Yeah, Bisu have been SO confident lately and maybe his win against Flash made him too confident. Flash was the only player, I believe, that Bisu was actually afraid of. Now this OSL is screwed. Damn.

The OSL is hardly screwed. imo it's nice to have more royal road candidates advancing through to the Ro16. It keeps the tournament fresh while providing for another opportunity for a player to do what only a few before him have done.
If July and Jaedong take their groups (which seems likely) Zerg will actually be the most represented race in the OSL. That would be a nice change of pace.
On January 21 2009 06:35 Tinithor wrote: Leta and By.Hero going for the royal road eh. Good stuff.
They've made it increasingly difficult to become a Royal Roader with this format, since an appearance in the Round of 36 is further away from a championship than a Round of 16 appearance.
Kal would have been a potential Royal Roader, because it is his first time into the Group Stage, but he made it to the Round of 36 last time. (same with Tester, but he has a much smaller shot than Kal in my opinion)
erm, the event calendar shows a wildcard game next wednesday. first of all, does anyone know what the heck is up with that? did someone who qualified drop out, leaving a spot open?

Backho has a serious back injury so they're holding a mini tournament to fill the empty spot because Backho won't be able to play anytime soon.
well, his chances aren't that slim... there are only three zergs there (unless jaedong joins that wildcard group), and he can beat those guys. mind and sea can be quite dangerous. i wouldn't expect him to drop games to anyone else...
sad to hear that about backho though... can anyone say what's gonna happen with his spot in gom league (or is he already eliminated there)?

He had to forfeit to JangBi, who he was going to play against in the Ro8. So JangBi basically got a free pass into the Semi-Final.
Two more zergs advanced from the last two groups. It seems like Zerg is pretty well represented this season. Let's hope the round of 4 will have more diversity then all protoss.
The only thing that could make this OSL better is perhaps replacing tester with Jangbi/free and replacing upmagic with mind/sea/firebathero (and maybe byt.hero with zero)

Why would you want to replace upmagic? His games are very entertaining.

The first two groups are confusing as hell at this point and the last two are straightforward. Can't wait for next week's games, especially want to see Yellow advance for once in a long time.
This OSL is great. So many good games already, just in the Ro16. I'm happy I have good spoiler-dodging skills (except the format still confuses me to no end)
I don't get it. Whats the difference between Bisu's group and Jaedong's group? Why Jaedong has already 100% chance to advance and GGplay is out for good but Bisu has +90% and July still has a chance? Aren't their stats the same?
Edit: Oooh, I got it. Very small difference there. Makes sense now.
MrHoon, I don't believe those brackets are right..
but if you want a flash vs jaedong finals.. he'll have to win against best, have hwasin win against upmagic... then we will get a flash jaedong finals.. assuming they beat their respective opponents in ro8 and ro4
but thats no problem, now i can ask what happens if bisu loses "on purpose". i mean it makes no sense for him to win the game as he will have to play against stork and july again i suppose?

No - Bisu has already advanced to the round of 8. If he wins, then Yellow, Stork, and July will have a three-way tiebreaker. Bisu made a promise to July to win so that July has an opportunity to win, so no doubt Bisu will be attempting to win. Should Bisu win, then both Bisu and Yellow advance to the round of 8.
Current Group A Standings are: Bisu 2-0 -> Already advanced Stork 1-2 July 1-2 Yellow 1-1
So clearly a Bisu victory would make it: Bisu 3-0 -> Advances as A1 Stork 1-2 July 1-2 Yellow 1-2
Stork, July, Yellow have three-way tiebreaker to decide who advances to round of 8, with the winner being "A2."
Should Yellow defeat Bisu: Bisu 2-1 -> Advances as A2 since he lost to Yellow Yellow 2-1 -> Advances as A1 since he defeated Bisu July 1-2 -> Eliminated Stork 1-2 -> Eliminated
On February 21 2009 03:26 Guss wrote: how will the quarterfinals look? A1vsD2 A2vsD1 B1vsC2 B2vsC1?
Which means it would be:
Bisu vs. Fantasy or Leta or Hero Fantasy or Leta or Hero vs Best
I hope this is really how it is, and if so then I really want by.hero to advance. A rematch of him vs Bisu would be hopefully epic, and I think facing Best would be kind of neat too in the sense of Best trying to avenge his loss to July in EVER2008 by taking out his protégé.
Fantasy vs either would be pretty interesting as well. Although I think him and Leta would both get smashed pretty bad by either of these guys in a series..even more reason to hope for by.hero to advance.
I'm not sure that's what the brackets are though...there seems to be a lot of confusion on the subject. A few people have indicated that the brackets are random (with the caveat that all the Ro8 matchups are some sort of 1 v 2 and you can't play the person from your own group).
Kinda hope this is wrong, I would be sad to see July and Jaedong have to play eachother. Of course, maybe I should be worrying about July even advancing before I start worrying about who he's playing... lol

Last season they did the Tiebreakers the Sunday immediately following the conclusion of Week 3. I don't know when they are this time around though (as I'm certain they aren't scheduled for today). I'd expect them to be played on Wednesday though.

Wow, Jaedong will Really have to become ZvP specialist now. He has to face Bisu in bo5 and Stork in the OSL... (Not that Stork's PvZ can be compared to that of Bisu) Best vs Bisu is just sad. Fantasy vs Luxury and Hwasin vs by.hero can be mighty nice.
Teammates are not allowed to play each other inside the practice houses when they will be having official games with each other right? (Heard it in GOM S1, Huskal v Hwasin)
I bet Bisu has been practicing like mad with Pusan..
EDIT: Just had this imagining...
Best practices with Much (in my opinion, the only available player that he could practice PvP with) Luxury (Flash) - already teammates, so very obvious ^^ Fantasy (ToSky) - ToSky has decent ZvT compared to SKT zergs Hwasin (Calm) - teammates... hero (fOrGG)
The following would produce epic replays:
Jaedong (Kal) Stork (July)
I just picked the players with a high ELO in the respective matchup to be practiced with these OSL participants.
Stork has had it rough. Having to get out of the Group of Death with Bisu, Ynarc, and July, then getting out of tiebreakers with Ynarc and July, and now a Bo3 with Jaedong? Not only is it a Bo3 with the best ZvP in the world, he has to 2-0 Jaedong in order to avoid Tears of the Moon. Good luck with that, lol

I don't know Storks PvZ looks pretty good lately. And people seem to have forgot his Incruit OSL performance his micro was INCREDIBLE. I think Stork will win or atleast make it close. Just read the PR and his explanation. Stork has to be practicing a TON for this match up. But of course so has jaedong.

WE CAN BELIEVE
PROTOSS FIGHTING!!
2-0ing Jaedong is a pretty big task to do, though. He is halfway there. If Stork doesn't win on Chupung-Ryeong, hes really really fucked.
Why did it take so long for Stork to finish off Jaedong? I'm not great at analyzing strategies, and sizing up an opponent (beyond army size), but it seemed like after that first big blunder by Jaedong, losing a sizable force of Lurkers and lings on the ramp, and then losing his expansions, that Stork simply wasn't committing to a full attack, and nearly let JD get back into the game.
Also, why did it take so long for JD to tech to defilers? Don't quote me, but I think he started using dark swarm about 30 minutes in.

Don't doubt the players, their obviously more knowledgeable than you. Could you beat Jaedong? Stork took so long because he was worried about losing his entire army so he decided he would take a strategic advantage. Oh and by the way Stork WON so why does it really matter. It dosen't really matter how you win, it matters if you win.

What? Just because they're better doesn't mean they don't make any mistakes, nor that we can't criticize. I don't make cars either but I can call some cars crappy all I want, it's a stupid point. As we've seen in + Show Spoiler +

Imo, Fantasy has a decent chance to beat Bisu. As someone said already, Fantasy's TvP looked quite strong at last OSL finals verses Stork. And Stork's PvT during that time was incredibly scary
On the other hand, Jaedong is going to eat by.Hero alive. Not to mention JD rarely loses in Bo5
This finals really is up to how well Fantasy is going to perform. But Bisu is still on fire, I would still choose Bisu as the favorite

I know Jaedong's ZvZ is near-perfect...but from what I've seen of hero, he has enough mechanics and micro to give Jaedong a run for his money. How the hell can you average 446 APM in a 16 minute ZvT...If Jaedong takes him lightly, he's in for a shock.

If both Bisu and JD lose--Oh my, that's just terrible to think about, people might even petition for a third spot Bo5 then, how the ratings would drop.
Oh no no....we must have a Bisu vs. Jaedong final. MUST. If Bisu actually took his first OSL against the 2nd best player in the league in a Bo5, I have a feeling Korean fans might start calling him a Bonjwa. Either way, such a series would be *so awesome*. by.hero's up and coming, but Jaedong is already here. I think most people want that screwed up Bo5 GOM TV series to be settled once and for all. I know I do!
DAMN HOLY FUCKING SHIT BAG FUCK SHIT SHIT SHIT BISU SHOULD HAVE FUCKING WON HOLY SHIT HOW THE HELL DID HE LOSE 3 TIMES IN A ROW TO FANTASY???? HOW?????????????? OMG I WANTED A BISU VS JAEDONG ON FINAL DAMN IT HOLY SHIT I'M SOOOOOO EFFING MAD!!!
Ok. I thought about it, and I think this is what happened. Bisu's only been practicing his PvZ because he expected to face Jaedong at Finals. He didnt expect fantasy to beat him. They're on the same team, and Bisu probably always beat fantasy, so he didnt care at all. Fantasy probably practiced like hell because he knew bisu is the greatest player alive.
Too bad that by.hero has to go against Jaedong. If the brackets were different and he faced Bisu instead, then he would be very likely to advance to the finals. I guess by.hero's royal road ends on the Ro4, but he still went a long way on his first starleague, really impressed me.
Anyways, Jaedong is going to be the champion of the OSL. Nice way to take the lead over Bisu as the current best player.
Oh my, Jaedong's in Tyrant mode. It's a shame Hero had to face him NOW, but I'm happy he made it this far. JD's ZvT is looking scary as Hell lately as well. He's 9/10 and that game he lost was to SkyHigh's brilliant cheese.
