Totalbiscuit had to shut down an SC2 tournament because Blizz wanted half the ad revenue. Maybe Blizzard wanted a licensing fee, or their logo all over everything, or just want BW tournaments to be cleared by them in advance to protect the IP. Maybe Blizz Korea are a bunch of douchebags, and everyone on the anger train is right. But I doubt Blizz shut the tournament down solely because they didn't want it going on. I wanted to stay out of this thread but the amought of missinformation in this thread is atrocious. TB's shoutcraft invitational was never shut down by Blizzard, because it was always on the 5k limit that Blizzard allows for tournements without licence(for SC2). Infact if i recall correctly he was granted a licence some time ago to hold a tournement above that after some work he did for Blizzard(can't rememper what). What put Shoutcraft invitational on hold was and is still to this day the immence oversaturation of the SC2 scene. There havn't been an appropiate weekend all year.

Personally i never was fan of whining on official forums, dont think so you could get far even with a well written complaiment. And i'm not even sure there is a forum for BW tournaments and / or anyone would read it in time

But there is no doubt that Sonic is at fault as the tournament organizer for not taking care of such an important issue beforehand. Sonis is at fault but all things considered, Blizzard is asking for a shitstorm by blocking finals of a league. It's not like they didn't know until know that it exists and it's not like they would suffer significant lose if they would approach Sonic only after the final. The timing is terrible but what's worse it's probably deliberately terrible.

People are passionate about BW enough that some of us view this as absolutely despicable to do on Blizzard's part while also acknowledging that Sonic fucked up on not making sure he had it completely cleared with them. But if it comes out that he was being misdirected or delayed in any way even if he had applied early for this, it would only make Blizz's position much worse. Frankly, Blizz Korea also hitting on Afreeca for restreamers/BJs is a very bad business move for them.

Also, Blizzard's legal department has a history of shoot first, ask questions later when it comes to copyright lawsuits. The World of Starcraft custom game was given a cease-and-desist and threatened with a lawsuit, only to have the cease-and-desist lifted once it was actually reviewed.

Lol he did it to save himself from a worse ban than he requested so he didnt rage on the forums smart choice :D Also Kespa was running without a blizzard license for the longest time I thought... Never played BW much besides the campaign after I knew about the game and still kind of find this as an asshole thing to do to the tournament organizer. Works probably alot of hours and pours so much money into it and then this come along.. Hope you guys are able to solve the problem and continue on with the tournament. GLGL :D

it's not just the league, I can hypothetically understand that (especially since future SSL had a like 15k sponsor lined up; it's big money), but if nowcom got a lawsuit then wtf can they do? "no one stream brood war anymore kk thanks"? just fucking kicking the community down for no gain.
