you could always turn off the skins

Exactly its toggle-able for a reason and tons of casual players would be inclined to be more involved in the scene it would grow the Brood War scene significantly.

Well if we were reasonable and let those skins were only visible for the player with the skin. Now lets say a new skin were released, which during testing seemed fine, but it was later discovered after release that it e.g. made it slightly easier to select an irradiated muta. Now blizzard would be forced to remove the skin (and refund everyone who bought it) or go through a phase of disabling it, spending money, time, and company resources to redesigning the skin. Neither would be optimal for the player who bought it nor blizzard.
Skins matter in starcraft bw when it comes to balance. Either you are fine with a scenario like that where they release a slightly broken skin or you expect blizzard to be flawless.

The problem is that nearly every multiplayer game with cosmetics doesn't have an option to toggle them off. The debate has raged across multiple games, but the status quo has not been changed.

Please not. I already don't like the new skins in starcraft 2. It is too disturbing for me.
|
If we get an option to disable the skins I would be 100% in favor of this.

if and only if they could be turned off

if they can't be turned off then it literally kills the game. when SC2 added skins and the zergling skin had MASSIVE wings that made 1 ling cover 6 others, i quit since i had to look at health bars instead of units to count them. it was absolutely absurd..
dota 2/league/csgo are fine since you can generally tell and the skins don't interfere.. which is strange given that they have like 10000x more skins than sc2, yet sc2 picked the one skin that completely fucked with zergling visibility.. there HAS to be an option to turn it off...

I don't mind as long as I can toggle it off, who knows, some skin/skin packs could look great. The shown "aiur nexus" "char hive" and "korhal CC" look quite good to me. Still wonder how they will work, if they just replace all your nexus/hive/CCs, I guess not though, that should look nice^^
definitely want option to turn it off in case smtg doesn't look good or detracts

Keep the cosmetics out! It sucks
|
The only cosmetic I would tolerate is remasterized radio free zerg!
edit : OMG I JUST NOTICED RADIO FREE ZERG ISN'T WORKING ANYMORE!!!! THIEF!!!

They already have these for preorder and given how much blizzard pushes skins I doubt they will be the last.
|
^these looks ugly af. Maybe i'm getting old, but I never understood this massive interest in skins the past couple of years...

They already got an option to turn off the Town Hall skins in the patch 1.19 PTR.

edit also why in the world would a "char hive" look molten? even on char it wouldn't look like that unless it was on top of an active volcano that somehow wasn't covered by creep... they should have done an aiur hive, with like a hive overgrowing a big tree or something.. same with the CC and nexus. like you know how in warcraft 2 they had different building sprites depending on what tileset you're playing on? THAT'S what they should do, it was one of my favorite parts of warcraft 2:

Why every game has to have "skins" nowadays?

cause it made the folks over at rito games rich af

The vast majority of these skins are rubbish with zero artistic integrity. What sense does a Char Hive make on a space platform? None of course, but it will make a few bucks off the people who want to "bling" their account.
That's the problem with these skins. Artistic vision and cohesiveness to the original game are lost to gimmicks and second rate jokes designed to make a few bucks.
By their very nature they're all designed to be eye catchy which also completely screws up the visual harmony of the game.
I really hope Blizzard give us the option to turn this filth off. Even though they will probably force tournaments to leave it on.

My fear is the low $15 price tag was chosen because they plan to flood the game with skins. 2 years from now brood war might be completely unrecognizable.
