There will be a spoilerfree cast the day after the casts (VODs should also follow the day after that) - Sundays at 19:00 GMT (+00:00).

Main casters will be Sayle and Cats_Paw. Others may join in or substitute them if one of them can't make it.

I understand for ro32 bracket been played every weekend but for a prelim phase playing only 1 bo3 is a waste of time, what about playing atleast 3-4 bo3 ?anything will be better than 1

its 7 Bo3s.

The simplest way of putting it is that the first Bo3 is against a random opponent, you win or lose(2-0 or 2-1 or 1-2 or 0-2) will only determine who you play next, so if your score after the first game is 2-0 then you'll play against someone else whose score is 2-0, and lets say you win that 2-0 too now your total score is 4-0, so your next opponent will be someone whos also 4-0 or if no one is 4-0 yet then you'll play someone whos 3-1 instead, its kinda like a mini ladder, people play others of equal rank or in this case set score. Top 32 after 7 Bo3s qualify.

Thats perfect, but prolonging it that long is not a good idea, better to play atleast 2 rounds in one day if not more (for prelims)

I agree with [sc1f]eonzerg, 1 Bo3 per week seems really drawn out. I fear that players might not pull through those 7 weeks just to get to the ro32.

I already talked with eon on skype about this, but wanted to write it down here as well for everyone who's worried about the format of the preliminaries.

Yes, playing 1 bo3 per week is a bit drawn out and may very well lead to some players not pulling through the whole 7 weeks. This is the one (and only?) disadvantage that we came up with when discussing the format.

Changing it to play more bo3s per week is hard because of the constraints of the format we chose. After every bo3 match, we need to collect all the replays, results, verify them and update the total standings table. Then we need to determine the matchups for the next bo3 based on those standings. Because we don't have a software that does this for us automatically instantly, we need to do it by hand and that takes time.

The reason we went for this format, despite this flaw, are its many benefits, some of which are:
- everyone plays same amount of matches (no bo1 and you're out)
- flexible schedule (new matchups will be posted on Monday and you have until Saturday to reschedule your match if you can't make it at the designated time)
- fairly assesses the best players while also giving weaker players a chance to play interesting matches against opponents of similar skill
- lets you know who is your opponent almost a week in advance, giving you time to prepare very specific builds for that particular matchup/player
- it provides fair seeds for the 32-elimination bracket
- gives entertainment to viewers following the table standings of players after each week (much like a Ladder stage)

Guys, it doesn't matter if my account on the iccup website doesn't work, right? It's a problem for tournaments since I can't sign up and play with the same account (should probably have just started playing on a new account zz) but since this is done via the TL site it'll be fine right?

wasn't gonna sign up but 32 players is a lot how many good white bw players can there be right? hue

You don't have to use the same account on ICCup as your TL name. Just write the name you're gonna use on ICCup in the box when registering.

yeah I figured, should be fine then.

So the last SSL used HBR to even the race distribution after an all T semi-final in the previous league which is understandable. But considering the race distribution of foreigner players I cannot believe that you are using such a map as heartbreak ridge. If you want to avoid Terrans that much, why not just use central plains and battle royal? Well, you probably plan to use them in the elimination stage anyway, so just let Scan participate so I can watch atleast one Terran in the whole thing.

is HBR that bad? FS and Medusa are both considered T favoured aren't they? Should balance it out a little. Seems to me like theres a lot of strong foreign zergs though and both medusa and hbr stats indicate Z>P

Nowadays apparently every map, that has a 50% winrate in any TvX is Terran favored. And yeah, Medusa is so T favored, that it contributed to the creation of the 6 dragons.

I honestly just looked at the TLPD stats and it was T>P which is unusual, probably flash had a lot of games on it or something.

I've read a lot that FS is slightly T favoured even though the stats seem to indicate its balanced

edit: I looked at neo medusa stats, medusa stats are indeed horrible for terran. hard to go mech without missile turrets go figure

Well if we're talking about map balance, then yes choosing Medusa and HBR is a great way to remove Terrans from the elimination bracket :D

I thought banning Scan was a better way to guarantee that though!

Learn from the mistakes of others. You can't live long enough to make them all yourself.

We can't allow rescheduling for the first round since the first round has randomized matchups and you won't know your opponent until the last minute (I guess I could ask your opponent if he would agree to postpone your match until tomorrow, but I can't force him to do so since there is only one additional day before the games has to be played - it's up to the goodness of his heart I suppose).

If you can't make it to the first round, you can start with a 0-2 score in the first round and then win all your games in the next rounds ^^

Also, keep in mind that it's not necessary to check-in in the TL tournament system. Everyone who signs-up will be considered as participating in the tournament and checked-in automatically.

Edited the "Registration" part of the main post to clarify this.

the "a <3 for Vanatir Initiative" is strong, i will do likewise if i get the chance. Is that okay with the TO just in case?
