Is there a thread about the bnet alternative servers? I remember there were a lot of them, FSGS (free starcraft game server, later free standard game server) comes to mind, if I got it right, the guy/s behind FSGS later did a multiplayer server for a little knows RTS called "Submarine Titans". Then I remember PGTour and the last one and the "official" Iccup. I remember the early days of FSGS when one could use a chat client to connect to FSGS server and send a very long message to a player crashing his BW thus disconnecting him. There were more exploits I think. Anyone knows the whole story?

There was Gamei as well, can't forget that, my favorite ladder of all time. It was before PGT.

There were over 300 private servers in China only during BW's peak. Almost each city had at least its own server. We even had a software tool to edit directly the servers list without going into Windows' registry.

Slightly off-topic, but is that where White-ra got his iccup ID Gameitoss?

Yeah WGT was just played on Europe lol
PGT was the first english private server that was popular, (that I ever heard of at least, didn't really start playing competitive until then) But gamei was around before that

haha, I think July was originally scouted because he was good on Gamei...
also, BW never used Kali, did it? I guess BNet already existed before it came out...

neogamei was the first foreign competitive non bnet ladder, which used the gamei name for popularity. That's how I remember it anyway, it did have a lot of koreans on it so maybe it was actually Korean. I remember it being in english though.
Then PGT, then TheAbyss which later turned into iccup. There was also a polish server Netwars
Anyone remember the gosugamers launcher thing? It was hyped as "carrier" I think, there was huge drama around it and apparently it was really terrible. Didn't TL have something very similar too?
