Supposed to play standard if your opponent is bad?

Um... I thought the general gist of things was that if you are better than your opponent, you can play standard and win, but if you are worse, that's the time to cheese as you need it to be able to win.

This 3995 C- (so damn close to C) zerg just 5 pooled me... and my ranking was 3070. What the fuck? Why? He then transitioned into all-in muta of course like the faggot he is...

He probably 5pools every single game to get to C... what a noob.

a ranking of 3070 is up for interpretation, for all you know he might think you were much higher ranked in previous seasons.

Well if you're playing someone you think is weak, a 5pool can earn you an easy win or huge lead early on. Also at the lower ranks you gain more points for a win than you lose for a loss, so there's more incentive to play a larger amount of short games.
No I'm never serious.

if you join or get people joining your game its pretty much no way to tell if they are good or bad unless you know them from before. And playing standard games on ranks below your "real" level is pretty much what I do all the time, even using more safe builds than I normally would.

A little sort of "trick" iv picked up however for determining if people are good in the low ranks is that if people have even numbers of points in the D to C- ranks they are more often good players than people with odd points like 2873. This is since good people who play their own rank usually wins alot and dont get odd numbers from losing 75 pointers at C- ect. This is of course no rule since good people can end up playing D vs D+ games ect, but more often than not when I play good people (good stats atleast) in the low ranks they have even numbers.

Personally I throw in cheese and allin builds when I feel like it and not dictated by the opponent. But there are always people that 5pool all their games on a ladder and if they get A with that then that is that. Nothing you can do about it.
Your reasoning might come in to play in a clanwar. If I faced a much better player and needed to win I might resort to cheese. A ladder game is more "meh".

icc is a ladder. in ladders people tend to do ANYTHING to win. especially at lower ranks. standard rule says when you pass c+ you get to more standard plays. which requires you being over c+ skill. if you are not you simply should not play icc, thats my thought on it. im at c+ skill i'd say and i dont like icc at all because i simply cant pass it when playing standard and i dont like to cheese because i play for fun.

so if you wanna play for fun you'd better get some good team and play games with your mates.

Yeah i got 5 pooled a lot. And proxy gated a load more of times. Literally 90% of my games against P as random were Proxy gates or DT rushes (with army suicide against my expo turret for extra gayness).

It sucks because iccup is the place most people use to practice. I know one should be able to defend against "anything" if you are better, but when 75%+ of the games you play are some sort of all in it kind of losses its purpose (im not even kidding about the proxy and dt rushes).

At B ranks, you rejoice if some korean tries to be cute with an allin. You will have a lot better chance winning that way than vs them playing standard.

And how do you come up with these ridiculous numbers like 70% of all iccup cheese? It's more like 5% for me.

I've never thought there was a ridiculous amount of all-ins or cheese either. I'm Protoss, so maybe that makes a difference, but I get my fair share from Zerg and I never complain.

He just wanted to get to the next rank as soon as possible, so he cheesed ftw.

You know that feeling when you played 20 games to get to some rank and then you just want to play the last game to get the rank and get the hell out of icc for a xyz days break, bragging about your new rank?

Oh, and try to form your blog as some kind of a conversation starter, rather than just a short statement and question, offer your oppinion on it. Oh, and try to avoid calling others faggots and noobs, express your anger in different ways, like "shit hits the fan", "retribution" and "fluffed".

After you get past D+ or so the number of 5 pools drops significantly. (At least it did for me)

I guess the madness is moving into C- now as more ppl get there but I'm not getting cheesed nearly as much. I wish I was though...

Also, you should be able to defend fine if you pull probes. I do 8pylon, 10forge, 12cannon and the 12cannon warps in about three seconds after the lings are at your base. So if you pull seven or eight probes just to keep them busy, you should be fine. I never lose to 4 or 5 pools unless you scout him absolutely last. Then you have no indication to pull probes and you might lose, but that is pretty fucking lucky for him then.

I play to improve... that's why I almost NEVER cheese. If I played to win in the short term, I wouldn't get any better and I wouldn't be able to win in real length games. If I play to get better, however, then over time I'll be winning more.

I'm not a zerg player, and I did stop the 5pool, it just hurt my eco since I lost probably about 4 probes and only had 1 probe mining while holding it off. It just shocked me that he would go noob 5pool, and then go into noob muta rush to continue to go from one all-in anti-noob strat to another.

And yes, I held it off, obviously, by the fact that I said he transitioned into all-in muta

A lot of people play to win. That's just the reality of it, don't try to deny it. Maybe you should focus on winning a game like this next time... cause when I get cheesed, I think "good for him, he got a cheap win, but I should get better at defending against this if it happens again"

I've been trying out different races because I got bored of playing only zerg for the past several years, and I find it absolutely excruciating to deal with cheeses of any kind when I'm Terran.

With Zerg I've gotten so used to dealing with cheese that I actually like it when the opponent cheeses me, but getting my gas stolen, manner pylon'ed and etc. fucking blows as a Terran.

I'm just saying, some people play SC for the single purpose of beating others.

I never cheese or go for any rushes either. My friend on the other-hand is a noob so he does that literally 100% of the time now. Pisses me off.

I hate when weird shit like that happens. Like for example, on python, at the 6 o clock base, try landing reavers to the left of the minerals to shoot the probes. Very often the reavers do not shoot. They shoot more often if you target fire, but if you a-move them or let them sit they do nothing like retards, even though they're definitely in range. Sometimes it doesn't work even when target firing... it's the most bullshit thing ever.

It's true what other posters have said, people on ICCUP play for the win. And gaying out with fast pool or DT or proxy is the quickest way.

The best you can do is scout early and play safe. You scouted him at 3rd spot, that's just bad luck right there! If you play consistently, statistics is on your side. 4/5-pooling is not reliable.
People who fail to distinguish Socratic Method from malicious trolling are sadly stupid and not worth a response.

I'd understand it being a waste of time if the opponent is an uber noob because it wouldn't be fun at all playing standard. But if you're talking about higher level gaming I think it's stupid to play just to win. If it's such a waste of time to play standard, find someone better to play instead of pissing off someone and ruining their day (or their next few minutes).

The question is if my opponent is bad, what will I do? The question is NOT talking about higher level gaming. It's just asking what will I do if I am better at my opponent. So my answer is, because I already know that I am going to win in the end, I will try to win as fast as I can.

Are you expecting me to give my opponent handicaps just because I know I am better than them? =/

Wait... not 5pooling is a handicap?

Something is severely wrong with your logic.

I'd understand it being a waste of time if the opponent is an uber noob because it wouldn't be fun at all playing standard. yes.

when you're not allowed to do something that you're opponent is allowed to do, it's a handicap.
