Greetings, BW community!

We over at SC2BW just wanted to invite you to our SC2BW tournament we are organising. I hope it is okay to post about this on the BW forums, as I know this is technically SC2. However, since it is supposed to be a recreation of BW, I thought it would not hurt to at least send an invitation to the BW community to share Maverck's creation.

Maverck has long (~2.5 years) since embarked on remaking BW on the SC2 engine. Even adding in BW sound/music/models, he has fought the SC2 engine to implement BW pathing, hotkeys, selection, economy, high ground mechanic, moving shot, and a host of other BW features that make BW what it is. While things are not perfect, this mod has come a long way since its previous public exposure. It may not be 100% BW, but it may surprise you just how close it is. Not only that, with more games and suggestions, Maverck is a dedicated map/modmaker who will make it even better.

Our community is growing, and it consists of both SC2 players and BW players. We have a wide range of skill. Some people have never played a game of BW, while others used to or still regular iCCup.

Tournament information:
Inaugural SC2BW Friday Tour
http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=391517
Note: There will be more maps available for the tournament. It is not just Fighting Spirit.

SC2BW mod information (OP is out of date):
http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=145316

SC2BW mod more information on its features (may be out of date)
http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=390265

If you just want to try it out (instructions are just for the NA server, because I do not know how it is on the others. Should be similar, though):

For Fighting Spirit: Go to Arcade, search for SC2BW, and create "SC2BW | Fighting Spirit | 1v1 |". It should be "by MavercK".
For Grand Line, Destination, or BGH: Go to Starcraft, Custom Games, Create Game, Search for SC2BW. Any of the 3 results are official. Should be "by MavercK". UPDATE: many more maps added under custom games
All maps not by MavercK are unofficial and probably way out of date. Do not play these. (On other regions' servers, though, the official version could be published by someone else, as approved by MavercK.)
Note: In order to choose BW mode (3 separate settings), you must CREATE, not join. The options will be available in the game lobby.
We are aware of the 1500 HP hatcheries (and nearly all other small bugs/discrepancies) . The hatcheries (and other similar small bugs) are due to something on Blizzard's end with the map publishing. Fighting Spirit does not have this bug. Everything else should be fine (working as far as the latest version), though. Please do let us know of any bugs.

Community:
Chat channel SC2BW. You will want to come here to find players. You probably will not find any just by creating/joining a game, as the players just play in private games.

Anyway, thanks for bearing with me here. I hope there is not too much SC2 in the post >_<.
BW <3

If this interests you at all, please do tune in or play! We would love for all of you to join us.

We plan on having this streamed/casted. I will just be shameless and ask if any of you want to help cast or stream, please do not hesitate to tell us so on the tournament page. Thanks!

Best,
purakushi

With the SC2 engine displaying the building grid anyone can wall perfectly...

Hope to see Match Point, Colosseum, Jade and Circuit Breakers in the pool!

I'll expand the pool to include more maps based on what MavercK gets up in time for the tour. Currently, FS is the only option, but he said he plans on getting a few more up by tourney time.

Obviously, the BW forum's going to clean house.

I'm a lowly D player, but I think I can represent the BW forum well against SC2-onlies 8)

Why would anyone use automine, though? Makes the game so boring

Played 1-2 games of SC2BW (haven't played any BW since SC2 release), and I'm pretty sure buildings take the nature of SC2 - [almost] all buildings have full collision with each other - units can't slip in between if the buildings are touching. So like lings can't slip in between gateways touching, etc.

Totally forgot that's how you used to design your sim city.... tried to lower my depot doing a full depot wallin then felt stupid T_T. Was a C on iCCuP before SC2 for reference. Been way too long, I'm sure a D player would smash me now... I can't imagine really any SC2BW players beating any BW players even with the entirely different engine, etc.

Also forgot that 3 marines in BW do NOT beat 6 lings in BW... lol. That ended very poorly for me.

What I wonder is why someone would go through all the work of making a mod instead of just playing the original.

Graphics and pathing. Pathing is still better in SC2, although this will heavily alter the gameplay as well. I have no intention of going back .

I truly dislike how easy it is in SC2BW to drop mines as vultures though. That's something that transferred horribly (vultures in general).

The pathing was changed to be similar to BW except a little less retarded. The way units spread and such is still the same, but dragoons won't go walking out randomly anymore.

Another change is that units no longer always spawn at the same spot next to buildings, it depends on the rally instead.

Tournament default for automining is ON? And limited selection off? That's a bit of a bummer :<

Probably not gonna play myself, but I might tune in to the cast if it's not at a terrible time!

Yeah, I wish it was full BW mode, too. Most players want this, anyway. Please note that if you and your opponent agree on settings, you can change it to BW mode.

Pathing is absolutely nothing like BW. Only bug diff from sc2 is clumping/collision size I feel. I guess they do walk slightly more in line though.

Yes, I agree that full BW settings are more ideal, and add more strategic depth to the game. However, there were a significant number of people in the general SC2BW thread that said they were totally unprepared to deal with full BW mode, so I struck a compromise as the "default" settings.

Players are allowed to use whatever settings they want provided they agree; and BW settings are highly encouraged.

It's pretty hard to get the originall BW set up, so SC2BW works well as an entry point to new fans who might otherwise go "fuck this" when trying to set up their routers (my own router is fucked, so I can't open ports T_T)

Also, most off ICCUP apparently lives in Northwest buttfuckistan, so unplayable lag is more common than not

I'd be a bigger fan of the mod, though, if it kept the techniques from Brood War, but changed the arbitrary and nonsensical ways to get them to happen in BW. Muta stacking is fine and all, but having to have a building/overlord/whatever in the control group adds nothing to the game but confusion and a trip to liquipedia >

It's always been a bit too slavish of a remake for me. I'd prefer a mod that changed SC2 to be more like BW, then a simple port. That would be interesting (I've always wondering if sticking the SC2 units into the BW mechanics would make the game more fun to watch), and might even help lead to small changes in SC2 proper to make it BWier. HotS buffs the high-skill units and bit and nerfs the a-move units (which is a good change!), but it could've been a lot better if the pressure was kept up.

Yeah, BW macro mechanics with automine and MBS is completely ludicrous. The are no APM sinks (chrono boost/mule/larva injects) in BW because BW doesn't need things like that normally. If you play BW in SC2 mechanics, it's even easier to macro than in plain old SC2. Macroing as Zerg in SC2BW on SC2 settings is literally 4D5D6D done.

There is no automine.

Hopefully most players will "man up" and use BW settings anyway.
