Starleague 2011 has announced their sponsor, Jin Air, a young airline company. Starleague 2011 will officially take flight with Jin Air from the round of 16 on July 13th opened by a team kill match between Fantasy and Soo.
Jin Air Starleague 2011 will be broadcasted live on OGN every Wednesday and Friday at 7:30.
Jin Air is a subsidiary of Korean Airlines that brands itself as casual and young. JinAir's representative, Shin Sang Wook commented that "Jin Air's slogan, Fly Better Fly, emphasizes innovation and youth. We're happy to be able to sponsor the Starleague, the representative relic of the culture of the younger generation who is filled with passion. We will spend whatever the Starleague needs to be the most amazing tournament that is suited to the dynamic and youthful e-Sports fans."
Furthermore, he added that "Through this, I hope we will be able to communicate with the younger generation, and through vibrant communications we hope that this will be a strong way of letting people know of Jin Air".

the slogan isnt retarded, its simply a reference to me. in fact im actually much better than all the Korean pros and jinair knows this, and their slogan is an attempt to encourage me to go to Korea and own everyone, saying i better fly out there in time to make a cameo appearance in this osl, emerging victorious an taking the esports world by storm as the only gay canadian to ever win a star league (gi yom is probably gay but suspicions were never confirmed) In recent news, my penis grew and it is now 2.5 inches long. Also i saw a cat today. Jaedong fighting~~~~ ^.~
Fly Better Fly is the worst slogan I've ever heard. I can't believe there are still new airline companies coming out despite they're clear lack of profitability and sustainability being subsidized by governments.

how does that work? everyone on this forum always feels the need to say how much more prestigious the osl is after all
and since when does more prestigious mean more money?
I think thats an SC2 thing.
Definitely not. Otherwise the NASL would be the most prestigious SC2 tournament.
@Motivate OSL is more prestigious because it's been around for longer. It also has gotten bigger sponsors, although that might be only a recent phenomenon. Prize money is not something the BW scene really cares about since top progamers are paid respectable salaries.
GOM Intel Classic (I forget which season) had a monstrous bankroll cause Blizzard matched the payout, yet the matches weren't even on official/standard record or whatever KesPA keeps around.
Anyway, awesome sponsor. I would think one look at the groups would turn the sponsors away, heh.

Yes I remember Tasteless always talking about how Intel Classic had the most prize money in Korea, yet most teams didn't care to have their players practice in it.
OSL: even one-time winners automatically become legends (Reach, Anytime, GGplay, etc.) MSL: where bonjwas happened... until random Zerg winners came along.

well, historically, the msl has been won by the better players, but the osl had the better and more dramatic stories to tell. but still bigfile msl has been the best starleague of the past 2 years..... no osl came even close to the epicness that were the semis and finals of bigfile...
anyways, im glad that the current osl finally found a sponsor.
So this is the OSL, right? Should have put that instead of "Starleague" or at least mentioned it in the OP. When I read Starleague I had no idea which league is actually meant, I thought it might be Proleague at first, lol.

Starleague always refers to individual leagues and usually to the OSL.

OSL has been around longer and had more interesting tournaments. I think the MSL bumped their prize money above OSL's to try to offset that, but it didn't work and people still care more about the OSL than the MSL.

msl has been 50k ever since the format got changed to 32 players (gom tv s2). osl has, and always will be 16. do note that prize money for 1st was like 20k back in 2005.

No, starleague always refers to OSL, never to MSL. It's trademarked by OGN.
The SL in MSL stands for (MBCGame) Starcraft League.
Im guessing this has been said like a thousand times already but just in case, I´m hoping for another Hangar-final! It was so awesome, I had the greatest nerdchills when the players entered the scene and the camera panned out so you could se how freaking huge the venue was!
Hey don't hate on their slogan, like they said, it sorks wonderfully in appealing to the younger generations. Or should we say youngest...
AH! Finally! Hey at least they have a sponsor, and one thing I know for sure is that if I am EVER to fly to Korea, I already know which airlines to surrpot!
I am happy that we have an OSL sponsor, and a baller OSL to come!
I do have to say that the company seems kind of dumb.
"JinAir is a subsidiary of Korean Airlines that brands itself as casual and young."
Who the hell would care if an airline is focused on younger people, how many young people go ticket shopping based on what seems young and hip. O well, I hope for an awesome OSL!
"Fly better Fly"... grammatically incorrect and therefore nonsensical. Not sure how that translates to "innovative" and "young". They could rephrase it so it'd at least make sense: "Better fly fly", but I'm not convinced this would entirely save the day.

Pretty sure it's "Fly Better Fly -JinAir-"... makes much more sense =-)

O_O cannot unsee.
still having a sponsor is better than not having a sponsor.
I think this is the answer to the slogan riddle.
Fly better fly = Fly butterfly?
This is exactly it actually. It's designed this way on purpose because 'better fly' sounds like 'butterfly', especially in Korean English. And the logo is obviously designed to be a butterfly/plane.

for those who didn't know JinAir before,
it advertises itself as focusing on younger people because it provides much cheaper seating for near-domestic flights than other airlines like korean air or asiana. it's kinda like southwest but cheaper so that even young people without much money can fly to places near korea too.
of course, being cheaper means it benefits poor adults too but it's better for the airline's image to say it brands itself as "casual and young" than itself as "for the poor"

Technically, osl is the only starleague. Msl is starcraft league. People often refer to both as starleagues though for simplicity's sake. If someone says a player has never won a star league, they likely mean the player has never won an osl OR msl.

That's weird because I've seen people refer to the leagues as "Individual leagues"
It's both, Tenhou. People are not drones that follow 1 supreme hive mind. When most people say "Starleague" or "SL" they usually are referring to the OSL and MSL combined. But there are also a lot of people who realize that this is technically incorrect, and only say "Individual Leagues".
That being said. the MSL is more prestigious than the OSL now-a-days. In my opinion of course. Unless you think random = better.

It's more so the Koreans that refer to it as individual leagues, whilst foreigners refer to them as starleagues.

I dont think so man.. I mean look at MSL: It has the best commentators, best show factor, rank based play offs to guarantee good semis & finals: and legendary Kim Chul Min also hosting finals gives it a real aura that OSL lacks. Because its a big deal, even at proleague matches when you see that MBC channel is showing game, you know you gonna get good rollercoaster and the casters are gonna go apeshit at stuff going on.

basically koreans (and i myself also) think the very opposite, especially in reference to the bolded portions
@xarthasz MBC's caster are just more noisy than OGN caster when I listen to OGN casters I think they talk more deeply about the game rather than shouting over a zergling killing a drone. If only I understand korean...
OSL was delayed for the MyStarleague thing (the open tournament). Was a waste having it take 3 months though seeing as how all the rookies that qualified went 0-2 anyway (it was useful as a scouting tool, but still shouldn't have delayed the OSL by so much imo).

exactly what the other guy above me said, we koreans prefer the osl commentators ( deeper, more entertaining, and not just AHHHHH KANG MINNNNNNN over and over), the finals stage is always grander, and has that certain aura the msl lacks when the winner wins that gold.

No I think MSL has better commentators than OSL, especially w/ Lee Seung "Wonjwa" (who was voted best commentator by the Korean community). However, if we add in OGN's ex-progamer commentators to the mix, then i think OGN has the better commentators, but those 3 don't ever cast for OSL anyways. I like watching MBCGame/MSL a lot more than OGN/OSL, but I do think OSL is more prestigious for a variety of reasons, like always having the better sponsors, overall more difficult to win, smaller group stages, etc etc.
Huh, for some reason I was always under the impression that only 1st and 2nd place got any money in the individual leagues. Always thought that was weird, and it wasn't even true, lol
On July 16 2011 05:02 white_horse wrote: one big reason why OSL is considered more prestigious is because it's older

In Korean culture? Pretty much. We westerners may not respect our elders but countries like Korea certainly do. Hyung, noona, oppa, bowing to your elders etc. etc.
