucinate to help his recall

Holy crap that was a marathon and I even skipped 1/3 of it. Great game. I wouldn't fault either play too much. GGPlay's defense of Stork's Carrier/Corsair/Reaver/Templar/Archon army on multiple occasions was incredible. Stork's mind-control antics were the highlight.. I only wish Stork had enough resources to build a 400 supply Protoss/Zerg army
Apart from being funny I also thought this game was kinda interesting. On a map like this, with 2 island expansions and 2 very easy to defend expansions (middle left + right side), Protoss can "easily" play so defensively that the game will last >1 hour with the map being mined out as a result. This can get very hard for the Z, because it's tough to defend against the unit mix Stork used. Especially when there are mind controlled defilers too. Maybe not a good idea to design maps where expansions can be so easily defended. But then again, it was just this one game so far. I would like to see this strategy being used more by Protosses, at least on this map, and see how well the Zs do against that. Requires a lot of patience and endurance though.
Well I thought I would be in for a bore fest and I would end up skipping 50%, but actually it was really entertaining all the way through.
I can't believe their resources were so close at the end tho, Stork should never have allowed the top island to be recaptured and he wins a lot more easily.
How can you hate this game, he mindcontrolled a goddamn drone! I mean, okay if you're in the audience you have all right to hate the players but when you can skip the parts where stork sits at about 10 apm and randomly moves his army up and down cliffs with 1 shuttle you can just enjoy defiler vs defiler action in a pvz.
The map is huge. Unlike with a ground army, as soon as a reaver/sair army takes out an expansion, zerg rebuilds it right away. Protoss can split a ground army, but not an air army. Sairs have to stay to protect shuttle. Shuttles have to stay to protect reavers.
If stork stopped making corsairs, his 11 & 12 expansion will get dropped. Corsairs & reaver isn't enough to take out GGPlay's main base hence the carriers. I think Corsairs, reavers, & aribter with recall would had been better to take out the main that has 1-2 sunkens. It's really hard to take out a heavily defended zerg island without carriers. Even with carriers, there is defiler with hydra to defend.
IMO, Stork should had transition to a ground army after he had full control of 11.
I guess Stork forgot about existence of hallucination in the end. The comentators only about hallucination were talking there. But I liked the game, and I liked Stork. It seems that he finally learned how to bisu-build. His sairs were moving non-stop in the first half hour, and it paid off, stopping the drops and killing many overlords. Now, of course his mistake was to allow the zerg take 12 o clock. Otherwise he had win much easier. Probably just wanted to finish it faster, when decided to go cariers.
Actually, Stork could have taken 12 easily without zerg tech.
There was this one frame you can see a Dark Archon had spell range and managed to mind control a zergling that was in the 12 Oclock zone.
So the units on the edge were in spell range from the sides of the areas at 11 and 1. All Stork had to do was psionic storm the ground in front of the hydralisks every few seconds and eventually GG play would run out of hydralisks.

Long and drawn out does not mean epic.

QFT
Stork vs GGplay was one of the worst games I've ever seen. Stork had a huge advantage but decided to be a dick and drag the game in the longest and most boring way possible (and almost would've lost if GGplay wasn't a complete dumbass). Edit: tied, not lost.
You really can't compare this game to Gorush vs Ra, Savior vs Ra, and the Stork vs Gorush (Also maybe Reach vs Chojja, I didn't really like that game much though).

He hadn't lost, there was the very real possibility of Stork screwing up and there being a draw. You'll have to admit that it was quite close in the end. GGPlay couldn't win any more of course.
I was laughing all the time. ray1234 you are my hero.

remmeber if ggplay doesnt gg and stork looses drop/recall capabilities.. its a draw and it goes to ace match .. so it was pretty important that ggplay doesnt gg
I watched the whole game because I hate myself, lol.
Seeing the KeSpa refs pause the game to ask Stork 'WTF are you going to be able to finish him off or not?' is a defining moment in proleague history, to be sure
A few questions: - Is this the longest pro game ever? - Will KeSpa institute a time limit after this game? - If it ended in a draw, which team gets the point?? - What on earth could GGPlay have done after Stork fully locked down 11? Stork's sair/reaver play up to that point was great, but at that point he basically entered obnoxious turtle mode and there really was not anything GGPlay could have done other than what he did do (hope to win in the long haul.. - WHY?!!!
I think that they have to replay the game if it's a draw. When Stork locked down 11 he'd pretty much already won, GGPlay couldn't do anything more except not have tried to attack and hope to win in the long haul like you said. If Stork made a ground army instead of a million cannons and about 30 more corsairs than necessary he would have steamrolled GGPlay at that point. At the end he could've just turtled hard on the island instead of spending his last minerals on those sunkens in his main.

lol ggplay was way behind in the midgame but despite that showed excellent defense vs storks carrier/sair shit over and over actually.
The gayness in that was simply stork not knowing how to play PvZ. He outmined ggplay by like 10% and barely managed to win that lol.. and he made at least 100 cannons that game.
still it was a cute game. i coulda done without most of the last 45 minutes of it though but it was a clever way for stork to definitively win the game while ggplay was looking to make it a draw for a regame it looked like o_O
ggplay also shoulda been check-dropping storks main at least a few times. he never did make as many cannons there and its always a hindrance for P to lose their production buildings.

Do you have numbers to prove it? I'm pretty sure GGplay had more resource nodes than stork did in that game, since he managed to muscle 12'oclock from stork. If GGplay didn't have more, they were at least equal.
