Wonder if there have been games where both was told to lose (without them knowing that both want to lose). Wonder what betting sites likes that :D

Options:

- Try to win a random PL game (probably at most 60% chance) that has a good chance of not mattering later anyway
- Lose and make $10K

This doesn't justify it but realistically you gotta expect a good number of players approached with such an offer would at least seriously consider it =(

you know, i've thought about this a bit, and i think throwing games is what happens when you don't pay your gamers enough compared to how much money the corporations are making, and treat them like shit.

I've just been lurking through rekrul's various threads and now this one, but this is the first comment that prompted me to reply. I wholeheartedly agree!

thanks :D. it's not that i'm not broken-hearted or whatever like everyone else; this is actually pretty shocking to me and it's hard to take the games tonight seriously. but i also know that the gamers aren't being treated or compensated very well, and in my day to day life i talk enough about incentives and risk-balancing to know how the equations are likely to play out for these kids...

Oh and I don't think Hwaseung Oz will pull out Jaedong even with these rumors. Wonder what happens?

While it seems absolutely certain that at least a few players cheated, I'm taking that list with a grain of salt. I doubt Flash is the only top level player not throwing games.

If even half the names are true I will be a very sad panda.

Edit: I mean how difficult is it to troll everyone and simply post every famous name in Starcraft.

I doubt Jaedong has been throwing away games, given his salary, I mean why would he? That has to be a false rumor.

Lol no respect loss from me, do what you gotta do to get money. How many of you can actually say that if someone offered you potentially thousands upon thousands of dollars to throw a game you wouldn't do it? C'monnnnnnnnnnn

You are such a douchebag.

Money isn't all there is to it, never mind that he's already making money off of doing something he should love.

Even though making 2 million dollars seems alluring, what do you really get from it if you already make 100k a year(which is already quite a bit of money, especially in korea if i understand it correctly).

2 million = 20 years at 100k/year you know. This is a pretty bad reasoning.

I guess some people are materialistic enough though to want more than 1 house and expensive cars which don't add anything. People just seem to think that money = happiness even though it isn't that simple. And selling out for the sake of being a millionaire will probably end up being a bad decision if you have any sort of decency and respect for yourself and the game you play.

Think about it, man. 2 Million is enough to live on for the rest of your life, easily. Without touching the principal. Who says he couldn't play Starcraft? He wouldn't need a job he could do whatever the hell he wanted.

I would take 2mil ez. Life is solved with 2 million if you don't fail with investing.

The issue isn't the money since everyone would take the cash but the issue is being so short sighted that you think you'll get away with it. Life isn't solved if you get busted, get thrown in jail, lose access to that cash anyway, and have a permanent scar on your record.
Well, i am assuming he was smart enough to hide the extra money from their tax system etc. I am mainly saying that to counter the morality argument of taking the mils

Ok, so youre saying he should keep 2 million dollors in his wardrobe that he never can use to buy anything substantial with? To clean that kind of money you need to be the maffia youself!

so this famous quote from sAviOr "I will destroy everyone in 2009" was just to rise the bet?!!....

Because he can earn something like $10,000 USD per thrown game? Its extremely easy for Jaedong to earn easy cash because he can just purposely fuck up his ZvZs. Due to how volatile the matchup is, he can get away with it without looking suspicious.

Its essentially free cash so why wouldn't he do this?

I didn't read the list, but is there any B and C level programers on that list? I would think they badly need the money.

Honestly being a pro-gamer might be some peoples calling, but even when you reach the absolute peak you're left with so little safety for your future it's not bizzare that some people would look for a better deal. Especially when they're really on the way out (like Savior). Maybe one day there'll be a better way out, or at least more money to retire on, and players will be less likely to. Honestly though idealism gets thrown out the window when your entire career is on such a thin line.

I'm still highly skeptical of a lot of the names on that list, but by.hero would, sadly, make a lot of sense.

I always knew he was a fucking beast, and then he starts playing like shit...T_T
