Hi!
For many years now i have open ports.... MY router 6112 ports are opened so i would like to ask you how come im getting this stupid information? "Connection is routing via proxy server"
Can i do something to fix it? Should i close my ports? I completely dont understand why this stupid information shows even when im watching my own replays alone...
i dont want to have lag vs other ppl only because Blizzard F* up...
Do someone have same or similar problem or do you know how to fix it?
From the bottom of my heart thanks for your help ^^

Try opening 6112 through 6119, it means that despite you opening your ports it is still routing the connection to a proxy server, no you shouldn't close your ports, and Blizzard actually did well hosting games via a proxy server, something they should have done years ago...

I dont think that it works...

For starters calm down, and make sure your ports are opened. They need to be opened in both the router, and any firewall program that you have on your computer.
You can test it by downloading 1.16.1 from iccup website (100mb), and hosting a game and seeing if people can join.

I am calm... I always could make games even 3 days ago my friend joined my game and im always seeing this information... I added new rules to my firewall and router and nothing happens.. If anything changed then its because Blizzard did something from their side...
I will try some more things....

Same happened to me; I'd definitely had my 6112-6119 forwarded but after the patch I got the red text notification. However, I fixed it by just going into my router and deleting the settings and the reforwarding the ports. Sounds like you already tried that, and I don't know what else you should do.

Is the "Connection is routing via proxy server" message view-able to the host within a game lobby? I wanna check my connection but i'm not sure how to.

Me too despite I could host games on iCCup for years. Everything Blizz does is further and further ruining this game.
|
Outscar you are hilarious. They added a feature which allows donut heads like yourselves to host games without having your ports properly forwarded and you claim they are RUINING THE GAME? Give your fucking head a check! This feature is added with the intent of being purely beneficial and this is your response??
If you can truly host on iccup and are 100% positive you have the ports forwarded properly then take the 5 seconds it takes to head over to blizz forums and make a post in the bug report section!
If you want to test it on ICCup, i am awake right now and willing to go online with you. Shoot me a PM.
|
I can host games on Iccup, but I get the "Connection is routing via proxy server" message in battle net. So either this feature by Blizzard is bugged, or hosting games on iccup isn't truly a good method for checking if ports are open.
|
It should be, what I am thinking is maybe some of you are using the "upnp" feature that is part of MCA launcher? The idea of it is that it allows you to host without having the ports properly opened but I was always under the impression it didn't actually work.
Another possibility is that windows firewall or some other firewall is specifically blocking the remastered/1.19 version of starcraft, and not the 1.16 version.
Or maybe blizzard made an error in the new game, not impossible but it seems unlikely since it is working as intended for myself and the few others I have talked to about it on battle.net. If that is indeed the case then the people it is affecting need to submit bug reports to blizz so they can become aware and fix it asap.
|
Doesn’t this message merely mean that at least one of the players doesn’t have ports opened properly?
|
I believe it's only for host, correct me if I'm wrong on that one.
|
If you are hosting then there is a red message in the text chat, where it says that your connection is routed through a proxy server and hence it may end in latency difficulties. So no, if you host and get that message your ports are closed.
I, myself, thought I have my ports opened for the longest time til the patch, where I also suprisingly got the message that my connection is routing through a proxy server. So I accessed my router settings and saw that there was no forwarding rule for 6112-6119. It seemed like my router was resetted sometime.
@ OP: Did you check your LAN internal IP? Might be the problem. Mine was 192.168.0.66 for my PC... Never would I ever thought it is 66 at the end. You can check it (on windows OS) by searching for "cmd" (just press enter as soon as you type it into cortana) -> type in "ipconfig /all" then search for "IPv4 adress" and there should be an IP with something like 192.168.0.X. On most routers your PC is 2 (while the router is 1), but you need to check back to properly forward your ports in your router. Might be your solution.
After I opened up my ports again, the red message disappeared when I hosted a game. So definitly helped a lot opening the ports.

Yes I have this option checked, it is enabled by default, maybe I can host only because of that. But I recall some of my friends using mca launcher too and they couldn't host games, so I am very confused now.
@Edit: I entered iccup using Iccup launcher instead of Mcalauncher, and I could host games as well. So I can host games regardless of UPnP function of mca launcher, but I still get this red message on battle net.
@Edit2: I forwarded ports on my router now and I don't get this message anymore. However I could somehow host games on Iccup before without any problems and without forwarding ports at all. So it looks like hosting games on iccup isn't a proper method to test your ports.
|
Hmm interesting, I don't know why that would be. Glad you got it figured out though.

|
Ah that would make sense then. It would potentially explain why op and outscar can host iccup but not remastered/1.20 as well.
|
So firstly thanks for your "brainstorm" mates It helped me think... So i forwarded everything yet again and it seems i had to do some shenanigans but it seems i no longer have this Godawful red txt when i make replay to watch for myself. I still get it when i want to join melee games with ppl who have this routing box near the game name (i still didnt buy Remaster and im playing on Korean server)...
Is it still me or its now theirs fault? ^^
I want to add that with my old setting i didnt get this red txt when i entered games where there was no routing box added to the game name... With the old setting i was seeing red txt when i was making the game myself... Seriously strange thing...
|
The text will only show, as far as I know, when the host doesn't have the ports open. So when you were hosting and you saw the text, that's because your ports weren't properly opened for whatever reason. When you see it joining a game, that means that the host doesn't have their ports opened. So it's them now.

Look, I don't fucking really care if they made to host games without having ports forwarded or not for ppl who didn't forward it. All I know my ports are forwarded well and don't try to teach me how you do it, I've gone through all hells of it and made it work on iCCup/Fish. It worked well before, now not working. What's my benefit when I'm gonna get lag vs. everyone despit my ports open?
And before calling me "donut head" and "give your head check" think with your own fucked up "donut" head - what works for you doesn't mean for everyone. You fucking telling me to head to blizz forums? YOU? TELLING ME? I've been there since April. So please fucking shut up. You don't decide if I'm allowed to criticize or not.
|
You can criticize when it's valid and in the correct place. Spewing shit about blizzard while not taking responsibility for your own mistakes is not valid nor is this the correct place. You do not have your ports opened properly and so you see this message. End of story.
And like I said, if you truly do have your ports opened correctly, which many people in this thread thought but it turned out they weren't. Then make a post to the bug forums like I suggested and do something to remedy the situation, instead of doing what you are doing. Which is whining like a little bitch.
|
I'm not sure what more to do about port forwarding. I've modified my router's settings so I have: - DMZ enabled for my computer - Port-forwarding for 6112-6119
Anti-virus was temporarily disabled. I've added exceptions to Windows Firewall to allow port range.
What else does Blizzard need? I've got Computer Science degree and I can't figure it out.
|
It looks like you are "translating" to ports. I've never seen that but a quick google search makes it sound like you are redirecting ports 6112-6119 to the exact same ports instead of opening them.
Try leaving the "translate to" part blank perhaps? Or maybe delete that entry entirely and rely on the DMZ set to your computer?
|
It didn't work unfortunately. Router doesn't let me leave those fields blank. I suppose I'll have to google a bit more. Maybe it's my ISP's fault?
![[image loading]](https://i.imgur.com/1h4D8kE.png)
|
Or at least something strange about the router. Removing the starcraft:broodwar entry entirely and using the DMZ doesn't work?
|
Or you could I suppose, put like port 80 or a generally open port into the "translate to" spot and see if maybe that works. I wouldn't suggest it though I don't know if that would work. Might be worth a shot though.
Also it doesn't say in that screenshot that it's forwarding for any specific IP which is strange. Any time I've ever forwarded ports has needed the internal IP of the computer you are using. Maybe this router is different and it does the range for every single computer on the network but that seems weird to me.
|
Nope, DMZ alone didn't work. That's why I attempted to configure port forwarding. Oh well, I'll try port 80 tomorrow. It's time to sleep in Europe. Thanks for help!
|
What router are you using?
|
|
Alright so it looks like you had the port part set up correctly, but theres a second part you need to do. Once you have the application rule set up you need to go back and apply that to the device you are currently using. Did you do that step?
It should look like this: but with game/application as starcraft:bw and device as the current computer you are on.
This page has more details if you need https://portforward.com/bt/home-hub-5/
|
I was actually looking on Google if other people with this router have that problem. One of the answers was to: 1) Reset router because it might be upset after previous settings (lol). 2) Disable UPnP. 3) Add rules again.
I only did 2) and kept my DMZ setting. That seems to be working now. Thanks.
|
|
Should I really need to enable DMZ or not? It has a feild DMZ Host IP: " ". Should I post my IP there?
|
|
So firstly i want to say that i did everything as it was said in the guide to open ports to my router years ago and it worked until Blizzard stepped in.
Secondly now that i did it again (mainly deleted all the rules that i made years ago and did it again and it helped) i no longer have red text when i make replay or a game but now almost all koreans whenever see me entering the game immediately ban me.....These few who wanted to play had lag with me (bigger than it was when i had my old rules set up and maybe its a coincidence) so my life became even harder now and i regret trying to "Open my already opened ports"... If i opened them in some wrong way then it seems the guide that i had was bad but for some reason until now it all worked perfectly....I was using ( in time o 1.16.1 patch) wLauncher not McaLauncher tho both are based on wlauncher.... Blizzard cant do no wrong i know ^^
So i and my friend tested our settings in various ways.. We both had opened ports previously and only i opened them again... My friend has the same situation.. After entering a game of a host who has mark of a proxy server near a game name he see the red txt and i to. When my friend enter a game of someone who has properly opened ports then he dont see anyting... When he entered my game or replay we didnt see anything but when i entered his game we saw a red txt...
At the end it seems i did manage to open my ports.... Still seems like a bad deal...
And im still not sure if they are opened if koreans seem to recognize me as a lager ( tho not all have lag with me but it seems to be a bigger amount than before) now, cuz why wouldnt they play now that i should have even less lag than before...

When your friend hosts what happens?

When he makes a game and i enter we both see the txt but when i do this now after i opened my ports we dont see anything so it seems i did it right where he didnt do anything... I will make more tests and maybe ill try something more but i just wanted to say that no matter what there wasnt a problem until now... In other words maybe Blizzard did something good for all the ppl who couldnt make games but somehow it worked in a wrong way in case of many other ppl...

1) Rewrote rules and reopened ports 2) Allowed all connnections to SC:R in my firewall 3) Disabled UPnP 4) Enabled DMZ 5) Turned off and on my router
= works
4) Disabled DMZ
= not working
So problem was with DMZ. I stand corrected. Sorry for bitching. Hope this helps for others too.
By the way: 4) Enabled DMZ 4) Enabled UPnP = works too

Basically we both did the opening years ago but after this patch its like they "closed" themselves even tho on our routers it clearly saying that we have ports opened... Only i opened the ports again he didnt care...

Mca changes something in registry right? Any clue which path is it? Curios and wanna insure myself if I'll ever logon to iCCup with launcher so I can revert if it messes my settings.

It seems DMZ isn't needed. I rely on port forwarding now. UPnP has to be disabled in my case or its security settings at least.

Am able to host now without proxy server was easy to set up, the games are MUCH better without the proxy server for me, awesome.

Yea, I actually lag a lot more vs Koreans now as well... I guess if both peoples ports aren't open we are still connecting to the Proxy server, and potentially if one of us don't have the ports open it would cause more of an IP Conflict than help? I'm not sure, I do a lot of tech support / networking work with my job, but this is a little out of my league I guess.... hopefully the networking diagnostic tool will be released soon.

ive always just given up trying to port forward. i never understand how to do it lol. Arris SB6183 router for anyone who is familiar with it.
|
thats a modem is there a router attached to it?
|
normally you need to connect to your router's interface by typing its lan IP in the address bar of browser, not particularly intuitive eh^^ then on its interface somewhere you have the port forward config, different depending on router..
