Don't ask yubee one crotchmaster is bad enough :o

I've taken a couple music theory classes, but I know next to nothing about using FL, although I've tinkered with it in the past and really liked it, I never got into it.
I wouldn't mind offering suggestions on things you've done though

Ive made a lot of shit on Fruity loops TBH. Im not sure what kind of music you like but i love Hardstyle/techno/trance. I can help you with a lot of stuff. just pm if your interested.

get a keyboard or something.
FL won't teach you anything about music.
|
can you play an instrument? guitar, piano, violin, saxophone... jug (simpson's reference) and can you whistle? (like, with your mouth, not the object) and can you sing in tune? (at least relatively in tune, don't have to be mariah carey) do you listen to classical music? (or at least, would you not mind listening to classical music?)
i find the above backgrounds help when learning music from scratch
edit:
do you have a preference in music style? (what type of dj? hip hop, house, trance, kpop, etc.) do you think about and create melodies in your head? (are you able to construct musical phrases, as opposed to random "oh this sounds cool.. but how the heck would anyone play that.. o crap, i can't even remember how it goes") do you have a background in music theory? (harmony, counterpoint, etc.) if not, are you willing to spend the time and effort learning music theory? (or at least, basic rudimentary music theory such as chord progressions, etc.) and most of all... are you divinely inspired?
note: creativity has nothing to do with making music. if you copy, make the copy better than the original. if you are creative, make sure that its down to earth that people not on LSD can appreciate it. (rather, you might still get a fanbase if your LSD tracks are that good)

FL won't teach you anything about music. what a bold statement this is. smells like troll!!!
what kind of DJing? also if you don't know anything about music you're going to suck at it and not make anything worth listening for a really long time, just a heads up, so you've gotta be pretty into it
|
if it's hip hop, you're better off with fruity loops and/ or risen, along with adobe audition for sampling. .
the question on everyone's mind is: what kind of does tasteless listen to? and what does Tasteless want to play as a DJ?
Tasteless everyone here knows you're just looking for new ways to get laid, no need to deny it, but as everyone has already pointed out, this takes a lot time, effort and a some talent, so just go work on your game, or get them drunk.

I know a little bit about FL but just the basics mostly. I'm sure you could youtube a bunch of guides.
|
I've used FL quite a bit, but not enough to really 'mentor' you. It can be kind of tricky but there are PLENTY of guides on youtube and the internet.
|
Ive written a bunch of songs, nothing too great but i am getting much better at using the program, you can ask me anything you want i might be able to tell you what you need to know.
Ill edit this with some songs of mine ^.^ <3 Tasteless

Yea, I think the main question, is what kind of music you plan to produce. In terms of music theory, you may or may not really need it. I didn't know much theory when I started tinkering with FL, and after a couple years, I still turned out 2 pretty good tunes. You DO have to have a good ear for catchy melodies.
I haven't touched FL in like a year, but before that, I used it for around 3 years. It's pretty powerful, and really intuitive. I think the toughest part is setting up your instruments. After that, usually playing around in the piano roll and listening to everything on repeat will allow you to think of things that make a complete song.

Ok so here are some things ive made theyre all almost a year old but ive just recently picked up writing music with FLstudio
Megaman 3 Intro song: [url blocked] Portal: [url blocked] Terran Song(very short): [url blocked] Fire Emblem Song: [url blocked] and the first thing i did with the program after tinkering [url blocked]
It goes in order from bottom to top oldest to newest
and the newest is still like a year ago XD lol
Well Yeah FL Studio is way more powerful than anything that is up there^ and ive really been learning a lot about it lately like for example the SCRATCHER is awesome! So yeah i have a lot of experience with FL Studio, i can probably answer most or all questions you have about it
EDIT: Sorry for using megaupload it can be a pain =/

Hells yeah fruity loops. I'm classically trained so I'm not savvy with writing stuff on the computer but writing with FLStudio is like cheating.
Here's a pretty good example of writing complicated sounding stuff even if you aren't slick with the piano roll or if you don't have a keyboard + Show Spoiler +
What you write depends a lot on what genre's of music you like. There's a lot of software I tried out but that one works the best for me. There's a lot of potential for what you write if you like messing around with VSTi's to get quirky sounds but what you get with XXL is sexy. Some VSTi's out there make writing stuff easier depending on what you like. I listen to a lotbreakcore and drill 'n bass (the Flashbulb if anyone knows who that is) so I use a lot of DBlue Glitch, even though the consensus is that only newbs use it.
Billy10's probably a lot more experienced than I am, but that's just what I've been doing with with it. I actually write my stuff on midi-guitar and keyboard so what I say might not work for most people, though.
|
(lol your pen spinning gets the ladies wet huh?)Yeah I play the piano as well as use FL Studio i would say that i have a lot of experience with music in general
Also i really dont like the built in VSTs they sound kinda bad to me i like other ones much better
For example..reFX Nexus is incredibly powerful and is the best VST I have come across

I took Digital Music and Audio Engineering in College, and I have some fun time with Fruity Loops 5 (lol). I wouldnt say it was ever anything impressive, but FL is powerful (like Reason) and easy to use, but what kind of music are you trying to make? The only "real" musicians that use fruity loops are wannabe producers (rap mostly) and..............
Basshunter .
To get some solid knowledge of music producing start with the mechanics i.e. Reason is much better if you actually want to learn stuff, and the layout is nice because your knowledge translates over to hardware smoothly, provided you ever want to go that far....
