I'm working on a mini Spanish assignment and was wondering how some terms in Starcraft are said in Spanish. Such as "Build Order," "units," "hotkeys," "supply block," "walling," sim-city," and other starcraft related definitions. Thanks!

Well, everything I've learnt about Starcraft (and it's not a lot) I learnt it in this awesome site. I believe most people who play Starcraft in Chile knows the terms in Spanish or does not know them at all.
Note that terms like "sim-city" can not be translated.
What's a quote anyway?

haha well i guess i'll have to use google translate? I just wanted to make sure that i was using the right word to describe the terms. such as units = unidados in google translate. However can unidados be used to explain units? since fighting units, and metric units are different...

Yeah, word for word it wont make much sense. Supply blocking and walling would be weird for sure. I'm fairly certain they do it like the Germans where it's Genglish because the literal translations sound very weird. My spanish is very poor, but that's atleast how you do it in Slovak.

Edit: And I think you should use "soldiers" for units, because like you said, many words don't have the same meaning in that regard, and even if they do, it sounds akward... So saying army etc will sound better.

Some terms don't have translations or are not trasnlated.

Hotkeys is used as the same, the literal translation would be "atajos" or "atajos rapidos".

units = unidades (used)

I know some spanish users translated BW terms, like Zerglings = curros (something like chinese people, who give unit nicknames). But the majority of the people use the original names and english terms for almost everything except for maybe "units" or variations and spanization of certan verbs "to push" -> "pushear" , "to micro" -> "micrear" but those wouldn't make sense to a spanish teacher since they are not actual words.

Hope it helps.

Literal translations:
[Build Order] Orden de Construcción
[Hotkeys] Teclas calientes
[Supply Block] Bloque de Suministro
[Wall] Pared
[Wall-in Barricade] Barrera
[Sim-City] Ciudad "Sim"

Like IntoTheWow said, in Spanish, anglicismos (words taken from English) are used because there is no real term for many of these. I don't recommend using these in a Spanish class without indicating beforehand you've done your research though.

If this help, we have kinda our own terms for each thing, most of them aren literal translations but just slang used for it.

BO- Apertura (which is opening)
Hotkey- Control (like the key in the Kboard)
Units- Unidades (simple translation)
Supply block- We use a slang here, we say "Te cogio el supply" which translates to something like "you were caught by the supply" (we say this for every race)
Walling- Trancar ("lock" would be the literal translation)
Simcity - We just say sim

helpfull?
I could get a more coherent article by gluing a Sharpie to a dog's cook and letting it hump the page.

Oh man was going to put some but realized they have already all been put in previous posts, like some before has said, its impossible to literally translate most of the words to spanish, since those are terms that the spanish language has no capacity to express in a word for word translation, literal translations will leave you confused and contextualized translations are usually whole phrases or at least several words that try to encompass the meaning of the english word, but still kind of fall short anyway.

I live in China now. It us funny that their commentators call wraithes as planes, starport as airport, supply depots as houses and limit as population

Maybe you'll find better luck asking in a SC2 forum since the game has actually been translated to Spanish... In Brood War the only "term" that is actually used is "Unidades" (units).

I wanna see a post from the translation team. They'll probably know what the terms should be, to make sense, of course.

there are so many synonyms, homonyms, and overlapping terms that translating properly is pain in the ass. For example, the english word for clock is just "clock", but the french term for clock is either Pendule or Horlogue, the latter being an unspecific clock and the former being a clock with a pendulum. Languages are funky that way. French speakers probably think it weird that we DON'T specify those two

You just cannot go literal. Rather, look for equivalent terms; what oo_xerox provided is a good starting point. Apertura for BO is a great example. it's also the word for opening in chess.

Something you need to keep in mind is that with information traveling so fast with the Internet, it's very likely that the original word is simply borrowed or modified (anglicism) rather than translated. This is something you should note in your paper.

I'd suggest looking for Spanish language forums and guides.

The persons who have posted are all from south america so im going to give my translations as accurate as possible as how i would say them in spain.
Most people use english terms or some sort of spanglish as other users explained

BO- Apertura
Hotkey- Atajo or atajo rapido
Units- Unidades
Supply block- Bloqueo de suministros (supplies) or bloqueo de poblacion (population, as used in other RTS)
Walling- Cerrar (close), encerrarse (to close yourself?)
Simcity - Really don't know how to translate this one

this is how i would do it:

hotkey: tecla rápida
wall-in (verb): amurallar
wall-in/wall (noun) muralla/muro
scouting: reconocimiento
macro/micro are said the same way usually

the terms for some units in sc2 spanish are kind of silly, such as persecutor (chaser? prosecutor?) for stalker, obrero (worker) for drone.

in addition, most of the terms in spanish are harder to say than the english ones, since spanish vocabulary is slightly more complex (at least for gaming)
supply/psi/etc. is usually called comida, población or suministro

Most of the terms dont have a translation because ppl dont play SC seriosly
Also there is no SC spanish community so
I think they have diferents terms according where you live
Hotkeys: Controls
BO: Apertura
Walling: Cerrarse, encerrarse
To Rush: Rushear
Supply block: Estar en rojo (In the red)
To micro: Micrear (O.o)
Also some of the units have nicknames but thats it...

Why dont you check this guy Nonakiz channel in youtube
He did some SC spanish commentaries acouples years ago
But if I remember right he used english terms
