Inside of a Supply Depot

The Supply Depot is a building constructed by Terran for the purpose of providing supply. Analogous to the Protoss Pylon or Zerg Overlord, it enables the construction of new units. Unlike Overlords and Pylons, however, the Supply Depot does not have any additional abilities. Supply Depots also do not build any units. Each Supply Depot raises the Terran's population limit by eight.

8 Marine Theory

In Theory, if the Supply Depot raises the supply by eight, it would mean that 8 Marines could theoretically fit comfortably inside the supply depot, without getting supply blocked, here is an image of a Marine.

Now lets take a look at Eight marines (What the Supply Depot provides in supply), beside a Supply Depot, it clearly doesn't scale, there is no way these 8 Marines could fit comfortably in this Supply Depot, let alone sleep, they would have to be packed in like a can of sardines.

8 SCV Theory

Now Finally, we examine the 8 SCV Theory, SCV's also cost 1 Supply like the Marine, but SCV's are well known to be a lot ' bigger boned ' than marines, partially due to their permanent mech slave suit, therefor leading us to the conclusion that there would also be no way to fit 8 SCV's in a Supply Depot comfortably, they would have an even more difficult time not bumping into each other than the Marines.

Conclusion :

After years of research and debates, it is clear to me as it should be to the rest of you, that with this conclusive clear cut and concise evidence, the SCV Hit Points must be nerfed to 55 Health, it doesn't make sense for it to be left at 60 HP, If you brought the SCV HP to 55 from 60, it would be the same as if the SCV Went on a Diet (Less HP = Less Bulky unit size), therefore the SCV's would be able to fit more comfortably inside of the Supply Depot, along side of their Marine colleagues.

Simple equation explaining SCV HP compared to Drone / Probe

A quality, well-researched and convincing argument. This is the high standard of post I have come to expect from TL's SC community.

scvs and marines are in mech suits, they just get out of the suits in order to sleep in their barracks. Alternatively, supply depots are like greenhouses full of vegetables and food, ammunition etc.

This is a pretty convincing statement, I would just love to see proof, and also I am pretty sure it is not wise to grow vegetables around ammunition, I think any botanist / florist would know this.

One question: cellars?

And: Why should the fact that a depot provides supplies for 8 marines/scvs or for another number of other units imply that any unit would go to sleep/rest in the supply depot anyway? and not somewhere else? Or not sleep at all, as life is short as a Terran on planets full of monsters.

I guess we'll never know for sure unless someone digs out that 1998 game-guide-book where, I assume, they explained how a depot works in every detail.

I think you've forgotten to ask yourself a key question here.

The question is: "Why is a supply depot unable to lift off from the ground?"

Now I know what you're thinking, surely with all those fans on it, it could simply helicopter over and provide cheap, effective scouting. This seems very reasonable. But, maybe those fans just aren't powerful enough, or SCVs complained about having to walk halfway across the map to grab themselves a snack and a juicebox out of their locker. But I think there's another reason, one that has been gaining a lot of ground in recent years, especially with the remaster.

Like an iceberg, a supply depot hides most of it behind the surface, providing a full assortment of facilities for the comfort and well being of its occupants. This is clearly demonstrated in the handy cross-section below.
Now with all these facilities, you might well ask "but these could support a massive number of SCVs, why only 8 per depot". SCVs are well known for liking their personal space. There's a reason they're in those suits, and it has nothing to do with collecting poisonous gas from a vent.

Right, let us also take into consideration the SC2 Supply Depot, how it can defy the laws of physics itself by raising / lowering itself, this brings in new perspectives...

What about battle cruiser? It has 6 supply, does it mean it's operated by six men?
And Goliath has two, but we can clearly see only one person inside.
So clearly there is something more in supply depot than just food or housing.

Maybe a second person is hidden lower down in the goliath, manning the guns. It's fairly plausible that with two different weapons sets, to avoid confusion you would need two people to man the goliath.

Tanks clearly have one person operating siege mode and the other operating tank mode

Vultures one dude to drive and shit mines and the other to make all the redneck sounds

seems accurate to me idk

wtf, that's not defying any laws of physics. Have you heard of an elevator shaft? The depot works like that in SC2 I think.

Marines live in the Barracks. SCVs live in the Command Center. The supply depot is just where they get their supplies from.

Why? You can make explosives out of fertilizer, the converse is true as well. Here's an example of how well that works:

However, the truth is a very different one of course. Haven't you ever wondered why a Supply Depot needs all those fans? Well, it's not for ventilation. In fact, they are knife blades to puree dead Zerg + Show Spoiler +
(and not only Zerg, but don't tell any one!)
into a human-consumable form. Think about it, it is much simpler this way. Why take the time to grow veggies when quicker food sources are conveniently lying around all the time?

I disagree Flash, I think this is one of the most important questions we need to answer as a community.

However all these logical answers only make me wonder aa to how one might calculate why Pylons have the sulply they do; is it the amount of Psi generated is equal to the number of Zealots or other rungs of Templar?.

The function of the supply depot is not to create space for units to sleep in it.
The supply depot create oxygen and fuel for Terran units!

True. If starcraft was realistic, you would have to build toilets for all your marines and medics, and supply depots would dispense edible food for them. There is no acknowledgement of bodily energy in sc:bw, or natural biology, and maintaining strong armys through techniques like these.
