I did so in response To Blizz signing
with gomTV. We all knew it was coming, but now that we know for certain that Blizz is content with ESPORTs in the form and shape of current World of Warcraft (ESL, gom, MLG then online ladder into Blizzcon as largest tournament), I'm out. I'll still play through the single player campaign(s) at a friends house or something, but I feel I can't reward this decision with my money.

I'm sorry if this is taken as inflammatory, but that's the exact word i'd use to describe Blizzards announcement.

I'm not encouraging anyone to do the same and I'm not expecting any sympathy, I just feel that it"s important in an ESPORT friendly community, the voices of all ESPORT fans are heard. Mine is one of them.

A lot of features of beta (such as how they changed the friend system) are discouraging me from buying the game. However, since I don't know what will or won't be in the final release (and subsequent patches), I'm just going to buy the game anyway even if they keep certain features I really hate. I of course am not happy about the lack of offline play, the ums publishing system, lack of chat rooms, etc...

If blizzard doesn't fix these things they'll have some explaining to do.

Yeah, the real-life name display of everyone is a real gem as well, if that makes it into final release I believe Blizzard will face legal issues.

If you buy the game regardless, blizzard has no explaining to do to you, actually.

If they do something very unpopular and are getting torn apart from a large part of their fanbase (those who bought the game even) then they will have some explaining to do whether or not it's because we boycotted the game.

Of course they could just ignore us anyway but w/e... not going to worry about things that might not become problems...

Ditto
was going to buy the game out of starcraft loyalty and because it actually looked kind of fun, despite all the new bnet suckiness. Them screwing over _brood war_ progaming was too much for me to handle though.
I will not play the game and I will actively try to convince friends whom I know will only play the campaign anyway to just pirate it.

Yeah I'm considering just pirating it as well. The way the game is heading, I don't see any reason why I should pay money for it.

I have lost all faith in blizzard.

Come to think of it, I haven't even enjoyed any of their titles since diablo 1/2, starcraft, and wc 1 and 2 and that was about 10 years ago. I have basically went from loving blizzard and their games above all others to the point where I'm considering not even buying sc2. Which imo isn't even that great of a game, just another modern rts except it has a huge established crowd dead set on turning a mediocre game into an e-sport.

I will still buy the game, but I'll hate Blizzard forever, because the only thing they care is money and they use "esports" as an excuse for their actions.

I hadn't planned to buy SC2 anyway, but now I'm sure I won't.
Hope the oldschool game designers at Blizzard do not enjoy to be owned by Activision.

umm... actually its kespa who screwed over blizzard all these years making money off their IP. im not a fan of "IP" coz nobody's losing anything just from a copy, even less from improvements made from it. makin' a copy is different from actually stealing something. there's no guarantee that anyone would buy product A and many great technologies and ideas arent used to their full potential coz some capitalist fucks claim "copyright" (you have to ask for a right to make a copy? thats bs, ffs!).
tho im not a huge fan of capitalism of any kind.

but right now we do have it. kespa didnt even ask blizzard all these years. they used something somebody else made to grow an economy based on it without the creator getting anything.
not buying the game over bnet 2.0 flaws or other imperfections, i can understand. not buying it coz you dont support the creators policy is understandable. not supporting this particular move though i cant understand at all.
kespa stole someone elses product to further their own end. you are giving blizzard a hard time when they are the ones that MADE the fucking game. how can kespa have more rights to the product than the people that made it? its completely beyond me. even if the sky comes crashin down coz of this you cant blame blizzard for it, instead blame kespa for not giving a fuck.
i dont understand all these people. >_<

whats so hard about working with blizzard instead of against them? i dont see how esports benefits from that in any way. kespa also didnt do much for esports anywhere other than korea. people are makin it out to be a ton more important than it is.

It would be a rather large effort on my part to try to buy it in the summer, seeing as I'm a penniless student conducting intense warfare with laziness. A few months ago I was determined to do so regardless.

However, I hope that by the time SC2 is for sale in my city the situation concerning GOM and OSL/MSL/PL will be settled, because if the Koeran BroodWar leagues/broadcasts cease to exist after August this summer, my attitude towards Blizzard will change dramatically and irrevocably (it's not to good lately), and as a fan I don't think I'll be willing to buy one of their games ever again.

If this will be the case, I'll probably get an illegal copy anyway, but let's hope for better things. I don't judge you OP, and I actually think your action was only a bit rushed, if anything, but definitely justified.

The blizzard of 1990's and early 2000's is a completely different company -- people and all -- than now.

All this money that Kespa is supposedly making off blizzard's product, where does it come from? Please tell me I'm curious. Live games are free, the market for various spin off products (team shirts etc) is relativly small. The entire thing is an advertisement ploy and blizzard ceartinly gets its share of the attention.
Anyway, there are other threads for that particular issue, like the current one in the star2 forum.

If it weren't for kespa and all the dedicated people that have put in tears, sweat and blood over the years, starcraft would have been long forgotten by now. Thanks to E-sports blizzard has 4.5 million copies sold in korea alone, and here they are bitching and moaning. It's the reality of corporations but it's also a prohibiting factor for the growth of E-sports.

I'll have absolutely nothing to do until like october this summer because I'm heading into the army so I'll probably end up buying the game out of sheer boredom. I haven't preordered the game yet because of the bnet 2.0 suckiness.
