This will have to be a quick news post:
eNature Top Team has picked up a sponsor. International E-sports Group (IEG) is a consulting company that specializes in the field of e-sports. IEG has been active in running Korean and international e-sports tournaments, such as the ESWC, CPL, and KODE5.
The team name will be "Estro" (pronounced EE-stro, like "astro" with an 'e')
IEG is unique among companies involved with e-sports, because its main objective is not advertising. Rather, in keeping with the company's line of business, IEG wants to create a "progaming club team." What that exactly means is unclear right now, but IEG will hold a press conference on the 13th.
It's hard to believe, but now 10 of the 11 progaming teams are properly owned by stable, long-term companies. (The 11th, STX Soul, is currently in a one-year, no-individual-salary, 'trial' sponsorship. And STX is no small company.)
We've come a long way from Boxer and his four teammates eating milk and cookies for breakfast, in a small office space back in the 4U days.
[update] So e-stro are planning to expand to around 20 players, and they will get a big house/living quarters, van, the whole shebang.

Haha, I propose that, for the purposes of TLnet, we spell their name e-stro or eestro?
of course once they start losing we can call them whatever we want.

LOL the Estro Gen, classic

Good ol days. I remember boxer AND yellow being at IS, then boxer left, the team sinked, themarine being at BOX, the silver and gold lightning spacesuites they had to wear... I think NOW we are really talking progamming, and in some months every team will be backed by a big sponsor and even the suckiest in the team will get some salary maybe. If this continues to happen i guess lots of kids will want to go progaming, so at the end there might appear new pro teams since there will be plenty players to choose between.

You live in Korea dawg, you don't think the guys know what Estrogen is? It's in the air... sleeveless pink top wearing manli men.. -_-;;
|
I think this is the height of SC progaming in Korea.
and according to the law of diminishing returns...
|
I believe this is the ONLY time in history where every proleague team has a sponsorship, if you include STX's 1 year contract. They are bound to be sponsored soon permanently anyway.
Great news.

Why not just Astros, like Houston Astros
Lame team name. I'm just gonna ignore this whole thing and call them eNature no matter what.

i only know estrogen is a kind of hormon but couldn't think of it out of "Estro". as a non-english speaker, i myself couldn''t get the feeling at first that it could be used in a somehow derogatory way. or are you saying it means such a men just literally?

True, this was also a matter of debate in the Korean fan community.
I think the idea is, STX isn't in it for the advertising of any product. Rather, it's a corporate image move. The company wants exposure to young people, to enforce the idea that they are an open company. I don't know how company image can be evaluated in hard cash, but then again, if I did, I would be swimming in money (which I'm most certainly not).

It's what makes girls girls.
So if applied to men (eNature, for example), it makes them girls too
haha, what a bad idea for a name~
|
Estro sounds strained and unnatural which is funny because the team name is also eNature. its like you try to say "astro" but you get kicked at the same time and it comes out "eestro"
|
Sounds like a very weak sponsor compared to the other teams. But enature is kind of sucky anyway..

niceeeeeeeeeee more
competition!
:DD better fights over PL
Next season of PL is going to be soo pwnage!.

Well, korean males aren't that masculine to begin with, so I guess they don't have a problem with having a name like that.
|
Come on, progaming already has Miss Rainbow and a Flower Toss. They'll survive, especially since non-fluent English speakers wouldn't think of the connection.

To me STX sounds more like a investing company since they aren't advertising anything in speicific like products services ect.. they are probably one big corp that has heaps of money to invest whatever grabs their attention that worth investing. So they are acutally advertising their name to make people familiar with that name and it will count when it comes to dealin bunsiness.

Oh yea they will survive for sure. The majority of them enjoy being feminine, obssessed with having soft/snow-white skin and such.
Not me though -_-

You know i don't believe anyone of the sponsores out there are acutally getting benifit outta progaming, maybe there are some who is but ssoponsor progamings is defintly not the part where they hang themselves on. Take at look at the already-well-known brand samsung ect.. u think they care about puting money in progaming? i think they are trying sorta consolidating their homeowned bunsiness. They do whatever is hot at the time, so progaming is hawt right now so they dont wanan get behind.

Responding to a number of points.
I don't think that "masculine" has to be defined in a certain (ahem, western) way. I in fact perfer the way fashionable Koreans youths dress - to a point (death to man-purses!). I know Savior's earrings are a running joke here, but masculine doesn't always mean Arnold Swartzeneggar and John Belushi.
STX is definitely NOT an investment firm. They build stuff. Specifically, they build ships and heavy marine infrastructure.

I disagree. If you had read the statements by the ShinHan CEO after hosting the first OSL, they were very happy with the exposure and advertising they got. That is why they signed on to sponsor three more. I think it is a great move by them, because all of their target audience is within a couple years of getting an account. How do you choose your first bank account? You either go to your parents branch or know of one. Genius advertising.
The other sponsors like Pringles, and the team sponsors, fans of pro-gaming appreciate their sport being kept alove by these sponsors, and are more likely to buy the products that support their hobbies. It is hard to understate the investement in my opinion.

These companies are making a lot of money from progaming. If they weren't, they wouldn't be sponsoring the teams.

Not that I hate feminine guys or anything, it's just it is hard for me to get along with people who are like that. Sorry if I offended you, it was meant to be a joke.

the name can't be that bad of a thing... people have pretty much forgotten how stupid the "Wii" first sounded when it was announced. (i think?)

there we go, then they are advertising their ships and marine and medics opps no medic ><.Then to explain why they arent advertising their marine and medics its porlly because their stuffs are well-known, like you prolly dont need an a bottle of coke on a pepsi ad do u?

wasnt there an article saying a big team like KTF or SKT had made something like over 10x the amount in advertising than they put into the team
i mean the costs of running progaming team are so dirt cheap relative to how big these companies are

Hexatron was a PC baang franchise in Korea that sponsored the AMD team after their sponsorship with AMD fell through. So, this is more like the 4th version of the team. Or the 5th, if you count the time when the team consisted only of Grrr and he was sponsored by HanGame
