Hmmmmm, Giyom is 21, Boxer is like 25 years old? If you read the interview, Giyom happily admits that he can't compete with the the new younger generation of korean bw players. Giyom will always be one of the main players responsible for the huge sc boom in Korea, he will forever be a legend.

the only starcraft players that i have ever truely admired were zileas and Grr , they just won everything in their eras , i couldent care less about korean leagues etc , seems OTT

it seriously hurts me when I think about Boxer getting old and slow
Giyom, too

Age only effects them because they become less committed to hardcore gaming practices.. younger people hold the advantage because they have the energy and willingness to play. I think Grrrr could still be one of the top players, in my mind its just his mentality toward the game that keeps him from doing so..

Yeah you're completely right, what giyom lacks is not youth itself but motivation to train 12 h a day

If General Patton was as old as he was on the battle field, you could theoretically play SC until you die. Besides, Nada said he wanted to be the first to be a 30 year old progamer. And Boxer is older than Grrr. there's nothing theoretical about playing bw at an advanced age. the patton reference is ridiculous as he didn't move armies with a mouse on a 2 dimensional plane. who cares what nada says, fuck that little shit. he is good at bw though. yes, boxer is older than grrrr. Is operating a mouse and keyboard and using one's strategical mind that demanding? My point with Patton was, which you ceased to see, is that he was a strategist at a very high age. Ok, so you can be a strategist at a high age. Now, you can also operate a mouse and a keyboard at a high age. You can play SC at a high age.
you can be a strategist at a very high age but i really doubt you can play bw at a competitive level. You are talking about the mouse keyboard aspect as if it was just like playing Diablo ^^ Stracraft demands huge reflexes and concentration, that's why i think ppl cannot play professional BW at a high age.

he was right about "hate losing helps you get better i am sure"

why bother? dude is about 4x dumber and 10x more stubborn that you are
he'll come back and say "strategical thought blah blah patton, more important than blah blah. patton did this, that and the other, so why can't grrrr? motivation, blah blah, strategy > universe. patton played bw, bitch!"

hmm quality of posts on this board is declining faster than grrr..'s skill level T_T

Personally I think Grrrr...'s comments about age and this game are wrong. It just seems to me he and many other players who got a bit older were bored with having to practice and wanted to pursue social activities(Partying, etc) which led to them losing more and more until they fell into relative obscurity. Boxer might not be dominating at the moment but he is surely one of the top players, he made it into the OSL once again, and I don't think this will be his last time, he is older than Grrrr(If I am not mistaken) so how is Grrrr... not just making excuses for himself?
|
I didn't find any mention of retirement in the article. Does this fella Swarmz have any credibility?
|
It's sad, but grrr.. hasn't really been competing for some time now. I hope he will be around @ sc2 or something. :-)
And I think Grrr's age comments aren't exactly right too, when you're under 17 your strategical mind isn't good enough, he's right about that. But the over 23 comment seems soooo bullshit too me, if you keep playing a lot you won't lose speed. It's just that players lose the drive to play anymore after so long. But I'm sure they can find it again in a new game.
