mcalauncher And maybe if you have other graphics related problems maybe here ddraw fix Edit - also yes go to iccup for the sake of decency if you want a competitive ladder that's not Korean level. Just go to the iccup site, click on the english at the top right, register and open mca then login.

If you have other questions, the mca thread maybe a better place (unless if they are not related to mca launcher ofc)

Also, nice that you're interested in brood war now. I suggest checking out some of the streams on the right side to get a feel for a regular game. Then it would be wise to check out liquipedia for 1 basic strategy in each matchup. Also not to discourage you but GM in Sc2 doesn't mean anything in brood war. I'm not going to make any comparisons between ranks because skills don't transfer at all from Sc2 to BW. Which race are you most interested in? I can personally testify that zerg is an incredible race to play but is definitely a struggle to say the least! Protoss is without question the least mechanically intense to start out with but who can argue with reavers and templars? I would say terran is a close second due to TvP being so insanely hard when you start out. So make a good decision, as playing as random is not advisable at all (it's hard enough to learn 3 matchups and 1 race when you're starting out). Good luck and most importantly have fun. Edit: Yes, iCCup is where all the foreigners hang out. You have to get a launcher to be able to connect to the iccup gateway (iccup launcher or the recommended mca64launcher).

On AMD crimson, you can change the settings for certain application and set it to "Maintain Aspect Ratio". This will make it stretch to fill the screen but will keep the aspect ratio 4:3. Try messing around with your GPU settings related to SC to get it working.

Do not get discouraged! The game is difficult and requires every day practice to just get to "D" level. Losing on ICCup is normal, if you reach 50% win rate your life is complete. At start, having 2-20 stats is absolutely normal, as I said, do not get discouraged. There are very few real "D-" players now. Having played the game from 2008 I have reached C- in 2x2 only and D+ in 1x1 and that was it for me (in my defense I never cared for build orders but you should :D). So, do not get discouraged, read strategies and watch how pros play. Once you start understanding BW, you'll realize how awesome this game is.

If people don't join your games, go to channel OP Teamliquid or Ladder D-C and ask someone to test whether you can host or not. If not then use the search function here on TL for advice on how to open ports (there is an option for this in MCA-Launcher, too). gl hf

If you got ddraw.dll fix in your BW folder, you should remove it while playing on official servers. Other than that I don't know why you wanna connect to officcial battle.net servers using a launcher. If you want your APM showing up you can try ChaosLauncher. EDIT: I tried connecting with mca launcher to official servers and it's working fine. Try again, uncheck some things and remove temporarily to another place ddraw.dll. Battle.net is dead and full of hackers, only Asia is alive if you want to chill and play some UMS, Hunters etc.

Micro, macro and some strategies are transferable, but build orders are rarely transferable. So, as long as you stick with concepts, you may find a lot of similarities.

I used to play bw a lot when I was a kid because of my brother but then after a while it faded away from my life and I went on to play other games. Fast forward 5 years, I started playing Sc2 and then after like 2 years of playing Sc2 I picked bw back up again and I found myself playing on D+/C- after a few weeks. I dont know if it was from my prior experience in bw or not but it wasn't that hard to achieve. When I went back to Sc2 of course my skill had dropped and playing bw the whole time didnt increase my skill in Sc2. So basically only micro and macro kind of transfer to the other games. But enough comparisons. I love both of dem Starcrafts! Maybe you should sign up for ShieldBattery beta, I hope its gonna be awesome. I agree. SC2 and BW are just too very different games. BW macro and micro is much harder to learn than sc2 though (especially macro).

allins and cheeses are more prominent in sc2, if you look sc2 from a bw perspective, most of the games would be classifed as cheese/timing attack. but if you understand the basics, you can use them in bw, you just have to get used to the new mechanics and new timings/strategy. if you watch some commented vods you should get the hang of how things go and from there it shouldn't be hard to get to D+/C- (unless you hit 50 smurfs along the way).
