I dunno what happened but apparently I cannot play this game anymore. It's as if I lost the desire to even try to play anymore and lost all the fun from playing. I think I was just playing wayyyyyy too much for wayyyyy too long and am experiencing some sort of extreme crash and burn.
I was B- last season and this morning just lost 4 straight to fall to D- how is that even possible? wtf?
I just rage uninstalled sc and deleted everything. I had probably 4,000 replays over the past 4 years or so, so many great games vs top US players. so many wins. so many games vs amazing B and A- ranked koreans... All gone haha. I had so much fun playing for so long, making fpvods, highlight videos, playing in random tournaments and stuff... But then something happened. Maybe I realized I'd never really be that good, maybe I got so pissed after losing so horribly in recent wcg qualifier. Maybe I realized how much time I was spending playing this game and how little I was improving. Or at least how little I perceived myself to be improving. I would practice for hours a day and still lose to the same old random bullshit time after time. I kept going though because I had so many highly ranked practice partners who kept telling me I was such a good player... And I know I was.
It's as if I erased part of the past 4 years or so with a couple clicks of the mouse this morning. Funny thing is right now I feel so free, I feel like this huge burden has just been lifted off my shoulders. I dunno why but I was pushing myself so hard recently and getting to a point where I was seriously angry after I lost games. Ah man too much stress over a freakin game for gods sake.
I don't even know where my original cd is either so I can't even reinstall if I wanted to. I hate this game right now and all the headache it's caused me. I love all the friends I made playing though and had a blast playing in a couple of those wcg qualifiers. I'll miss alot of the people I've met but I won't miss the extreme anger and stressful shit that I kept going through.
People say you can't truly quit this game. This morning I just did. I'll play Starcraft 2 definitely but my Broodwar days just came to an abrupt end. I definitely won't be back. I do plan to continue to visit TL and stay in touch with friends I've made through starcraft but my playing days are definitely ova! You know it's time to quit when you're not having fun anymore.

Its the same way with every game. Losing 4 games in a row on Iccup = normal. Just because it says they're D doesnt mean they actually are.
If you were pushing yourself so hard that you were getting pissed then yeah, probably a good idea to find a new hobby.

I get into my losing mode quite often. I think my longest streak has been 14 games. Anyways, I've read your post on sc2gg about how hard it is to get good at the game and I gotta agree with you there. For me though, there's still joy in the challenge of aspiring to be better. I hope you find that passion one day, if not, sc2 is just around the corner.

sc should be fun. the only reason you ought to play it is for an entertaining challenge. if the game really does not appeal to you anymore then you should quit indeed. but from the emotional hysterics described above it sounds like you are still very much into this game.

Dude I am the definition of inconsistant in RTS games.. In my "crappy" SC career, I have beaten many top players, such as Froz, Hovz, Testie, Veg, etc all the old guys, And then id lose to some horrible x17 newb. Its the same on war3, when I played at a high level, I beat out abunch of top europe players then would lose to some level 10 on east.. Thats the nature of the game, you always have to be developing your mental game to control every situation..
Basically, if you lose to D players, don't assume you are B-. I reached B- too afew seasons back but if I had to say where i fit now, probably C if Im lucky. consistancy is what makes a player good, cause if you go 200-200 to get B-, you aren't really B-. you need to have consistancy/control.
I have done that 3-4 times, you always come back. The only time I "quit" sc was two times, One because my internet was SOO shitty (modem split between 10 roommates is nothx) that I couldnt play, altho I still watched every GOMtv game and stuff.. The other time, was when War3 first came out, and I played that for about 4-5 years but the metagame is pretty much done evolving, which is its biggest flaw.. I missed the whole PGT scene, came back when iccup was around season 5 and like wtf, protoss's fast expoing?? so weird lol

I must say I deleted all my shit because I was angry with myself. I do not feel humiliated or ashamed of anything. I feel more confusion and anger than humiliation or shame. I'm a very intrinsically motivated person. External factors have very little effect on decisions I make. You'll never catch me begging for wins or abusing/dodging just for a good record to show off.
I always played bw for the love of the game and to improve. I played for the competition and the rush of playing a good game. I played for the people, for the excitement. Quitting had absolutely nothing to do with humiliation or shame. I simply realized over the past few days that the factors that had been driving me to play have disappeared so I've decided to quit.

I was sitting at my computer this morning after deleting pretty much everything starcraft related on my hard drive and had to do something. Posting in a blog on TL felt like the natural thing to do.
Many of my best replays exist on repdepot, my external hard drive and my other computer so I didn't get rid of absolutely everything. I just deleted my entire starcraft folder which included mainly just the autoreplays folder which had grown to about 4,000 in length dating back to 2007.

No need for cd key. It is cut down version as well, and the Iccup server is the only server you have by default so you dont need to add it or anything. Plus, the antihack is included.

I have gone through gay stuff too, like losing to a 6-36 Protoss player who went fast dt's and owned me, or losing to cheesers like in 9/10 games, whether it be all in lings, dt, etc.

The only time I ever get really mad, is when I play team games and my teammates suck hardcore.. so I quit 2v2ing on iccup and now i just mess around with BGH/etc on east, and it sucks sometimes but thankfully everyone else sucks anyways so most of the time i can win 1v2 or so. Either way, its not as frustrating because it doesnt really count against a record like on iccup.
In 1v1, when you lose, its ALL YOUR FAULT. and you have no one to blame but yourself. Thats why when I lose i dont get mad cause I know I should of played better. watch reps and see where you messed up.

I quit trying to learn competitive style SC and just started having fun on BW. I still log in now and then and play a few on iccup, but for the most part, I just newb bash random pubs. It's still somewhat challenging (for a Dish scrub like me), and it's fun.

I tried to quit multiple times in a non extreme fashion where I kept the game and everything installed. 3 days later I'd always find myself playing 15 games on iccup nightly again.
This can't happen this time. Heh it's true, I've always had a flair for drama.

I totally agree, Okay you lost a few games vs lower rankked players so what.... How can you ever achieve success if you just quit when you face an obstacle. Not only in SC, but other things in life that you're interested in. Once you get good at an activity, and then suddenly started slumping and then just quit doing it completely. That attitude will get you nowhere.
It seems to me from your OP you said you found the game not fun anymore because you LOST a lot. If you're gonna quit it should be "i find the game not fun anymore regardless if i win or lose".

Just watch some proleague, do a few liquibets, and have a fpl team, it's a lot of fun and not nearly as time consuming. I don't find BW as fun to play anymore either(despite me randomly playing 4 iccup games yesterday for the first time in about six months). That way you don't have to keep it installed but you can sort of keep up a little so to speak, you don't have to cut all ties with the community at once. I was addicted to WC3 and I still play dota on rare occasions(man that game sucks), I played CS for like 7 years at a ridiculous pace and still play it every now and then. The only game I don't play anymore is WoW, which is the way it should be. Keep in touch with the BW community, there's no reason not to unless you're going to bootcamp. We won't judge you for quitting something you're not enjoying, stress over your kid's education, not this game.

I don't plan on totally leaving the community. Just quitting playing that's all.
I still have starcraft installed on my video editing machine but it's not regularly connected to the internet. I plan to continue making videos every now and then but I can't keep playing. Too much anger and frustration and headache had built up. I've been playing for too long and have associated these negative feelings with something that's supposed to be fun. Even games I had been winning over the past month or so I was annoyed with mistakes I made or wish I could have played even better.
Until I'm mature enough to control myself and play casually I can't play at all. That's the simple fact of it. I can't balance playing starcraft, at least not right now. If I log on and play a couple games and lose I instinctively want to jump to iccup to play 15 games straight practicing a build or timing until I've improved whatever aspect of my game that I feel was sucking. 5 hours later it's 3am and the nights gone. After months and years of this I needed this day to come. I only wish it had come sooner.
This is deep stuff over a trivial topic though, ShoCkeyy just lost his mother and here I am stressing over stupid starcraft. Life's too short for this.

I do agree that if he won the first/second game with proxy fact into 2 port that you might as well do it the next game. Sentenal is right. Who would expect that exact build twice in a row?

Neo Requiem can shove it. That map is more awful than the game itself.
lol guys don't make it so simple to reinstall sc. I need to stay away! I'm already tempted to start playing again, I need to cut all ties to starcraft which would include coming to TL but that's ridiculous... What I need is advice on how to play casually. I realize I'd love to come back if I could find a way to keep the 15games on iccup a night obsessions away... I tried it twice though and when I lose it just makes me want to play more and more and more to get better...
Maybe I should just do what insane did and quit hardcore 1v1'ing. 95% of what I've been doing on starcraft the past 3 years has been 1v1 only. Very few UMS and very few 2v2 which are both so much easier to play at a more casual pace.

Just play against only friends. Or train a nooby since you hate to lose so much
Or start trying to make really bad strategies work, and see how far you can get :O Then post the humiliating replays.

I'm gonna just work on a new sc video and think about it for a while. Thanks for the support ppl. It's not really that I hate to lose, everyone loses, I hate the stress and the headache of trying to improve. I should sit down for fun and relax when I'm not at work or school and instead I was trying to turn starcraft into a second job stressing over random bullshit.
Life is too short to worry about such trivial things such as starcraft skill...
