It's not like your key becomes worthless after you register the game with Blizzard. You can still use it to install a disc copy of the game. It just gives you another means to install if you don't have a disc on hand.
Also, DeSu, don't worry so much. I'm 1300 posts in, and what contributing have I done? I've just trolled and flamebaited my way around the site for the last year and have no real contribution to show for it.

You can just copy "install.exe" or something from the cd to the BW folder and rename it to "BroodWar.mpq".
Voila
Didn't know about this, thanks ! :o

Still a good guide to creating a disc image from a disc you own, even if it's not useful for BW

thanks for the guide anyway :D

i've seen posts from you like 15 times in the last couple days, and i think it's cool that you're all over the whole contributing to TL thingy, it's like a cute toddler coming to the construction site with his plastic hammer

haha thanks. out of curiousity what is the average age of a TL user? People seem more mature on here and actually type properly most of the time. Just curious, because it feels like I'm a little 5yo kid hanging around in a huge crowd.

Hate to bump this super old post but is there a way to do this without the disc? Can I just download the disc image from somewhere? I moved and I dont have a bw disc anymore (left it at home) but I have bw installed... To mods: I've been searching all over and I couldn't find an answer please dont ban ~_~

if you have your CD key registered on your battle.net account you can download broodwar from there (i own the anthology, maybe it's different if you bought SC then BW)

I'm sure there is a simpler way, but it works for me. Unfortunately my original Brood War CD is scratched beyond recognition.

To mods: I've been searching all over and I couldn't find an answer please dont ban ~_~ Yes, there are several ways. You have 3 options that I can think of off the top of my head (ordered from easiest to hardest, though they're all relatively simple):
1) Download and install from the Blizzard store. You said you already did this and it didn't work, but I'm almost positive that I've done this 4+ times and it's always worked fine. Perhaps my memory's playing tricks on me. Well, if you can't get this to work there are two solutions that I'm 100% sure work following this suggestion.
Edit: I just tested this, and it definitely works. My guess is that you already had Broodwar installed, ran the installer, and then tried to launch it. Just uninstall broodwar completely, then run the store downloaded installer, and make sure you open the installation that you installed with the installer. This is your best option and you should try this again before you start fiddling with (2) and (3), since both of those options require additional software and probably additional downloads, which is a pain, plus they require more user input time to get them working.
2) Install with CD as normal. Patch up to the latest version of Starcraft, then put your SC CD in, and find INSTALL.mpq. Copy this to your hard drive install and rename it to Starcraft.mpq. Put your BW CD in, and find INSTALL.mpq on that one. Again, copy it to your hard drive and rename it as BroodWar.mpq. Put both of the renamed .mpq files into your installed Starcraft directory folder.
If all you want to play is BroodWar online, you don't need the INSTALL.exe from original Starcraft (you only need that for the campaigns).
3) Install with CD, patch to latest version, and then mount the BroodWar disc using Daemon Tools Lite. You will first have to create an ISO image of the disk, which can be done with a tool like Alcohol 120% or UltraISO. I wouldn't recommend this option, since you have to mount the .iso before you want to play, which can sometimes be a pain--but it works.
In steps (2) and (3), you can replace "install with CD" with "install with .iso files downloaded from PirateBay and mounted with DaemonTools," if you wish (won't affect the install / CD-less play). Also note that even though you already have BW installed, you still need the disks (either in physical or .iso form) to get the INSTALL.exe files.

Sorry to go off topic, but i'm a new member and can't make my own topic.
Does anyone know where I can find the cutscenes form SC and BW? Either a torrent or a website?
NM: FOund them on youtube. Don't know what I was typing originally that didn't bring them up...
