Though it don't really use the full 100% processing power of the cpu, it cause my laptop fan to run whenever I run BW and that eats up battery fast!!! I wonder if there is a way to lower the cpu % allocation. change your power settings to presentation mode or power saving mode or something...that caps the cpu speed to a certain speed around 400-700 mhz usually.

I run another 2d game sometimes (ultima online) and until someone finished a tweak for it, it used 100% cpu for most people as well. i asked him what exactly it was he fixed... the problem? these games are running at the maximum amount of frames per second allowed by your cpu at all times, so starcraft is running at who knows how many frames per second even though it doesn't have to, a very simple tweak would make it run at however many frames per second it actually needs, instead of 100+ when it's showing little to no action, a simple little game like starcraft should be running no more than 30 frames per second at any point in the game, even with four 400apm players playing at once. what do you mean, exactly? You appear to not have read my post. Games that use all spare CPU cycles are (or used to be) actually programmed quite well. It's insurance in case some unexpected process pops up so that the game never slows down - a classic intelligent programming technique. You're not getting any "bonus" frames per second or anything, this isn't a first-person shooter. Starcraft stays locked at about 24fps on the fastest game speed. The hand speed of the players is irrelevant. You really know very little about how 2-D games operate, don't you? You can't relate them to 3-D ones.

then, I'll suggest taking your computer to your local shop and having them -correctly- putting on a generic heatsink/fan ... because that's all you need to not be overheating. If your current hsf isn't handling 100% cpu, then you / someone probably put it on wrong or something..or maybe you need a more contemporary one..but I doubt it, because I've had no problems with stock cooling on old burning hot amds

I've tried installing different (older) video card drivers and I've re-intalled starcraft and broodwar, yet the problem is still there, believe it or not this crappy old game is actually overheating my cpu, something 3d FPS games that are supposed to take more resources don't do. Has anybody had this same weird problem (or not) and know how to possibly fix it? I'm so close to re-formating this piece of junk :/ Starcraft make te CPU work and heat up alot. If you start to ger errors or if your PC start to shutdown on it's own, it's probably due to heat. 1st thing clean up the cpu fan and make sure there is no dust between him and the metal heat conductor thing underneath (don't know the english way of sayig "dissipateur thermique") If that isn't enough do what people already suggested, go buy a knew fan or go make sure ths one is working properly
