*Flash back end
The coming of the new season has arrived. It is the one of spring, birds chirping, flowers blooming. It is a shame though, for these signs of life that are so beautiful are quickly extinguished by the battles that rage in this world that we call Battlenet. Flowers wither to the spreading creep, animals flee at the rolling of siege tanks, Psionic Storms come crashing down. It's only been a single day since the ladder reset but there already has been so many casualties.
Now our hero The Bronze King, Blasterion, or who was the Bronze king, for he no longer holds the throne since the ladder has reset.
"I've always hated that badge of mine but now that it isn't there anymore I kind of miss the damned thing." the King laughed at himself and looked at the 1v1 screen.
"So this single match will decide my fate, It'll be nice If I get placed in silver or something" The king clicked on the "Find Match" Button. But then the king thought to himself.
"No wait!"
"If I ladder now, not warmed up, I may very well lose this match."
"If so much rests upon this.... I must be prepared!"
The king was worried, for many of his friends became victims of cheese. The lawless lands of the ladder, the wilderness, it is there where men become real men (and women become real female pro gamers)
Thus after stretching his limbs, and reviewing his tactics the king once again stared into the depth of the future, that placement badge of untold possibilities. One thing did bother him. It was hesitation, it was fear, and it was uncertainty. But shaking those feelings off he clicked the find match button.
The match finding took a long time. For it was not the prime time for Starcraft. With each passing second the king grew more anxious. Many possibilities flashed before the king. One of them was Zerg. The king in the past crossed blades with many zerg leaders. Of which many 6 pooled, Others 1 based. They were weak critters to deal with, but strong in numbers. In the king's days in the Bronze League Zergs were laughable. But it is when he practiced against his friends that he learned to fear them.
Macro Zergs, They were feared, they were unstoppable, they are like a plague with no cure. Marines cower in fear Banelings rolls down the map. SCVs flee as the sky darkens with mutalisks. Lines of tanks falter as Ultralisks charge into them.
Each passing second felt like an hour as build orders, game timings, statistics, probabilities, cheeses, cheese counters, countless items flowed thru the king's mind. The King falters, but just as he clicks the cancel button. Battlenet has found a match. It wasn't any match.... It was a TvZ.
The King Panicked, he fumbled his command cards as he attempted to send the SCVs to the Mineral line. Putting him behind for a few valuable seconds. As he was throwing down his barracks an overlord flies above his command center. The king immediately relays the scouting scv to the close air position and prepares for a 2 rax attack.
But just as he was about to throw down his second barracks a scouting drone blocks his barracks!
The flustered king attempts to drive the drone out. However, accidentally moving in all of his scvs! The king felt despair. That single mistake cost him alot of mining time. So much that no matter how much harder he cracks the whips at the SCVs he won't get those minerals back
Feeling behind the king lifts his barracks to creat a heavy wall and prepares to expand
But at this time the Zerg attacks~!
The king was able to hold....
With the Enemy's army in shambles the king pushes out.
It was quick and decisive the marine delt a heavy blow to the enemy the attack was swift, brutal, and stimmed.
but just as the king was about to deal a killing blow on Zerg queen, A storm of zergling banelings came crashing down the marine squad.
"Fall Back"
"We're Cut off"
"Spread Out!"
"We're all gonna die!"
Chaos ensued, In a blink of an eye, all was quiet. all that remains of the Terran marine corps were green fluids seeping into the creep.
Seeing his main force obliterated the King once again reinforces his great wall, a wall soooooo great that it became a fortress. That is a planetary fortress (meanwhile taking a third)
More exchanges were had over time, but the zerg always had the advantage crushing the
king's attacks one by one
Frustrated. The king unleashed his trump card. The fusion core.
But at this time the skies darkened, Shrieks of horror filled the air. It was an mutalisk attack.
Marines scrambled to fight them off... marines dropped left and right, rains of blood were shed as mutalisks fell to gauss rifles. But it was obvious the marines won't hold.
"Commander! there's too many of them!"
"We cannot hold!"
The kings yelled at his men " HOLD THE LINE! Only protoss zealots would utter such words of cowardice."
Though in the king's heart he knew the marines would only buy him time.
"Commander we have 3 battlecruisers ready to launch at starport 02 03 and 04"
The king knew the risks, he'll be showing his hand to the enemy, but the mutalisk swarm must be fended off.
"Send the cruisers in have marines back them up."
As the Battlecruiser drive out the mutalisks, the captain pages the king
"Hahaha, these flies got nothing on our Ships, We'll run them flat."
"No I think zergs are smarter than that they'll have something in stored for us."
"Hahahaha, You're thinking too much, Allow me to bring you their heads!"
"No! Wait! You fool!"
Soon the 3 cruisers were over whelmed by mutalisk and corruptor firepower.
(Inside the cruisers)
"Captain they're too many of them!"
"Cruiser 3 is down!"
"We're breaking apart here!!!!"
"Cruiser 2 is in reds!"
"Captain!"
"RETREAT! FULL SPEED RETREAT!!!"
"It's no good!!! They're too fast!!!"
*Boom*
The king fell back into his chair, seeing the on the monitor his fleets last moments before the last cruiser went up into flames. He said in a low voice
"You've always been a fool, generic battlecruiser captain..."
Now the king looks at his army. His forces are in shambles, his fleets are in ruins, his economy devastated. There's nothing the king can do to win this.
The king has 1 choice left. he looks at his wall. In front of the wall. is a Planetary Fortress. If he can fight a battle with the fortress he might be able to slay most of the zerg ground forces.
Thus he sends his marines to bait the zergs to attack him, the zerg taking the bait come streaming down. Hordes of Zerglings, Banelings seeking to overwhelm the king.
Banelings crashed into the Planetary fortress, razing it to the ground. The king has bough time for himself. But the zerg unleashed another wave of attack with only 8 Battlecruiser available for combat the king braces for the worst.
But just as this happens.
'Upgrade Complete!"
Rank 2 weapons finishes for the king's fleet and the cruisers were able to tear through the zerg ranks.
Finally crushing the entire zerg army the King orders a full on charge with his cruiser fleet straight into the core hive.
The fleet quickly takes out the Hive and the hatcheries.
The king, knowing that corruptors will ruin his only chance at victory quickly orders his fleet to destroy the enemy spire
"All fleet! Prepare to fire the Yamato Cannon on my mark"
"FIAAAAAHHHHH!!!!!"
The enemy spire came crashing down. It was glory, shrieks of unborn mutalisks and corruptor fill the air. The King will win this match.
So ends the king's placement match. He was awarded a gold league badge. It was definitely an improvement over his old bronze badge. The King of course will continue his quest for the masters badge, it'll be a journey for sure. The Gold League though, isn't a bad place to start that journey.
