When I had wisdom teeth pulled I watched like 6 movies that I had been meaning to watch in a row. That's one option. I also slept alot and ate lots of yogurt.

Hmm, if they aren't impacted it's easier. Mine were super easy. Went to sleep, woke up, jumped up. Mom drove me home. The next night I was eating popcorn at the movies.

Oh god, maybe that's why they hurt like hell. Fully impacted so when the drill came holy shit they hurt like hell. And this was under anesthesia too. Good lord.

One of my wisdom teeth is pushing all of my other teeth forward and that's making the gum swell and it's uncomfortable
My dentist tells me that the wisdom teeth should stay in.
water/hydrogen peroxide/baking soda mouth rinse is disgusting...

it sucks, i had to eat congee for days
|
I got mine out last month. I was fine and felt little to no pain the first couple of days afterward. But then I experienced two weeks of pain in my lower jaw which outlasted my supply of vicodin.

i was supposed to get mine out in highschool and now im going into my senior year of college.
oops.
maybe over january break. guess while i still have dental insurance is probably a good time huh.
|
I hated going to the dentist as a kid, I had this oral surgery once while just having the mouth frozen and all I could remember was a lot of cutting and a traumatic sight of blood soaked gloves of the dentist.
But let me tell you... getting my 4 wisdom teeth pulled was the best dentist experience ever. Like chill's experience, they put me to sleep, I woke up without any pain and eating was super easy because the teeth is all the way in the back so I just bit stuff in the front like always.
|
Yeah, mine went smoothly as well. I was eating regular food the day after. :D
|
Am I the only one who had quagmire style cheeks afterwards? and there's no mention of blood here... am I the only one who was bleeding like crazy!?

I'm getting all 4 taken out on July 10th... Hopefully the pain doesn't last for 2 weeks like most people.

Also, be glad you're getting all 4 taken out at once. I only got 2 taken out and I have to go back to get the other 2 removed...

i think i said this in another wisdom tooth thread, but I never got mine pulled out because they didnt hurt or anything. But the tooth behind my top left canine tooth has slowly twisted about 90° due to cramping. Sucks.

Yeah hopefully I will have an easy time resting. How long does the bleeding last? It should last only for a day right? I think my oral surgeon is providing me this bottled water where it allows me to squirt water around the socket to avoid crap getting into it and avoiding infections. Besides that, he is giving me vicodin of course. He also gave me 4 pills of halium (2 the night before and the other 2 I should take 1 hour before the operation) to calm my nerves... anyone had to take this? Does it really calm you down?
|
Well i just got 1 extracted but it didnt hurt at all. I mean i felt the anesthesia, and they just pulled it. I walked home and slept all night, next day I just remember the odd feeling of something missing there, no pain. Maybe i just got lucky.

Depends on how well you take care of the extraction site (ie: not moving your jaw too much, changing the gauze carefully), but I hardly bled at all after 24 hours.

Does it really calm you down? I never heard of this option. I got NOS. I don't really recommend it. Insurance only covered a small portion of the cost. The first time I got it, there was some mild benefit. It has a relaxing effect and although it doesn't exactly kill pain, it makes you wholly unafraid of it. Difficult to explain if you haven't experienced it. That said, the effects were very subtle and I'm sure I'd have been fine without it. Second time (I got my right and left sides done seperately, not sure why it was recommended) they over-gassed me and it was pretty terrible. Felt like I had a brutal hangover for a couple hours afterwards.
So in summary: NOS = mild benefit or major discomfort; I'd skip it. If your local anaethetic is properly administered you shouldn't feel a damn thing.

Ehh, I do feel as if the Nitrous Oxide helped calm me down a bit, making me slightly more relaxed during the procedure. Just remember to breathe in and out through your nose to get the full effect. Though I will say, I do feel as if I could have gone without it. It did help with calming my nerves down a bit, but I feel as if I really could have gone without it.
And god damn these puffy chipmunk cheeks. They're entirely swollen up right now and it's a pain in the ass. Although I can actually eat now, which is nice. I feel like if everything goes right, the first day will be painful, but afterwards you should be fine as long as you take the proper procedures to take care of yourself.

I remember last year I got massively sick due to infections and after nearly $600 down the tube towards dentists visits basically telling my that: they aren't oral surgeons, the second and third molars need to be removed due to severe damage, and telling me my estimate is up towards $2600 (this with no insurance, I could buy a car for that amount).
If I need eight teeth removed I better be getting some better painkillers because when I was in pain for 4 days during the infection taking 6 vicodin in an hour didn't do anything, surprisingly I have this neo-hippie roommate who forced an insane amount of vitamin A on me, needless to say it worked for the pain, fever and swelling but by no means a substitute for the overall removal.

Ugh I hated getting my wisdom teeth taken out. It's not the pain, it's the fact that you can't eat fucking ANYTHING. My mom made me pancakes and scrambled eggs after I got back and the scrambled eggs were the shit but the pancakes made me want to punch a hole in the wall. Fucking impossible to eat them.
|
I got mine taken out 10 days ago. The pain is almost completely gone except for my lower right tooth (where there is gap between the gum and my jaw.) I'm supposed to get rotting food out of there with a syringe and salt water.
|
I was thinking about this a while ago. When are you supposed to pull em out? cause I haven't yet
|
oh god. I've had all my wisdom teeth pulled. One of the teeth they actually had to take out with oral surgery at the hospital cuz that motherfucker grew in a really weird way and couldn't be extracted at the dentist's.
I feel your pain, ask for strong painkillers

It depends on the person because it grows differently for some. Both my dentist and oral surgeon said that it is usually best to get it taken out around 17 - early to mid 20's. If you get it out at an older age it becomes harder because the tooth will be hardened by then.

I'm surprised, I had all 4 taken out and they were all impacted and I had minimal pain/complications, didn't even take vicodin, just tylenol. Although I had trouble getting back into normal foods until about a week later, guess it depends on the person.

Same here, I actually had 4 wisdom teeth taken out plus 2 of the ones right before the molars on the upper row (make room for other teeth, aligners). Didn't hurt at all, just a bit sore the first day. Took some tylenol, but it didn't really help lol. Next day I was fine. I couldn't eat much, only soft foods like cottage cheese, apple sauce, but after a couple days, I could chew regular foods, albeit very slowly, with my front teeth (pain in the ass lol).

u got them all pulled at once?!?!
wow... that must have hurt...

Wish me luck guys... getting mine (4) pulled out in about 8 hours...
