So there was a blackout that affected a lot of people in southern California in the US today and it lasted for me, 9 hours, and power is still being restored throughout the city.
During this time, my family and I actually sat down for the first time and ate around the same area in I'd say.... 5-6 years? Then also, outside all the neighbors in my culdesac got together and all their kids played together in the streets (something I never see anymore) and it felt like our neighborhood was all the more cheerful.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that this blackout that we had just now actually was a very good thing as the only thing I ever do now is go on my computer and play games and to get away from this and see all this feel good stuff going on around me just makes me very happy inside. I just felt like sharing this.
(Sorry I'm not much of a writer)

I feel you, bro.
Same thing happened all around my neighborhood. It'd been such a long time since I heard the sound of kids running around outside, it was also quite refreshing. Also, getting the chance to step outside in the darkness to look up at the stars was quite the treat.
It's nice being reminded of all the small pleasures in our lives ^^

Santee here, just got our power back like 15 minutes ago. We had the same deal in my neighborhood and I am thankful to have such awesome neighbors who let me enjoy their bbq with them :D

Yeah i also laid out today under the stars was pretty nice too

Coming from an EE background, I am shocked and appalled that half of SoCal can completely go dark because of some wiring mishap. Glad everyone's safe and you even gained a little something from it!

awww 5/5 i had this happen recently, and i read some harry potter via flashlight

Yeah I heard from the news that a simple mistake took off the power there? Great to hear nevertheless!

Looking forward to the incident report. Someone will be thoroughly grilled for this.

I just napped through most of it, then pretended I was in the medieval ages by reading a book with candlelight (it fucking sucks don't do it)
The area I just moved from (El Centro, live in SD now) was supposed to be like 120 degrees during their blackout, which lasted for around an hour. So blackout isn't necessarily good especially if the weather is pretty shitty where you live lol

The only excuse I'm willing to accept for such a widespread blackout as the one here today is that the power drain from a humongous railgun shouldered by a humoungous mecha, fired twice in order to prevent universal human tangification, necessitated it.
In all seriousness though, things weren't so bad. I think.
Edit: Turns out the real explanation for all this isn't as exciting as I hoped it would be.
+ Show Spoiler +LA TIMES: A utility worker doing maintenance near Yuma, Ariz., triggered a massive blackout that jammed roads, closed schools and businesses, grounded planes and left more than 4 million people across a large swath of Southern California and Mexico without power.

school was cancelled today because of the blackout so all the more reason to be cheerful.

Sounds like I lucked out, was in San Diego earlier last weekend and left on Monday. Sounds like you had a nice experience with it.

Blackout would have been great if it wasn't 110 outside T_T need fucking AC...

Just got my power back. From about 4:10 PM - 3:30 AM I had no power. It was pretty crazy, I don't think I could ever live in a place like FL that gets regular blackouts due to hurricanes and such.

Why is it so hot in SD now

I got my power back at 2:30AM today. I live in south Orange County and just had the shortest first week of school of my life:
1st day: 1.5 periods, then bomb threat from a Navy Officer took up the rest of the day 2nd day: regular day 3rd day: no school cause no power
7.5 periods out of 18 for a week... not bad

I had 10 miles of gas left in my car when the power outage hit and I was at work (in San Marcos). Home is 30 miles away (in La Jolla). I drove around to like 7 diff gas stations, all of which had no power (no gas). I had to wait for someone to pick me up and drive me home and left my car at work for the night.. got off work at like 4pm, got home by 7pm.. pain in the butt.
But at least I got some good sleep for the first time in months, went to sleep at like 9:30 fuk YEA!!

I experienced this first hand myself. I had a nice candle lit night with my wife. Neighbors grouped up outside for some group singing. Someone this morning mentioned it was exactly the kind of break that everyone needed.
On other notes: all those reading this post should be attending the GSL finals party tonight at Joes pizza.
