Just now, on the Dotaek Revolution broadcast, Jaehyuk kept saying that his best moment was when he caught Jedong, lol.
He caught him in the finals.
Haha.
He said that was the best.
That's it.
I turned off the TV at that time.

Haha.
Wow, do you remember that?
Park Jaehyuk joined Dotaek Revolution because he was so good.
He kept saying he wasn't the right person to join, and Jung Myunghoon prepared several questions. He started talking about his prime and said that was his greatest achievement. Jedong was such a big mountain, he seemed proud.
Hyuk must have been talking about the Shinhan08-09 Proleague finals which had the following line-up: PerfectMan < Heartbreak Ridge > Bisu Jaedong < Outsider > Hyuk BackHo < Destination > Canata Killer < God's Garden > Thezerg HiyA < Neo Harmony > FanTaSy Lomo < Shades of Twilight > BeSt Ace <Neo Medusa> Ace+ Show Spoiler +
I still remember the cheese that fantasy used in the ace match. Sooo tricky, as a zerg it still burns. I believe in interview it was said that boxer himself came up with it...

the only highlight id probably point out from the video is their discussion on kespa era vs current era performance. since its a discussion thats been had recently in the forums its probably the most relevant.
maybe jinjin will translate the video entirely or in segments, but to paraphrase what they said: hyuk: i was better back in kespa. now my brain is melted and i cant think. bisu: this is probably the correct answer. if i went back in time with my current game knowledge id be...(better). my mechanics were undoubtedly better back then. my micro was better back then. game knowledge is better now, but if pro bw didnt come to an end the advantage in game knowledge we have now wouldnt exist, so i think i was definitely better back then. my micro has definitely gotten worse. i used to be good at dragoon micro, now im bad. zealot micro also bad. reaver control was also satisfactory in the past. the only exception for me is carriers, which i use better now. so overall i definitely feel i was a better player back then. best: i think the absolute skill level for everyone has gone up since then, mechanics aside. fantasy: i said this in my q&a as well but i think i would be better at tvz and tvp now, but my kespa self would do better in tvt. i feel tvt hasnt really changed at all since then, whereas tvz and tvp has had changes in the meta over the years.
also since theres been a bit of ambiguity about what "mechanics" means, ill just leave a disclaimer for how koreans talk about it. koreans use 2 words when talking about game skill. the first is "physical" (the literal english word). as you would expect, its used to describe everything you do in the game that requires physical action. micro, macro, multitasking, reaction speed, you name it. the ability to convert the thought in your head into an action on the screen. the emphasis isnt on apm count or micro specifically, its everything to do with keyboard/mouse inputs. the second is "gaenyom", which in this case refers to game knowledge/theory, the mental side of the game. all the theory behind build orders, optimisation, mind games, army movement and map control etc.
its a pretty simple way of approaching the discussion. "mechanics" to them is simply the process of converting everything they have in their head into an action in the game. and bisus answer is the most common answer pros have given time and time again on the topic. pros' mechanics are absolutely worse now than in the past. in other words, their ability to input an action into the game with the same speed and precision as what theyre thinking in their heads has deteriorated.
and this shouldnt be a controversial take. its obvious to anyone that your skill in game is limited to your brains capability. this limitation doesnt apply in the reverse scenario however, its very easy for you to perform worse than your max capability because your body physically cant cope anymore. this happens in real life to literally everyone in all facets of life

I'm going to Soul in April for two weeks and was hoping for a chance to grab a ticket to see some games of ASL season 21 live. Anyone know where tickets are sold? I thought they were sold in ticketlink but seems like 2024 was the last time tickets were sold there.

They are saying mechanics feel harder to do(same as being worse), but they are better today in all other aspects. Partially because mechanics are also not as important as the rest. Players who relied heavily on just Mechanics like Hyuk fail hard these days. Players who rely on brainy play like SK thrive.

Yes. to me they do look worse in that game. I have watched and watch maybe more pro replays than anyone and am maybe the person who is most on top of pro play. I am not saying I am correct, I am saying this is what I think. I have seen cleaner movement and micro so many times in so many of the replays and vods I've watched. Are Jaedong's mechanics "bad" in that game ? Hell no. It's top tier among the top tiers. But I have legitimately seen better from Jaedong in the past years.
edit: I have to make a slight addition/change. I think peak mechanics was 2020-2023. Players now are generally slightly worse mechanically than in those years. Not all of them, but most of them. I tend to mix 2020-2022 with "today" but its definitely already a few years ago.
On March 06 2026 22:21 Ideas wrote: Are there any notable amateurs in KR that are under the age of like 25? IE still young enough to have peak physical mechanics?
There's plenty 25-35 Y/Os with peak mechanics. The decline in cognitive processing speed, and physical reaction speed are VASTLY overstated by almost everyone. A multitude of scientific studies suggest that in individuals who are trained in physical sports, or in low-physically demanding sports, that reaction speed declines only by like 10-20ms over the entire age range of 25 to 35. This roughly translates to going from an average of 200ms reaction speed to 210-220ms reaction speed. In practice that is nearly completely negligible. And in a game like Starcraft where raw reaction speed is not important, but processing speed is, the consequences of this loss should have next to no impact on performance whatsoever.
Performance is about "anticipation and pattern recognition", "Reading opponent's cues", "Positioning", and "Decision efficiency", just to name a few examples that full under "cognitive processing speed/ability".
And if we look at pure physical ability/performance in pro athletes in measurable activities, we tend to see, according to studies, a small to moderate decline over the age range of 25-35, a decline that should not affect performance in Starcraft that much, because "raw" physical ability dependent on fast twitch muscle fibre is not important. Sprint speed generally declines by 3-7%. Vertical jump declines by 5%-10%, which is quite big. Things like Strength are hardly affected at all as almost ALL strength world records are set by 30-40 year olds.
If we look at studies on violinists, pianists the data suggests we only see a 1% to 3% decline in overall speed over the entire age range from 20 to 50. If they maintain a training regiment of any form they maintain their timing and precision, error rates are actually improved upon, and so does consistency. Now this does come with the footnote that "if they maintain a training regiment." There is a barrier where too little training does result in higher error rates, worse timing, worse precision, but marginally so.
This is in part because they develop enlarged sensori-motor cortical maps for their fingers, which is a very well research and documented form of brain plasticity in professional musicians. With thousands and thousands of hours of practice the brain reallocates cortical space in order to give more space for that which is used most, and is most demanding. This means more neurons become dedicated to the fingers. We have every reason to believe the same happens in pro gamers.
this rambling aside, we don't have players that young at the top, not that I know of at least. I think Skey is pretty young.

Yes, Peeano , i agree! Maybe we can add infinshin on the BW bar , even if he only plays fastest map. He is making record number on views and donation !
