Mac mouse issues solution

I've finally found a solution to the mouse response issues in Brood War on Mac I've been having ever since Blizzard released the first Mac PTR build a few years back. Similar to the video below, my mouse would hang/get stuck/stop responding which made this game incredibly frustrating to play.

After going through a few cheap Logitech mice, and digging through a bunch of closed blizzard forum threads, the issue appears to be related to the polling rate of the mouse. I bought a SteelSeries Rival 110 and lowered the polling rate in the SteelSeries Engine down to 125 Hz from 1000 Hz and the issue has disappeared.

I haven't seen this discussed much recently and figured I'd make this post for others who have been experiencing this issue.

TL;DR - get a mouse with a Mac software controller that you can manually lower the polling rate to 125 Hz.

I have a friend that plays on a Mac and he has the same issue, so hopefully this will work

Weird. Is this a problem only in StarCraft or in a lot of games for Mac?

Hope it works for your friend. Others in the blizzard forums were having mixed results, but it was tough to discern if they had a mouse they could lower the poll rate on or if this was in response to other solutions suggested. Also who knows what fixes patches since then have included. Fortunately, the Rival 110 was a relatively inexpensive fix to attempt to play my all time favourite game again.

Unsure. I recall having mouse acceleration issues on Mac back when I played SC2, but it was still playable and it never got this unresponsive. I feel this was just related to the default cursor feel on the Mac than a bug per se. And others have mentioned issues in WoW, but I've never played that.

This is good info.

I know a few people who have had this problem.

If there's some issue with how the game handles high frequency mouse input hopefully Blizzard will read this and rewrite whatever has to be rewritten.

srj...I'm really sorry to bump up such an old thread, but this issue was driving me nuts and it seems like lowering the poll rate to 125hz on my Razer Naga actually did the trick!! I actually didn't just have this issue in Starcraft, but system wide...drag & drop and multi-selection was super unreliable across all apps. I was getting really desperate because I am so used to the multi buttons on that mouse that I didn't just want to trade it for another one. Thanks to you, it seems like my sanity is restored...you're a LEGEND!

The issue is in pre-installed and almost unremovable mouse acceleration in OS X. This has helped me a lot in the past, but I'm no longer OS X user. Please also note that you have to repeat acceleration kill every time you boot the OS.
