All right, so I went to an indoor badminton court, and I just see a bunch of old people playing, so I decide to wait for some people my age to start playing. Now, this was about the second time I've ever played badminton, but you know, how hard can it be? I can play tennis decently, and I'm fairly athletic, so I wasn't expecting much. Boy, was I wrong.

This old grandma, like 60 years old, asks me to play, and I say ok. I was going to go easy on her, until I saw her hit the ball. Man, that thing went like a 100 mph. It was faster than a damn baseball pitch lol. I proceed to get beat 21-0. And it wasn't just this, she went on to talk trash to me afterwards. She went on about how I couldn't hit the ball like a man, and how she thought I was in elementary school (I am in high school).

During the game, she asks me if I ate lunch, and I reply that I did, and then she asks me why I can't hit the ball hard even though I ate. Then she asks how old I am, and I reply 17, and she says, "Wow, I thought you were in elementary school. You look really young for your age." I got my pride wounded, but what am I gonna do, she kicked my ass in badminton, and in Korea, it is really really bad to say anything disrespectful to your elders. So I just walk away, and sit down on a bench, watching others play.

I looked carefully, and realized all the people were wearing special badminton clothes and shoes. Seriously, you should have seen them, they were like wearing a badminton uniform or something. And even though they were old, they hit the ball faster than a damn tennis serve.

Man, I will never look at badminton, or old people in the same way ever again.

Clearly shows how egoistic you are when you go by appearances
Just always do your best and just crush every opponent you can :D

You got served for underestimating her

But the grandma trash talking is obviously bad but atleast she's competitive lol.

Yeah, but I mean, what would you do if some really old person came up to you and asked you to play 1v1 against him in basketball. I think most people would go easy on them, even if they aren't egoistic. But yes, I did underestimate her, and I did get served. And I even got bm'ed too

Badminton is the hardest sport ever... I don't know how people can return one of those birdie smashes. They go from their racket to the ground before you even see their racket move... Nothing like tennis, imo.

Grackma ... lol genius, but damn 60 year old ... yeah anyone would've went easy on someone like that just because it's logical. It's not like your going in with the mindset "I'm going to destroy them".

Is it wrong to assume that is the face she made when she beat you?
And the fact that she has the casual korean grandma hair?

Badminton is no jokes man.
+ Show Spoiler +

Got raped by a girl one month ago... i didn't even shake hands, i just muttered "well played" without looking her.
I felt like a huge loser during one week lol. Not because i have lost but because i behaved like a very insecure and rude guy
I can't wait to play her again just because i want to prove that i'm not a sore loser this time.

So don't feel bad man, the most important thing as an amateur is not to win, it is to get better and to be mannered. And since you need to lose a lot to better players if you want to improve you should't get angry if a grandma kick your ass :p

I just searched Wikipedia for the the badminton ball, the shuttlecock (hur hur):

Feather shuttles may come off the strings at speeds in excess of 320 km/h (200 mph) but slow down faster as they drop.

Holy Check, you weren't lying about being faster than a baseball pitch! Thanks for the heads up, now I know not to play badminton with anyone that could potentially humiliate me lol.

Lol dude, I loved your cartoon. And yeah, she did have a face like that, and you could see her grinning about how she beat a teenager.

This pic is so funny, I'm posting it on facebook

My high school gym teacher was a 60 year old grandma and raped the shorts off of all of us except this one Thai exchange student who may have been the best badminton player in the entire Alpha Quadrant.

Koreans are so serious about how "skilled" one is.. Competition seems very thick. even between a 60 year old and a teenager...

No, not really. I mean, I didn't have a serious intention of winning or anything like that. I just posted this because I thought it was kind of funny what happened, with the bm and all. I'm not gonna commit suicide or anything because an elder person beat me in a sport

Old people never fail to amaze me whenever I see them play some sport. I've seen them destroy people in basketball/handball/tennis/ping pong/billiards.

Olds in Asia are not to be trifled with.

Its nice to be in a place that still values its elders.

Obesity does not exist outside of the globalized McIpod youth (in China).

It's pretty amazing the way public parks function in Beijing. From dawn till dusk hundreds of people can be found playing badmintion, chinese chess, ping-pong, tai ji, walking, singing, etc.

Such a good sport. I started playing in the october of last year. Some of my friends are just insanely good at the game, but it helps me improve quickly. I advise you to stick to the sport for sure. One of my favourite things about the sport is that anybody of any stature can get really good. Of course there is an ideal physique, but it's all mostly about skill and technique rather than physique.

Oh and for the record, a couple months ago, I got served by a lady in her late 40's. It's really not that uncommon. Pretty damn funny that she bm'ed you afterwards Hopefully you gain some motivation to improve from this experience rather than quitting. Don't carry pride in this sport, it'll just be shattered by some the people that you'd least expect.

I hope I become one of those old people. Without the bm that is
