Is it a presupposition that equal amount of players per race entered the pool in the first place? Has anybody counted the racial distribution on each stage of the two leagues? That is the T-Z-P ratio from before the offline prelims up to the winner of a league. Would be interesting I think.
Total Player Pool Offline Prelims + 16 (7T/4Z/5P, 4 Seeded from MSL + 12 Qualified from previous Survivor League) + 8 (3T/4Z/1P Seeded in Survivor Tournament from previous Survivor League)
Humm, this is indeed interesting. It shows that T is actually the predominant choice nowadays among Korean progamers and progamer-wannabes. It also shows that relatively, more P than T have qualified from the PSL. It also shows that, regardless of their relatively numerous initial presence, Z are the losers this season in terms of qualification.
Of course given the slight (and standard) assumption of T>Z>P>T this makes sense.
More, and also more detailed stats could reveal other interesting things, but for now, thanks SonuvBob, nice job!

Guess not.
I can do that easy.
Total Player Pool Asian (Korean) 224 99.11% Asian (Chinese) 1 .44% White (Polish) 1 .44%
PSL Asian (Korean) 200 99.01% Asian (Chinese) 1 .48% White (Polish) 1 .48%
Qualified Asian (Korean) 28 100%
ODT Asian (Korean) 48 100%
Qualified Asian (Korean) 12 100%
OSL Asian (Korean) 16 100%
Interesting statistics.
There's something about those stats that makes me think Koreans are very good at StarCraft, but I can't quite put my finger on it... Needs more analysis...
ouch, poor zergs. pvz/zvp and tvz/zvt are the best to watch (better than pvt/tvp and the mirrors imo)... starcraft would be nowhere near as good without the zerg race.
and just last year zerg was like raping it up, sheesh.
one other thing to consider though is that people choose the race they have the most success with, so the initial percentages for the player base aren't really objective either... the fact that there's 43% terrans could mean that terran is slightly imba. i don't really have a point to that other than that some conclusions are hard to draw.
For example, does the fact that more Terrans make up the initial pool mean that on balanced maps, that same percentage of Terrans should qualify? Or, should a 1/3rd split of the races entail balance when we're talking about the cream of the crop of each race that manages to qualify?

Terran is the hardest race to master, and easiest to learn. The obvious choice for a pro, because if you have what it takes this race won't let you down on top-level play, in certain areas where Zerg and Toss would just seem limited. Terran can get the most out of micro, but it's very hard. Imba you say? not at all, it's actually hardest with Terran, but in consequence, it has the most potential. Tosses and Zergs are just deluding themselves. Anyways, other statistics (I've saw once on Tl.net), the distribution of races (on this site) is somewhat like : toss 60%, terran and zerg 20% each. Toss looks cool, but besides it's for the masses, for the robots, the sheep, the bricks in the wall, and it's usually so fucking easy to macro(at least the part of consuming minerals by producing units @ Gateways).
How dare any say "gay"? Traitors!!! do you forget where your loyalties stand? DO YOU FORGET who you Emperor is? That's right, its BOXER, A FUCKING TERRAN, AND A FUCKING GOOD TERRAN.
races are equall, have you ever considered it feels more 'normal' for newbies to pick up Terran just because the newbies themselves are actually humans? And newbies just like I've mentioned, in Korea sometimes become pro :0
EDIT: all of this still doesn't explain why the heck StarLeagues come with such Terran advantaging maps... perhaps the administration just wants another "boxer", to keep the masses highly entertained while revitalizing the whole industry; perhaps OGN and MBC presidents/ruling committees/whatever just don't believe in a future protoss or zerg Boxer. Just my two cents
sorry to post this off topic but. what is up with the next osl, when does that start? who is in it and all that? I see the GOM TV 2 MSL thread but nothing of the OSL yet.

*looks at his race icon* that could explain terran too (:
LOL. That wouldn't happen to be from one of the World of Roguecraft Videos, would it?
Terran is the hardest race to master, and easiest to learn. i've always believe that, simply because the terrans were described as "middle of the road", and a safe race, as well as being the first race you'll test out in starcraft (campaign); that it is considered the easiest to learn. hardest race to master? i think it mostly depends on the person -.- your calling terran hardest to master because maybe it was for you and some people, and that strong players played it (i see you mentioned boxer a bit)
in certain areas where Zerg and Toss would just seem limited. lol ZvT savior SWARM IMBA
i play terran because someone told me to, and i find the others boring go fig
I think map pool used in this pre-season (and used previous season) made zerg not be able to beat terran. Especially, Reverse Temple, Hitchhiker and Longinus II were too difficult for zerg.
Um, those %ages are nice, but more relevant I feel is %age of original race that qualified.
So if you start with 24 Terrans and 6 of them qualify, then 25% of the Terrans qualified. That's a vital statistic in determining whether or not maps are balanced
