I've wondered this for awhile but never bothered to ask. What is the correct way to hotkey and micro marines and medics? I have tried hotkeying marines and medics together as well as in separate groups. When I put them together and send the marines in to attack. The medics just rush forward in front of the marines, leaving them to die. The other way I've tried is sending in marines with one hotkey, sending the meds to marine area and pressing stop, allowing them to heal. This seemed to long. Whenever I see see pros or really good people they seem to move all in one group but with the medics following right alongside the marines healing them all the time. How is this done? I think this is one reason why my TvZ sucks...

if u have them all in the same group ud have to ctrl+click a marine or marine wireframe before stimming then. or to a little box and try not to get any medics. to move just the medics, same thing. putting them in different groups would seem to make these things easier. dont know how ur supposed 2 do it, id like to know 2

I might be an ass..but how hard is it to figure out how to use marines? Why would you group your marines and meds in 1 group so you can't stim? and your medics are dying because they are going ahead? Maybe click them backwards if they are walking into battle and dying? lol

If you want your medics to stick to your marines, just 1a2a3a and stim when you run into enemy units so they go straight to healing your marines

It is actually really easy.

Just simple, start of game as example.

Maines - 1
Medics - 2

So you engage some zerglings, and move to attack.

1-t-a-right click THEN 2-a-right click

"A" is attack for marines and Heal for medics. To stop medics from charging off ahead of ur marines, hit "T" for stim, so they turn back and start healing ur rines.
To micro, move the marines at the front of the group to the back. And repeat until enemy units are dead.
That is many tank? Yes?

Do what that guy above said, and spread your marines vs lurkers, and target them with shift click ^_^

Keep marines and medics in separate groups. When they get into combat, make sure you do NOT have both groups just A-clicked on the other side of whereever you're going - this will result in the medics charging forward and moving to that spot, while the marines are left behind because of their ranged attack, and die. Make sure that when combat starts, you keep the medics "attack-moved" to where the marines actually are.

I actually liked using Terran m&m when I used to play around in BW for fun. What Sir Alex says is pretty much what you gotta do.

Head up against Lurkers, try to keep your rines spread apart, to make the Lurker do as little/no splash damage as possible.
And keep them controled in separate groups, I usually went with 1-3 all marines, and 4 as my medics, and when in battle I just made sure the medics were spread around them. Using attack + A click works, but you have to set back the medics, or manually move them in battle.

Not if you press "a" - for attack, as he wrote.

if they can be stim->moved to where they can all fire together, do so.
if not, stim->spread them laterally so they don't stumble around.
you want them all shooting.
if they are in a clump when you are fighting lurkers, that is bad.

why would you want your medics in front of your rines?
so they can obstruct the path when you need to do something decisive in battle i.e. run up a ramp?

the only reason to have meds in front is mega late game vs ling/ultra.

and ling/ultra will autogg your ass 9 times out of 10.
so there is no real reason to have meds in front.

Don't you want medics in front vs lings any time? I find it more efficient to micro my lings to hit the marines than attack medics.

another reason to keep you medics hotkeyed separate is partly because when you are running away, you have to force-move medic or they will drag your ass healing sick marines. big obstacle that moves

Most pro gamers dont make firebats, thats why they lose so often to lings and ultra. Thats the real problem.
keep your friends close but your enemies closer.

your a dumbass, m&m comes up against ling/ultra you stim marines and run behind medics so medics obstruct the lings/ultras going straight for your rines and you have a much better chance of surviving. a medic wall if you will that pretty much works anywhere on the map. MAYBE its just me but i find that thinking once in a while helps

You micro m/m differently depending on what you're microing against. For example, against sunk/ling, you actually want to manual-move your rine in so they can all shoot a sunk. If you just attack-move, the rines in front will stop to shoot the sunks while the rines in the back will run around like idiots for a couple seconds to get into front. Move them in and then attack-move if lings come running out or shift-attack the sunks.
All I want is a kind word, a warm bed, and unlimited power.

not quite. the most important use of medics in the front is vs sunkens. early game of course. later you can just use d matrix or simply tanks. =)
and let's not forget medics on ramp but that's vs ultra/ling again... --a

As posted in a different thread, it would be best to get in the habit of putting your medics on 1 so you don't have re-hotkey when you get a new group of marines.

when attacking sunks, its better to have the meds going before the rines.
