Before long, Flash will be retiring and moving back to BW! Why don't some Blizz employees make a purely graphical update to BW and then it won't be so bad watching it?

Bunch of other players on KT for example are amateurs. They are fillers because there are not enough players for a FOX only team.

Offline studios with booths and fangirls? Sponsored teams? No. A much needed teamleague in Korea? It's in the right direction. It's huge news for the people that are currently following the scene.
Great, I can cheer for good games instead of feeling sad that a certain player will get eliminated now. Beauty of team leagues, will tune in for sure. I always liked PL better than individual leagues.
Is there a way to contribute to this from a foreign country?
Its like, jesus, so epic, hope job doesn't get in the way of watching it live, either way I'll be anxiously waiting for the korean commentating of these games.
SKT picks up Pure! These teams are really well split up actually. And Jangbi is in the lineups! That means hopefully his family situation has gotten better.

I think it would be really nice if someone could make an intro video for the league, u know the types they played at starleagues and proleagues that would be cooool :D imagine if we could get that comic book style intro that the 2007 ever starleague had!!! <3 my favourite opening

Haha mine to. I will never forget Bun pointing finger at the targets for marines to shoot and the zerg swarms. Where are all the awesome designers? :D
This is huge!!! I'm so excited that I still can't believe this. Good old BW SL and PL bring tears of joy in my eyes. Zero needs to join this and Stork needs to hear BW calling and get back to it. JD we need you too, neo-HwaseungOZ needs you. I'm so HYPED!!! my old and proud OZ logo is no longer a dead team.

Yesssssssssssssssssss this is sick, I hope Vods are easily accessible as work makes staying up all night watching BW a little harder than during my school years lol

Don't worry about the price. This is the first one so its still in experimental stage. Its Beta phase kind of. So if everything goes smooth, the next one will most certainly improve.
Obviously Samsung members will be the most successful. No hate, I don't really know about BW but just looking at the names I'm pretty sure I'm correct.

I think Samsung along with KT will be among the bottom teams. Their line-ups lack both depth and a really good ace (that has proven himself in the last six months).

MBC is going to be top .. and next would either be Oz or T1 .. dat all-stars though ..
Its not winners league format right, so i guess if u can throw someone under the bus against killer, sea (bisu? ) some other teams should be able to try win it with favorable match ups MBC have pusan, tyson, lazy, jaehoon all toss but daaamnn thats pretty scary. Same with Oz, hiya, beast, sky pretty nice too Looking forward to this soooo much!!! :D its completely online right? I hope we dont get things where a player doesnt show up T_T
This is amazing and it makes me so happy. I really hope there is an English broadcast, because I can imagine many of us have fallen out of touch with Broodwar strategies and meta game.
Not that their financials are any of my business, but I also would absolutely pay for something like this.
Hmm I think Oz will win if it's regular proleague style, and MBC if it's the all-kill format. (Sea too strong) Should be some good games no matter what though.
All that is gold does not glitter, Not all those who wander are lost; The old that is strong does not wither, Deep roots are not reached by the frost.
From the ashes a fire shall be woken, A light from the shadows shall spring; Renewed shall be the blade that was broken, The crownless again shall be king.
We may not get Numenor again. But the King will Return.
I've not watched BW until this ongoing SRT but I am somehow feeling fucking awesome about this! I don't understand wtf is going on in most games (no english cast doesnt help), but regardless - where JangBi is playing, there I am watching and rooting for him!
ESU KEY TEE! Awwwww yeah, this is going to be sick! Where are my brothers and sisters! Going to add another title to our already over-filled trophy cabinet.

KT Rolster needs him for the "official" -_- proleague season coming up soon.
Maybe he'll retire next year if:
KT Rolster doesn't make play offs / finals. He doesn't do well on his own in tournaments. The empty studio continuously crushes his soul. The game becomes more boring for him. They cut his salary even further.

Why not? If he really isn't enjoying sc2 and he wants to play BW, he should come back asap. KT's going to need him (and I want him back so badly ).

Just to clarify, I'm not saying this isn't true. But I can't find confirmed lineups/format/dates/prizes anywhere atm and the post with lineups OP mentions is outdated and just asking for people's opinions. However OP also states a date when this begins, so I assume I have to be missing something (can't really check atm, work). All I'm saying is I remain sceptical about the lineups/format of this until I can see some real data.

I wonder if there's any chance we'll see Light, since he's back into BW now, although he doesn't seem to be streaming publicly yet. I think that would make MBC by far the strongest team.
Also, if this is actually happening, Sonic should figure out a way to crowdsource some funding--it worked for Valve, after all. Maybe something with Kickstarter-type donation levels? There must be at least a few dozen people who would pay for signed memorabilia or the opportunity to Skype with their favorite player (COUGH COUGH BISU) or something. We really need a fairer way to support the ex-pros than balloons or else more high-level pros like Flash coming back to BW will actually be a bad thing because the non-S-class players will get starved out.

I'm cautiously optimistic about this. Snipealot's comment makes a lot of sense, although with all the SoSPA events that has gone off recently I feel like there's quite a few players with enough time on their hands to play in something like this. That being said (and also assuming a BO5 format), all the teams need to have a minimum of 5 players available for every single match, which might not be an entirely realistic thing to expect...

Four, assuming there will be an ace match of the old.
Another thing to consider is that there are currently at least 2 clanleagues (WCL#2, AHCL) ongoing, both of which include some of the ex-pros. I don't have any insight into how these clans and leagues work but I assume it could be quite awkward for two players to play as teammates in one league and as enemies in the other?

Presumably to donate you have to give credit card information and the like. Not a lot of people are going to be to happy doing that when they can’t understand what the web page says.
Loads of things get cloud sourced today so it must be pretty simple to make a secure English language team Liquid donates fund. The problem would be firstly whether enough people are willing to donate to actually make a significant contribution for Sonic and secondly if for some reason it didn’t happen we probably wouldn’t be able to get money back. But I guess if that was the case the money could just go towards the next SRT/SSL. I wouldn’t be to unhappy with that.
On October 26 2013 19:08 herozour wrote: I can give 20 bucks. But to killer or sea or bisu personally
None of them need it. Bisu and Sea especially are earning big bucks on Afreeca.
This is going to be an intrinsic problem with the way the amateur scene is likely to function. People only want to watch and give money to the old legends and the guys currently kicking ass. There is very little support for players below this level. People that aren’t say the top 20 players aren’t going to get many people on their streams and aren’t going to get many donations so probably will have a tougher time making a living from playing Broodwar. I guess there will all ways be amateurs coming through who play for fun and just want the chance to play against the famous players. But if they can’t make enough money to make a career from it then they’re not going to play enough to get up to the level.
The way the old structure worked the teams where what ensured the new players could come through and get enough playing time.
Although from the sounds of things the B teamers didn't get paid well/at all even in the old system, at least this way they're getting some money, and if they get results too then they'll get more viewers and more balloons.

But I guess if that was the case the money could just go towards the next SRT/SSL. I wouldn’t be to unhappy with that.

People could also just donate to the Snipealot twitch stream, who is already giving most of his donations (except equipment upgrades and maintenance) to Sonic via Paypal as I understand it. Donating money to Sonic is probably the easiest and best solution to support the Korean BW scene at the moment.
Sonic just shared this on FB. As you read it, please keep in mind that my Korean skills are not only not bad to begin with but also somewhat rusty and I'm doing this in a bit of a hurry.

Shall we try doing Proleague one time!!!!!!!? Even if this fails it will be beneficial... Starting monday I will earnestly begin confirming players for the Proleague and when that ends we can progress to the 9th Individual StarLeague. It's been a long time since we could observe teamwork of the players like this.
At the same time, the 8th Team wouldn't be Sonic All Star, but rather amateurs would participate as Sonic's team and train so that the aces will then naturally participate in the 9th Starleague.
Furthermore, the interest overseas is seriously explosive as seen in the comments and hits (this thread). Although it's before winter break, let's try to squeeze in a Proleague schedule and as soon as that ends proceed straight to 9th StarLeague just after a week's break. It's been a long time since I planned to make something like a Proleague happen!!!!!!!!!
Please share what your thoughts are on this topic in the comments.

I'm not entirely sure about some points, like the level of commitment he's showing but it seems he's pretty set on making something happen before SSL9. In my opinion it could be something like Snipealot said before, a smaller cup of sorts. I believe he refers to it as "something of a proleague feel". So let's show some more explosions of interest? ^^

It's up to the players now. Sonic will start contacting and confirming players from monday, set a schedule and host a proleague, or rather a team-tournament. It'll be a short one, I don't expect round-robin. Most probably it'll be a bracket system starting from ro8 and maybe having the finals(+perhaps ro4) offline.
Anything similar to the 1st Sinbal Farm Team Battle would be great. It's also a very reasonable start. It's better to have something smaller succeed and build up more hype for something bigger. I'm looking forward to anything Sonic can do.

First Sinbal Farm Team Battle:
2012-01-13 Terror All-Stars vs Mong Rank (I don't know what this is, some of Mong's friends I guess?) 5-2
Although the previous team dynamic is nice and all but I still prefer that they split the players into tiers such as Class A: Killer, Sea, Bisu, JangBi, Movie, Hero, Mind, Amateur Class B: Mong, sSak, etc. etc. so on and so forth to divide the players. And then have the Class A players decide on who to pick for their next players by having a 8 man tournament to decide who to pick first and who to pick last. I feel that Sonic is just coercing players to play with each other for sake of their former experiences/glory on same team. The 8 team arrangement should be done more organically so we can witness new dynamics of play style and such. Perhaps they can even name their own team.
On October 27 2013 02:10 Stratos wrote: As for the team names, Sonic's idea was that they'll be called ex-XYZ before they (hopefully) find a new sponsor.
Like the last time he tried. PC Family, Sinbal Farm, etc.
Oh good, so we don't have to lynch GTR for giving us false hope
I wonder if it would be possible to help him set up some sort of quick kickstarter like thing so he can get some resources from westerners if he needs it.

But either way, just my 2 cents.
I don't know, if you based it on tourney winnings, it probably wouldn't be so bad. But you can't just throw Jangbi, Mind, or Bisu up there and expect people to take it sitting down. Yes, they're really really good, but they haven't proven it in the amateur scene yet.
Either way, I think this is an informal event, so regardless of skill, people would pick their teammates and friends.

Actually, keeping the format as close as possible to the previous Proleague format, is probably overall the best decision, for a variety of reasons. For example, it shows the original sponsors, that they were appreciated, allows some of the decisions they made to remain intact, and provides some benefit to them as well. It will also make a transition easier. I'm sure Sonic has considered relevant factors in deciding the format. He has been doing a good job organizing his various events, and improving aspects of the events consistently over time.

I'm probably most excited about Sonic Team. I started discovering the amateur scene recently and it's full of fun tournaments and leagues with players who simply play for fun. Sonic picking a few of these under his wings is a good sign of him planning ahead and realizing that he needs to integrate these players into his leagues to motivate more players and get in the fresh blood that will eventually be needed.

Sonic PL would be great. However, I notice there's one player conspicuously absent from the former CJ line-up. A player unique among e-sports personalities. A Zerg player, well-known for his defiler control, who won his only OSL in 2007. Then a few years later won his last televised game in 2009, played in his last MST in 2009, and shortly after left the scene completely, not just as a player. He still hasn't taken up SC2. I'm talking, of course, about + Show Spoiler +
They should make new teams instead of basing them around their old ones. Create new team names, mix up the players. Spice things up. Seeing "former KT" is just sad.

I'm down with them keeping their old sponsored names, you never know, it could be an incentive if not for their old sponsors, then possible new ones in the future (you'd still rather sponsor "ex-SKT" than "AmateurTeamA").
Besides, the rivalry must continue! Not that it's much of a rivalry with those lineups.
i like the idea of sonic trying to group them into their old teams, we all still carry team tags and this basically means we get to cheer for our team again!! :D

THE RENAISSANCE IS HERE! Currently, I'm checking back on TL every week or so, and I get pleasantly surprised by some news every single time. Hopefully, I'll have more time to follow the show when all this unfolds.

No idea. There is a Perfectman retires thred but that's over a year old and seems like no one had any idea what he was doing back then either.
im pretty sure ive seen perfectman play this year, i think ive been liquibetted him in an SRT or something SSL? i cant remember atm...i remember a game with him and carriers on a space tile map this year.

Yeah liquidpedia says he played in 8th 9th and 11th Sonic SRT's so he was active until recently.
PerfectMan played in SRT15, that was the most recent, he had been inactive for a period before that. He doesn't live in Seoul and can't go to offline parts of tournaments, that's why he dropped out of SSL8 after the group ceremony. He has some job or something that's why he is busy.

For now Light isn't interested in playing for money. That could change but currently that's the situation. He has a part-time job so he can't stream too often.

But you know what happened when the cage opened... And also... your team had the gorilla :p

I feel like it only ever really applied to Chinro, since he sort of looked like a gorilla. How did oov get the name originally? Because of 'oov smash'?

Because of his height. And also I hear that during his SKT gamer days, he likes to eat bananas. Banana, primates? I hope you can connect the dots on that one.

Thank you for your awesome contribution. Watching casts of brood war needs you to follow the scene quite closly because they are no websites dedicated to it that sort tournaments and vods.
So each time i want to watch some i have to lurk in BW tournament thread, click links, see again for next BR with VODS etc...
But maybe there is a website where i can find entire tournaments (be it KR or other) sort by games with no spoilers (again like sc2casts.com if someone knows this).

It's a shame streaming wasn't around in the Clan League/Nation War days. People used to flock to our channels to find out scores in the matches. Mostly other teams and old friends to find out what was happening and they would have to wait for the replays to see how those matches transpired because you could only have so many observers and then you have the old battle reports. Very limited documentation of the other events.

Before a true ProLeague begins, I plan on hosting a demonstrational a ProLeague KOTH Tournament. A team that first reaches 5 wins will be awarded ₩ 2,000,000 (as in SRTs).
Example) STX vs CJ battle, if STX wins it's 1 win. Same in the next round. As in an individual KOTH, the winner progresses to the next round.
After the 18th SRT Finals are over, it looks like we'll be starting next tuesday with an STX vs CJ 5:5 team battle.
What are your thoughts everyone?

I assume this means we'll get this, then SSL9 and then possibly more PL attempts.
It’s a great start. A Pro-league style tournament definitely puts more pressure on players to be able to commit to been able to play with probably only a few days notice (especially king of the hill format). I'm sure we will get a few drop outs and teams unable to play the players they want to because they couldn't make that day. But if we have enough players spare waiting it should work.
Also as hopefully it becomes more successful and perhaps finds sponsorship players will be able to make more time for it as there is more at stake.

1 MVP regardless of victory or defeat will be chosen and he will receive all balloons donated to SonicTV during the match. (I think?)
I wouldn't be 100% sure about those lineups until they actually play considering only 1 person in total has changed since the first announcement and some of these players are known to be on a hiatus. Some of these players switched teams ( Britney, Pure, maybe someone else idk), these are Sonic's adjustments.
I will cast this ~8 hours after I imagine it will finish, in English, at a time more reasonable for EU and North Americans. Possibly I'll cast with L_Master or someone else, I'll make arrangements to see how it goes.
dude eff that game. Jd nearly killed himself trying to win. If matchpoint had more bases he woulda had that one in the bag. Split map really sucked for z on mp
edit: also i just realized OZ is back!!! (kinda) now we just need jd playing bw again and life will make sense again haha
