How does cancelling buildings work exactly?

Was just wondering how much money you lose, and if you lose more money at different points of the building process.. because right now, I'm starting to cancel buildings and technology after a scouting SCV sees my goon range, for example, and then I'll go for DTs.. was just wondering how much is lost when I cancel (besides time!)

Buildings are the only ones that lose money. Units and upgrades don't. (I'm pretty sure it's like that).

You lose 25% of the money (only for buildings) full refund for units. Your fault that you fast expo.

Me too.. and units are fully refundable? I didn't know that.. often when I 2 gate rush zerg, i make 2 zealots on 1 gateway by accident instead of 1 on each.. stuff like that is good to know, that i can hit cancel.. and tech is fully refundable too?

Good players seem not to cancel their mistakes (building 5 tanks in 1 factory and none in others or expansion being destroyed) I guess they are saying to themselves:

"Look what you did, you idiot, aren't you supposed to be good? If you lose let this be a lesson to you"

MPXMX - I dunno, I've noticed pro gamers break off into two classes:

1> Those that don't care if they have 5 tanks building in one, and 1 in the other (e.g. Elky)

and

2> Those that will cancel and rearrange what is building where (e.g. Boxer)

most progamers are too busy to see that they have 1 or 5 tanks building from a factory.

True too...they are also too busy to move command centre and let it get killed off by 1 dragoon, or to repair shit and cancel stuff in their factories as they are being destroyed.

I thought a lot of them didn't cancel at all, but when I paid closer attention, the upgrade/unit or whatever was cancelled at the last possible instant if there was any hope of keeping the building alive.

Sure there are those that don't, but a lot do

You get your money back if a building dies before the upgrade is completed I thought.

No, you should always cancel any uprgade or unit when there is no hope of keeping a building alive.

And you get back 33% (I thought) when cancelling a building.
All you have to decide, is what to do with the time that is given to you

I am just a newb and i knew u get ur money back, if a building is destroyed, and units are built by it.
But to make sure i dont say shit ( although i was pretty sure about it ) i just tested it.#
500 Minerals for the 5 goliaths i ordered.
So there is no loss at all.
But i like the idea of people wasting their time, when they are playing against me ^^

For upgrades u lose 25 % if the building is destroyed, nothing if u cancel.
