Keep any SC2 vs BW comments out of this thread. This is a thread about Brood War and Esports (Tekken Crash, Special Forces, etc) in general. If you discuss what this means for ESPORTS be sensitive about it.

it's literally not a "national sport" in the sense of a "national anthem" or "national flower" or "national animal." the govt won't care...

Korea even put Flash in the G20 summit video. eSport is their honor and culture. I bet the government will do something if it really dies.

yeah hate to say it but modern kpop is pretty bad. and i'm korean.

u should listen to some old school songs, kpop used to actually be good. actually that reminds me, this isn't kpop but i just heard jay chou's "listen to mother's words" and it's pretty bomb, even if i can't understand a thing he's saying!

Basically, the management is still discussing this. They haven't made a decision whether or not to proceed with this. Even if they decide to proceed, they still have to seek the approval of the Korean Communications Commission (govt body) if they want to change the gaming channel into a music channel.

Yeah, if MBCGame wanted reactions, they definitely got them.

Looks like the Korean fans want to run over to Mullaedong LOOX HERO Center and voice their protests! I hope that the public outcries are loud enough to convince the KCC to decline the changes!

From those that know - what is the feeling in Korea? Is interest in BW dwindling? Is it generally accepted it will die out over the next few years? What is the reaction to these announcements?

Korean eSports/BW fans/netizens are shocked and OUTRAGED at the news, and Korean interest in BW is definitely not dwindling at all. In fact, more interest may be generated by the news happening right now. It is definitely not generally accepted that BW is going to die out soon amongst Korean eSports fans, and almost every single Korean eSports fan out there is not willing to accept it if it happens. BW is still very popular in Korea today and gets many viewers for live broadcasts on TV.

My 4000th post in this thread of all threads... *Sadface* Oh well.

OK, the passion among converted followers remains high, as expected in those who understand the depth and beauty of this wonderful game. How about recruiting new followers? Are the kids still playing BW?

Sure, there's 34,000 people on fish server right now (Wednesday evening). And there's still Brain server, which I'm not sure what the numbers are but they're pretty high too.

Not a fun way to start the day, so many bad things been going around BW recently, I hope the heroes get picked up by a new sponsor so we can see them together even without MBC.

Hmm. As someone who is mainly into SC2 and mostly hear stuff about it from that side, most of what I've heard is that SCBW is still huge in Korea and that SCBW players are stars on a completely different level compared to SC2. I thought the SCBW scene was as living as ever. Is that not the case? Or is the gaming scene as a whole in Korea (both SCBW and SC2) getting smaller and less exposure?

somehow I feel that the Chinese might buy the MBC game commentators..launch their own BW channel, and make a cross country proleague with teams from both countries come up.
