Because my friend lost his key, I offered to pick up a new copy for him. Turns out the Best Sellers Series copy is not sold anymore, but to my surprise the one they have is a newer print from 2011. For a game that is 14 years old, this is actually cool to have imo.
Recommended for anyone who still don't have the game! Of course, you can still opt for a Download version.
Here the pics...

Discs exposed
The printing seems more clear, notice the Protoss and the Zerg art on the Expansion disc and compare it with the pics that follow. They have never looked this good on the disc. (who needs optical media these days some might think).
Also notice the 16 PEGI logo, they found out that most of the kids from the 21st century are too young to play this manly game these days so I guess that's why they put it there... Joking aside, it can still be a very tough game for anyone of any age to learn.

Old versions: Bestsellers Series, and the Original pictures (taken from eBay)
The old discs are more shiny, and the artprint look over saturated.

And another...

Odd system requirements...
They make it look like you can't run this on Win9x (Win95, Win98 etc.) operating system anymore. Running Win XP on a 90 MHz computer is really pushing it.

I think that about wraps it up. The CD key seems longer, with 5 strings instead of 3 (I believe 3 is what the older versions have). The box and the discs have improved so much, I think I might pick up a new copy for myself soon. Just to have it, I already own a key.

Wow looks like a cool game i might just try it.

Nice. Never actually saw the new cds. I bought my friend a new copy and they seem to have change install method too. They had no cd patch already included in that installer (lucky :/)
|
This is really cool indeed. Never thought they would still print SC1.
|
I wonder if they fixed the colour bug seeing as they are officially supporting win7.
|
This game will ruin SC2 and esport... 14 years old just WOW !

I am curious about this as well
may pick it up for the sake of collection

Have you tried downloading SC 1 and BW from www.battle.net (you need a bnet account and your keys have to be registered)? It has a newer installer as well (it installs version 1.15.2 iirc) but the color fix is not included. I wonder what version ships with those new CDs.

i bought mine in 2009 i believe and it was already like thisTT

But yeah, they should remove that. Could they get in some kind of legal trouble if they're advertising BW works on Win7, when it clearly has compatibility issues?

I believe the contents on the disc is from the download version.

The download version comes in one package though, the retail is split up in two discs.

That's got a nice package compared to the one I re-bought (for the sake of it, as I already had 3 digital copies), it came in the old chest cardboard packaging, was kinda funny too since it was the only one left in the entire city of Tyler,Tx. I went to every store in town that could have had a copy of BW and to my surprise found it hidden in a Target. Well worth the 20$ and 3 hours looking around though, was excited when I did find it.

This thread reminds me about something I've wondered . . . I have a copy of SC with a Mature rating from the ESRB. Is that particularly rare?

Represent. I grew up in Van, TX and regularly went to Tyler. Recently moved to Colorado for work though. We could've been BW buddies!

That actually looks pretty nice. Glad they did something right. But fix the win7 issue! lol.

Could also just use the iCCup download servers...
Has plugins built in along with configuration files to connect to some gateways.
No color fix as it is a Win7 problem with LOTS of old games. But comes with noCD, etc.

They actually offered in Poland as well. Bought 4 copies

I bought the digital version this year - it didn't have any color issues in Windows 7 (haven't tried online though).
Edit: No other issues either.

I heard this game had good reviews

This game grew to become the best RTS game ever made, it's sad that people fancy graphics over ages of knowledge discovered in SCBW and it's impact on the progaming scene.

O.o i thought they went out of circulation. last time i went to gamestop with some friends, i asked the employees if they still had any shipments of BW coming in (out of curiosity ofc) and they told me last shipment was like 2-3 months ago.
REALLY COOL! :D

The color issue isn't really a big problem IMO, at least for the multiplayer part. The game is perfectly playable, you only see some weird color lines when there's some water in the maps. Sure it can be annoying in the game menus (menus can be hard to read because of that color bug and they are really ugly lol), but its no biggie for me. The weird thing is that sometimes I start the game and the colors are bugged and sometimes it doesn't happen at all.
Also I'm not sure if its related to the color bug but the last time I tried to play the campaign, I could only play between 10 minutes and an hour before the game would crash and then the fatal BSOD. Was really annoying so I gave up lol.

did they already fixed trhe 100% cpu issue?

True True.

The classic battle chest will be #1 in my heart always. Not the minified one, the original battle chest was a hefty box lol...

Yeah I still have that one that comes with the prima guide lol.

Very sick, I have four battle chests (each acquired in order to legitimately get friends to play at LAN parties over the years), but with most of the discs missing (because BW spreads like love), I think this'll come in handy as a gift for a few friends of mine who never got to experience BW the first time around.
This reminds me, it's only October, but Christmas in a few months... yea I think I'm going to need a few copies of this... my roommates must be enlightened dammit!
