The duality of man. I only find Arty’s stream tolerable, indeed enhanced because of the other aspects of his personality. If he was like that all the time it would be embarrassing, but he’s been a genial fellow as the voice of many a broadcast for a good ten years for me, hell if his kid pops in he just flips the switch immediately. Met the guy with Tasteless at a Dreamhack many moons ago and he’s a consummate gent. I might add I mostly only watch compilation clips of him raging, intermittently and his VoDs of when Scan/Nyoken is coaching him, or his ban/unban VoDs. I absolutely couldn’t sit through hours of his actual stream. @Magic Powars those guys aren’t almost exclusively streaming Brood War, hardly comparable. And Pewds is hardly without controversy. I don’t know enough about Brood War and Artosis’ role in the wider scene to comment on his legacy there outside of the SC2 era. Net negative would seem to me a bit harsh though

Also his streaming persona (yes it is a persona) is very appealing to the broad masses, further increasing his reach. Him and Tasteless are doing gods work to push BW to a non-hardcore audience. Bless them.

Yes they come for Artosis, the guy they know from Sc2. They get exposed to BW. My mate who hasnt played either starcraft in like a decade found artosis stream so funny he asked to watch some ASL with me and then did some laddering himself in BW.

What do you want him to do, watch foreign streamers? Why? If u wanna learn the game you are much better off watch casts, Korean streamers or subbed korean tutorials on youtube. He adds to the non-korean player pool making it easier for all of us to find games, personally thats about all I want to see from non-koreans ![]()

It attracts far more viewers than any other non korean and most of his viewership is SC2 ppl so it helps spread the good word of BW to others. Bless them. To an extent, right? In my opinion it seems like they bring in a lot of viewers that would not otherwise watch BW, but it doesn't seem to translate into those viewers then moving on to consuming content from other streamers/players/creators, supporting tournaments, or playing the game. It often feels to me like Artosis (and Tasteless to an extent as well) are often working towards broadening the appeal of themselves streaming BW, rather than making any real attempt to broaden the appeal of BW. And I mean, fair enough, make your money I guess, I just wish the largest BW streamer on Twitch would make more of an outward effort to support the foreign scene as a whole instead of just increasing their own following.

To be absolutely fair, The Pylon Show did (does?) a lot of cross-promotion of other events, leagues, and etc. - even without the organizers requesting it. When I hosted an event about 2 years ago, Artosis discussed it during the broadcast, without my having ever contacted him about it (and I doubt anyone did it on my behalf). I believe the same occurred later on both through TL and The Pylon Show for another event. So, credit where credit is due, at least outside of his own stream he does promote others in the community, or at the very least he certainly did in the past - no matter how big or small.

This I 100% agree with. My perspective exactly. As for Artosis acting or not.. I think it's half and half. I think it's really him underneath (the constant balance whine) but he also spices it up a lot to make more money and entertain the audience.

Simple example, Scan and Nyoken didn't need a patreon community to pay them 12 000 $/month in order to produce quality casts for an entire season of ASL.

I mean.. he's an asset for sure.. but to say he's done so much for the foreign community.. idk, man. A little bit of a stretch. Considering his popularity, he could have done much, MUCH more without really losing anything in the process.. but he doesn't. And that's okay, his choice. But saying he's done some insane amount of work for the community is too much.
