I noticed CJ, MBC, LeCaf, Hanbit contracts are almost over while Samsung's contracts are over. Wonder if they arlready renewed the contracts or will try to join other teams.
|
Thanks a lot !

dood..NaDa's income is so sick. he would be in the top 0.01% of the american economy/work force.
600,000 dollars is no joke.
come to think of it though, the somewhat lesser known progamers here aren't earning as much...say compared to a teacher. i guess for the money, it isn't worth it to enter progaming, since it's one in so few that actually get to the top.
|
Well, none of the progamers really have to pay for rent or food anymore now that every team is sponsored. And it's not like they need to spend much money on consumables anyway, since they're practicing all day.
I'm surprised Savior's income is so low though.
|
Rock is making way to much money
|
is that 600k per year, or over the period of the contract?

For those like me who don't recognize most of the progamers by name, I've added their handles to nullmind's data:

In all cases im pretty sure its the whole contract amount. So he makes 200k per year more accurately.

|
No wonder that Nada keeps being so motivated, with all that cash he get. It's just sick! Seriously, it's sick!
And free needs a huge raise. His PvZ is awesome, which isn't very common nowadays, I like him .
|
Does this mean if I payed city[fou] 30k a year he'd play me 1v1 constantly until i became amazing? If you are out there somewhere city... send me a resume
|
I like GoRush and all, but damn he's overpaid. Midas deserves his money.
A fun thing to note for most of the richer teams is that the more baller you are, the shittier you've been doing lately. I guess they pay them for their image now. I don't blame them though..I'd pay Reach 400k to just sit around my house ez.
|
Wow... sAviOr only 70k ? He won vs so many good players, i was expecting at leat 200k for the 1st place kespa player.

Haha Midas wins a lot but he still doesnt take home top prize. I dont really think he is actually worth much more than GoRush: [ Maybe if he wins an MSL/OSL it would change
|
Savior is gettig payed ~1/3rd that Nada does.
I think once his contract is over he will be making much much more.

lol i like how were criticizing how much the sponsors pay the progamers I say, Nada deserves what hes getting, so does oov, kang min, but i think anytime deserves like maybe 10 grand more or so. Savior obviously better be getting a big raise, and xellos is overpaid due to lack of participation in the big scene.

you all have to pay attention to how long the contracts last. if you break it down to what a player gets per year, the numbers equal out at least a bit.
i can just hope money doesn't ruin the transfer polocies as much as in european/worldwide soccer. but many thanks for the information nullmind. I believe this has been discussed/mentioned a lot of times, but nobody had the facts to prove anything :D
besides, does anyone know about how much the gaming industry makes from the starcraft pro scene? or how much the teams get from televisioning rights and the like? that would also be interesting, mostly because that would make the player salaries better comparable to the oerall cash-flow.
|
i wonder how much they pay draco? definetly under 10k
|
Do they have sponsor contracts after those? :S
|
This is the sort of thread that encourages SC newbies to dream of becoming a progamer in Korea without any real talent... They only get to see the glorious side of the gaming scene and not see the dark side when in fact the less fortunate to fortunate ones ratio is like 20 : 1 ..
At least everyone mentioned in this thread gets 'paid'. Imagine all the semi progamers and practice partners that devotes their time to starcraft all day yet does not generate any income from it.
|
how does free survive with 6000$ a year?
even if you live for free and get 3 free meals a day, it's not really much. it's about the same i get, and i barely get around.
hm well ok he doesn't have much to spend money on i guess, and doesn't need to think about water, gas, electricity, internet fee, and that kind of stuff.

remember there is prize money on top of this.

do they earn money for playing and winning, or qualifying for leagues? or only if they manage to get their paws on prize money?
|
On February 10 2007 05:07 Manifesto7 wrote: remember there is prize money on top of this.
yeah i heard somewhere that all (or most) of the prize money goes to the team. if that is true, what does "goes to the team" mean? money is split evenly among the members? or money is used to buy stuff for the team like new furniture or whatever.
also i've been wondering if you also get money for reaching the semis or something like that, maybe a bonus?
|
Naw, prize money is personal. Only time I know otherwise was with GO/CJ and Xellos/ForU

He's right...NaDa makes 200k a year which is just a bit less than 3x 70k a year.
nice divisions :>
|
haha savior's contract is over in 1 monthish.
he's going to get the godliest raise ever xD

Quite interesting. I knew some of those numbers but certainly not all of them.
Watch out for Savior to get a huge contract once his current one runs out.
Also, why is Free[gm] being treated like a bitch? 6000 over a year? Thats 500 a month. He could make more washing cars I think. Seriously, there has to be a "minimum wage" system for starcraft pros. I suspect it would be good for new comers, encouraging them more etc. Maybe around 20,000/year.
|
So in March Savior might change team?!

Yeah, play for Team Rekrul.

Guys!!! I have to inform you.
The article says that the listed money is 'yeon bong' for the period of the contract. which means 'the money you get over an year.' (So some of the incomes are way higher than you calculated)
and I think all of the prize money go to the individuals. That's because I heard that recently, Nada's team had some conflicts with Nada demanding 20% of the prize money from him. (The prize money of ShinHan season 2)

Well, one thing people have to realize is that the vast majority of gamers make a salary of $0 or close to it. The reason they can survive is because salary is counted separate from cost of living, which is usually provided by the teams. I don't believe players pay for rent or meals. That's why players with low salaries aren't really affected adversely by this.

You guys are hella misinterpreting their salaries. That's basically allowance for them, housing and food is taken care of. Imagine how your salary would be like if you didnt have to take care of food, housing or transportation. A lotta pro gamers/amateurs dont even make a salary, but they get hella perked just because they get free housing and free food. That's a big salary in itself.

Every appearance these guys make on TV, they get a payment. Every tournament they get into, they get a payment. Meetings with fans, making videos, photo shoots, etc
Lots of things to consider.
EDIT: Also, some progamers teach Starcraft at some university in Korea

If they can hold down a job like this, then they can easily go out and find a job in some other field of work. Believe it or not, this a hard fucking thing to do for a living. And they can also (very easily) get a job within the e-Sports industry if they wanted to. Then there's the fact that they're apart of an industry where everyone from the players themselves to the camera crew and lighting guys are all basically friends with one another. I'm sure if they ever needed any kind of job recommendation, they can go to one of the contacts they have through this line of work.
|
saviors new contract better be HUGE.
|
|
|
I wish they will give out bigger prize money, cause it's alot work for that money. I say a few hundred thousand it's not that much for first, then a bit less for second and third and so on. And they should also make the games longer more BO5 and BO7 s. This way the better players will have more chance to present them self.

I say a few hundred thousand it's not that much for first, then a bit less for second and third and so on. And they should also make the games longer more BO5 and BO7 s. This way the better players will have more chance to present them self. Well, everyone gets paid however much people are willing to pay them. It's just the way the entertainment business works. Plus, if they make more BO5 and BO7 matches, the players will suffer because they won't have enough time to practice and prepare strategies. It might be more entertaining sometimes but it will also create some really boring games -- either one-sided rapes (with Savior on one side -- I'm sure everyone knows which) or really drawn-out defensive games.
Basically it makes it harder on the players and on the viewers. Best to keep the majority of the games out of 1 or 3.

Yeah, as much as I love Reach, hes being overpaid; seems like I havent seen him around often over the past year.

It's because KTF made a huge mistake of making the contract 3 years. Back in 2004-2005 when the top 3 paid KTF members joined, they were at the top. You can see other teams don't make that kind of mistake by doing only 1 year contracts.

Free[gm], Yoon Yongtae - $6,000 - 4.2006-3.2007
... how does he live...
|
|
BoxeR working for free with his team since hes required to be in the airforce anyway right?
If hes working for free then I say the S Korean Gov wins.
|
KTF are overpaid bigtime, except for Nal_rA
|
Geez.. Nada's income is so sick 600,000?!! thats crazy.. but i wonder what savior's income will be soon after he dominates yet another starleague / mbc game tournament ^_^ maybe he will be the first million$ starcraft gamer:D

Seo Ji Hoon's income is SOOOOOO overpaid
he sux
|
|
sry but, he can't even come up to league any more
CJ can't cut him off though,, cuz he was loyal to Entus when there was no sponsor. mayb he desrved it for staying but I think next contradct, he's salary gonna decrease significantly
|
|
well Korean army gets paid 20dollars a week or sumthing like dat..
|
|
So if the S Korean Gov wants a team of their own they just conscript the progamers they want, best team ever.
"Play sc and get better or we''ll send you into actual combat"
Thatd motivate anyone.

If you think about all he's really been through with his team, he very well deserves every bit of it...

You may say XellOs, Reach, YellOw, etc are overpaid [old giants who are slumping like crazy now] but remember that even if their skill isn't competitive anymore, they are still as good looking as they used to be. They're not paid to win the game. They're paid to sell products for whatever company sponsors them. YellOw and Reach can still sell KTF cellphones easily, because their fanclubs are still die hard loyal and buy KTF stuff.
KTF can easily shell out a couple hundred thousand a year for each of their progamers since they easily get it back through the marketing those progamers give. KTF itself said that it thinks it has profited at least 10fold by making their MagicN's team, even after creating Magic Camp and paying salaries and everything.

he sux If you think about all he's really been through with his team, he very well deserves every bit of it... This is the truth. He could have jumped ship like all the other G.O. players who hit it big (GoRush, rA) etc. and signed a fat contract. Instead, he stuck with his team, which is probably the only reason G.O didn't go broke before they managed to find a sponsor.

Hey guys, so i'm doing a research project for English on the competitive scene, and i'm wondering if you have a link to maybe a really credible source for these salaries, like KesPa, that has this Data too! If the Data was found over many many websites, I'll just use the MYM article for my data. But if you guys did use a direct source for this information, please share!! Thanks!! ^^ =]

You realize this was back in '07 right? long before TaekBangLeeSsang's domination and Stork's OSL gold. Stork probably makes at least 100k but more likely between 150-200k/year easy now.

Anyone have any updated numbers? I'd love to see what they make now, as well as players like Flash and Jaedong.
|
It's said that Samsung is pretty stingy in terms of progamer salary.
|
I was reading post by post for 3 pages before I even looked at a date omg lol. Would love to see what the current salary numbers are, to see maybe even where some of the top players over the years until now slowly widdled down and others shot up would be a fun read.
|
Maybe, that's why savior proceeded to earn money thru match-fixing because his earnings are lower than that of July's.
|
If Savior was paid more... say NADA's OMG wage, he won't risk his career for earning the extra buck.
|
Wow savior so underpaid despite his achievement, abit of injustice by his team. Well i guess that explains the matchfixing
|
Savior was still under his old contract at this point and it got raised to 140k/year later in 2007 or maybe 2008 iirc.
|
I wonder how much Savior made from doing what he did, it'd be interesting to see the numbers just to know if it was "worth it" even at the time. Judging those old numbers though idk maybe the fame can add to the salary a bit since he'd be able to train others and dare I say it "switch" to SC2 and win all those tournaments.

i think he just gave up after recognising he couldn't keep up with tbls. if anyone remembers, savior was a lavish spender of money. i guess greed got the better of him.
either way, i don't want this to turn into a savior speculating thread, so please leave it here.
