Keep any SC2 vs BW comments out of this thread. This is a thread about Brood War and Esports (Tekken Crash, Special Forces, etc) in general. If you discuss what this means for ESPORTS be sensitive about it.

Excuses. The "west" didn't care about e-sports at all five years ago. 99.99% of Americans still don't, and that leaves enough to support a bunch of 100k tournaments.
We don't need to convert "the west". We only need to convert maybe 70 or 80 thousand people, worldwide, over a few years. That's actually not all that hard.
Start posting about BW on your facebooks (or myspaces, or whatever). Post links to VODs of good games. Pretty much every friend I have has at least a passing knowledge of the SC2 scene because I post shit about it on facebook and talk about it at work (a co-worker is also into it. I'm not "that guy"). Invite people over to OSL viewing parties. Be Nerd Mormons (since you believe in the original BW, does that make you nerd Jews and SC2 fans Nerd Christians? I don't think this metaphor works, but I'm running with it anyway).
Don't take this as a defeat, take it as a rallying cry.

BW fans DO NOT GIVE A FUCK ABOUT THAT!
When the hell will people stop making stupid threads and comments a blogs and whatever other crap about "how good would it be if Bisu switched OMG" or "why is it so bad it will make SC2 better I can't wait!! ". It's so damn tiring to have to fend off these clueless noobs who have been around for five minutes and already feel like their opinion is worth a damn.
Wish they'd all take their single collective IQ point and stick it. Ridiculous. There is not replacement. BW should not and must not die.

viewer numbers are still very strong, but it seems kpop viewers are stronger or something, otherwise I don't understand why they're doing this.

Yeah, if MBCGame wanted reactions, they definitely got them.
Looks like the Korean fans want to run over to Mullaedong LOOX HERO Center and voice their protests! I hope that the public outcries are loud enough to convince the KCC to decline the changes!
From those that know - what is the feeling in Korea? Is interest in BW dwindling? Is it generally accepted it will die out over the next few years? What is the reaction to these announcements?
Korean eSports/BW fans/netizens are shocked and OUTRAGED at the news, and Korean interest in BW is definitely not dwindling at all. In fact, more interest may be generated by the news happening right now. It is definitely not generally accepted that BW is going to die out soon amongst Korean eSports fans, and almost every single Korean eSports fan out there is not willing to accept it if it happens. BW is still very popular in Korea today and gets many viewers for live broadcasts on TV.
My 4000th post in this thread of all threads... *Sadface* Oh well.
OK, the passion among converted followers remains high, as expected in those who understand the depth and beauty of this wonderful game. How about recruiting new followers? Are the kids still playing BW?
I am very sure that BW gains many new players in Korea amongst kids every day. BW still remains as a popular game to play in PC Bangs, and almost every single Korean out there knows what Starcraft is if you mention it to them. With Starcraft being almost general knowledge in Korea, this surely generates interest and curiosity amongst kids to play a popular game. Plus kids like watching TV in general, so they will most likely notice some live BW matches going on while channel surfing.
All most all the boys at my elementary school know Starcraft and talk about starcraft and I'm guessing a lot of them play it too. My after school classes are always trying to get me to talk about Starcraft because they know its their best bet of distracting me and disrupting the lesson. One of the boys is always going on about how awesome stats is for some reason. pretty sure theres a big youth roots following still. Haven't been to a P.C Bang recently but I've never been in one and not seen someone playing broodwar somewhere.
i can't believe this happening. If Broodwar ends that’s largely the end of E sports. No other game is remotely as popular. They are never gonna keep that huge Esports stadium in Yongsan open just for sudden attack and kart rider. Thoughs games are literally just there as something to fill the time when Broodwar's not on.
edit: sport for game, obvious theres actual proper sports more popular

it's literally not a "national sport" in the sense of a "national anthem" or "national flower" or "national animal." the govt won't care...
Korea even put Flash in the G20 summit video. eSport is their honor and culture. I bet the government will do something if it really dies.
They did? Wow. I have a bit more hope in the KCC then. And you nailed it on the head. In Korea, eSports is not only "serious business", but also a part of Korean culture.

As someone who is mainly into SC2 and mostly hear stuff about it from that side, most of what I've heard is that SCBW is still huge in Korea and that SCBW players are stars on a completely different level compared to SC2. I thought the SCBW scene was as living as ever. Is that not the case? Or is the gaming scene as a whole in Korea (both SCBW and SC2) getting smaller and less exposure?
That is indeed the case, and this is why everyone here and in Korea thinks this is completely unwarranted and out of the blue.
Saddest news ever. K-pop should be considered a crime against our civilisation, and despised just as we despised boyz and girlz bands in the nineties.
I love broodwar so much This is going to be hell for Proleague, I hope that Kespa will find a solution. I also pray for the future of the MBC Hero team.

That's great to hear! Looks like BW is still going strong in Korea after all. And lol at your Stats fanboy student. I visited Seoul about 3 years ago so that was before SC2 was released, but man I saw a ton of people playing BW in PC Bangs. You'd go in there and see a whole row of guys with mostly glasses playing BW. It was a beautiful sight to behold.
Well, I wish all of you BW fans the best of luck. I never watched BW like I said earlier in the thread, but I realize how important it is for eSports. Hopefully this thing falls through and BW lives on. So from a SC2 fan, BW fighting!!!
I never followed the BW scene, but this sounds like one of the many questionable decisions MBC has made lately on their drama channels. They have been cancelling TV-series which were very promising, putting a lot of money into TV-series which flopped pretty badly. I don't know if they changed their execs or something, but considering how MBC is being run lately something smells fishy.

Yes, they changed some of their execs. The parent company is poorly run, what can I say.
