The story seems to have changed(?) a little, or maybe Korean reporters are just inconsistent. But apparently, the Proleague will start on October 16th. The reporter is interpreting this as they set a date only because the negotiations have the potential for going well.
According to an industry insider, the negotiations regarding payment for IP rights have the foundations set and so it can be solved rather easily. The problem right now is apparently about the right to broadcast, choosing broadcasting station, and the schedule of the games, and so they're negotiating regarding that.
The reporter also implies that the start date could be a lot later, and in worst case scenario, the Proleague will not start. I'm not quite sure what happened to the "going on with Proleague regardless" bit but the story seems to have changed now.
Hell yeah. Looking forward to watching some BW. Hopefully all goes well as I am indeed quite lost as to what is going on now. Any news on potential individual leagues ?
Wow, really good news and really worrying news all in one... and in the same bit of news oO.
October 16th is not so far away and I'm really pumped for the PL start! Right now I just don't want to worry about it possibly not starting at all. I just hope they get on with negotiations and get it over with. Good thing they do negotiate again, though. Hm... wonder what's the real story behind all that, when the reports are so inconsistent (so is my post oO)
I'm so pumped for proleague, I hope it goes ahead. I'm most excited to see where all the estro players go, I've loved watching Action grow into a formidable player and I want to see where he'll continue his career (if he does).
The very second I get confirmation that Gretech has successfully negotiated for the continuance of BW, I will buy a season ticket for GSL 2. I like watching SC2, but, atleast from me, they'll be making a little money if they can give the handshake to BW.
I'm definitely having withdrawals at this point. I hope it doesn't take any longer than this, but at the same time I'm going to be a bit upset if they have to cave into Gretech's demands and change the way they operate just so SC2 can get preferential treatment.

I feel the same way somewhat, but October can't come soon enough and I need my BW fix.

Same. No desire to play, plenty of desire to watch.
On September 28 2010 22:38 gds wrote: great news, but do we already know who might be the sponsor?
I really hope they switch to SC2 next season though. BW is a good game and all but it is way outdated and to stale, same build orders every game unless someone go for a risky build, aka BW doesn't go forward now imo. SC2 is still evolving and is imo way way better to watch (and play) with better graphics and with all the new tools for observing that improve the veiwers understanding on what is happening. Also I know that SC2 is not as balanced as BW and doesn't have the best players yet, but that will come.
But it's good all in all that they can come to an agreement, but imo they should put BW to rest before the BW pro scene falls apart too much. Imo SC2 is more fun to watch and I would really like to see JD, Flash and Bisu taking on SC2. Also, I have no doubt that GSL onwards will improve both from the players sides and from the production. So it will only be better.
I love Proleague, I miss Blood War tournaments so much But October is where all of my midterm exams are clumped, urgh, I want it to be October soon but I desperately do not want it to be October for a while so all sanity break down wtf am i saying
Lets hope for a PL start at prime time, after watching like 100 top games of SC2 including some GSLs I cant take that pain to my eyes anymore, as an e-spectator BW is the only that can get you thrill about a video game.
It is good news, and if they can negotiate it will be even better having the GSL and Proleague to watch. GSL is only going to get better and better as the players develop more builds.
Nothing wrong with more Starcraft. Proleague, GSL and hopefully they can negotiate MSL's and OSL's.
It is always fun when we get to make our FPL teams and use liquibet again!
Yay for positive news, except for that last part about the worst case scenario. But definitely hyped about PL. Actually just as hyped as I was for this season of the NFL and the 49ers, except hopefully Woongjin Stars won't go 0-3 to start their season :[
september really is the worst month every year I need BW T_T every night I check my calendar hoping for some live matches. COME ON COME CLOSER OCTOBER!
the teams are very different now proleague will be very interesting but im sad about the losses the coaches, the players, this season will be very strange...
so, if they decide to not run proleague this year, for whatever reason, what are the odds that OGN and MBCGame still run OSL and MSL respectively, or maybe GOMtv will do another Classic?
I am hoping the tone of this article is the truth. It would a great thing if they could improve their relationship and the state of the negotiations. The entire scene (SC1/2) suffers if Kespa and GOM fights on.
I'm usually just a lurker, but I signed in to post my support for PL! Thanks for the translation, and am definitely heartened to hear the good news. I feel like BW can use the support from every person they can get.

This. In a world with bw's potential death looming overhead, these updates have been really great to read, especially brighter news like this. Thanks Milkis!
The reporter is interpreting this as they set a date only because the negotiations have the potential for going well.
Does this mean that he knows that they're going well and that's why they set a date or that they set a date and he's guessing that means they're going well?

On September 28 2010 19:58 kOre wrote: I need my BW ... GSL is good and all but it just doesn't cut it for me
My sentiments exactly
I'll triple that sentiment. I'm enjoying the GSL, but a lot of the games just aren't that good because the players aren't that good yet. But with BW, the players are freaking amazing. I wanna see some high level BW being played again! I just hope the individual leagues start up again soon too.
There's just too much SC2 games for me to be interested in. Over-saturation is making me a bit bored with SC2 since it is everywhere and always on. I miss BW since there is zero BW activity right now.
Finally KESPA realized that being stubborn would just kill both games. smart move caving in a little bit to the people with all the legal backing. this way we get to watch more BW ^^ yay.
So I guess this means KESPA is conceding? I swear if brood war moves later into the night (morning)... I'm gonna be pissed. They better keep their time or go earlier!
I didn't get any indication from the OP that BW will be relinquishing it's prime time slot. And it shouldn't BW owes nothing to SC2, in fact the it's the reverse.

Hopefully they can work something out so Proleague gets renewed.
Both SC:BW and SC2 eSport goodness would be awesome. The GSL is still young but has a lot of potential. (Especially after seeing Cool play) And with any luck Proleague will learn a little from GOMtv and make the games officially available to people outside Korea.
I'm hoping that they can co-exist because I want to watch both leagues. Also, I wouldn't mind paying to watch the Proleague either.
Yes..finally some good news! really looking forward to next season and the impact Kwanro will (or will not) have on SK! Sick of hearng about sc2 all the time.

Correct me if I'm wrong but Proleague, OSL, MSL + other unofficial matches. I can download and watch all of these vods for free. Whilst for GSL i have to pay to be able to download the vods?
I cannot wait for the new season. When SC1 is in full swing with mad matches every week between the 2 leagues and proleague it becomes my # 1 source of entertainment. I end up on youtube more than TV books movies anything combined at that point in the season. can't wait.

To correct you because you are wrong, the key word was "officially", that being with english casting and an official mode of delivery for non koreans.
We watch proleague and osl + msl through random streams and uploads, and unofficial english casting.

Your right ... if it ain't in english it ain't official...
this lack of news is annoying. if it was going to go on the 16th, surely we'd know by now? do they not have tv guide in korea or something that says what's on ogn on saturday?
Hell It's about time !! Can't wait for the ggaaaaames
No official english casting please, what would you need casting for anyways - korean is 5 times better and enjoyable than english and it fits with the proleague and korean matches perfectly. And no, proleague has nothing to learn from GSL...other way around more likely
Can't wait for the new music that'll be played between matches... I always hate it at first, but after the season finishes I download and listen to it and nostalgia hard.

I was listening to pandora yesterday when this song came up, and made me pissed that there isn't any broadcasted starcraft right now.

Hahah yes, exactly. I sometimes use old proleague music when I'm playing, shit gets so engrained in my head, and I tend to associate the music with Starcraft.
Most likeyly this Proleague is not gonna happen unless some miraculous agreement happens between KESPA and Gretech. One of the rumors circulating the scene right now is that the KESPA found a sponsor for the league but that sponsor will only buck up if the league has approval of Bliizard/Gretech, which is not happening.
PS: Gretech also announced that if KESPA do go along with the event, it will sue KESPA's ass.

If this is true, I seriously wish someone would bomb GOMTV's building, not even fuckin joking. I am so damn pissed off and tired of GOM trying to kill BW, why can't the just let MBC air the goddamn games, they didn't even violate any of GOM's rules. I have been waiting these two whole goddamn month to see live Starcraft Progaming again, and if GOM stops it from airing I will motherfuckin explode

You should mail yourself to GOMTV then. Problem solved.
As I was reading this news my mom from the other room looked at me and asked "Why are you smiling?" and I was like "Am I smiling?" and then looked at the mirror and I was....I didn't even realize it.
(@official_KeSPA) SHINHAN BANK Pro League will be finally opened on this Sat. (Oct. 16). Detailed things including match-ups will be unveiled on tomorrow. ^^
I cannot wait for sweet ol' Proleague to start again! Please do not be angry with me when I say I want to watch BOTH Proleague and GSL 2; a taste of both worlds cannot hurt at all even if I hate Blizzard (too much). Ooooh yes! Bring on the Starleagues too... hopefully.

Noone is angry about that, you silly person. In fact, I'm even rejoicing with you and giving GSL another try.
Been checking the TL calendar once or twice a week for what feels like a month, trying to find some proleague on there amidst all the SC2. Great to see that the off season is coming to a close.
And the 16th is my brother's birthday, too. How amusing.

Yep, me too. :D The second I know that Proleague will survive (I'm still not entirely convinced that there won't be a law suit if they start) I will end my boycott and buy SC2 and a GSL premium thingy. ^__^
