If you don't know what's going on between IEG/KeSPA, and OGN/MBC by now, you should really be ashamed of yourself. But incase you need a little refreshing, here's an excellent article made by infinity21. (please give him thanks as much as possible, work like that takes hours to do)
I'm not gonna waste time translating as it's 12:31 am and I have to sleep, so I'll just make a summary.
After a long and troubling debate regarding the broadcasting rights of Proleague, the four companies (is KeSPA a company? whatever) finally came to an sudden solution.
After the failed second meeting on the 16th, the companies got together again under the title "for the future of eSports, less self-regard and more understanding". The companies have decided to accept each other's position, MBC/OGN accepting IEG's broadcasting rights, and so forth.
The terms of the broadcasting fees and other agreements will be announced after final review .
Due to the continuation of cooperation, the postponed MSL preliminaries will resume and the opening of the Proleague on April 7th seems to be possible.
YAY!!!!!
Here's a short chain of events starting from start to finish.
- KeSPA claims Proleague rights. OGN/MBC are like "Wait, what? Fine whatever". - KeSPA auctions proleague broadcasting rights. OGN/MBC are pissed, and refuse to attend. - IEG buys rights, OGN/MBC refuse to accept it. - IEG/KeSPA talk to OGN/MBC... OGN/MBC still refuse to recognize it. - IEG/KeSPA are forced to look for other solutions... fans are pissed, proleague in danger. - Proteams get pissed and threaten OGN/MBC to cooperate or they will stop sending players to Starleagues. - Now Proleague AND Starleague in danger.... eSports in general jeopardized. - OGN/MBC suck it up and cooperate. - MSL Prelims start, OGN/MBC start fighting again with KeSPA/IEG over broadcasting fees. - MSL Prelims are postponed as proteams boycott prelims. - Fans react aswell, spamming KeSPA sites, community sites, and even holding up anti-KeSPA signs at Shinhan Masters, and planning another for Superfight 5. - KeSPA/IEG and OGN/MBC try to cooperate once again, with future of eSports in mind.
It's not over yet. They just agreed something generals because
1. Government came in and tried to settle the matter. They didn't want government to be angry. especially nowaday Kespa is getting some money from government "to develop e-Sports"
2. Shinhan Bank planned to sponsor proleague.(not officially announced) They may be afraid if Shinhan bank would withdraw sponsorship.
3. Fans started offline demonstration
No specific terms released. we should wait and see
Well on the bright side.... its good to see shinhan bank really getting involved in e-sports especially after they've sponsored 4 osl's although nothing is final, its one positive through all this negative
