As most of you should know I'm a Terran player and I'm by no means bad. I think I'm pretty decent and easily above average but recently playing iccup gives me chills.
I totally lost my selfconfidence resulting in bad results and all-in strategies which mostly fail against good players.

I think I cannot win straight games anymore and I don't know why. When I push out a shuttle sneaks in my base and fucks up my timing is just one example of small things that really destroys my gameplay.

Also I struggle to finish off opponents even if I have an advantage. Maybe its just me as Terran who is easily cheeseable that makes me think like that, but I have the feeling that every mistake you make with terran is crucial. I'm not saying Protoss and Zerg are easily to play, but you can make more mistakes on the level I'm playing at.

For the ones who want to call me newby, I'm currently at B- level on iccup with a ~64% winratio, but its really hard to focus if you are mad and frustrated..

If you have anything that could cheer me up or anything you know what could help to gain self confidence in a game, please let me know. Thanks in advance.

Also I'm going to host op TL-Train on iccup to train "korean style" as there are not lots of opponents on B- and I'm going to mass game and get over my slump.

I will destroy everyone in 2009!

Usually when I get pissed off at StarCraft after, either being trashed for retarded reasons by ppl I train with, or just by getting pissed off at failing on ICCup depending on the day....I just relax, take some water and go get some air, think about it for a while and just come back relaxed and I start playing better. Trust me I know how it is I get so insta pissed when I throw away games I can practically smash my computer =]. So just manage to stop trying to play when you get angry (usually when i get pissed off I wanna game mroe and mroe and more just to win ffs, but ultimately you end up losing you know because C/B level requires a lot more concentration, so when you're pissed you lose that concentration) so just manage to stop playing for like 15-30 minutes when your missed, cool off with water / fresh air, and when you come back you should be playing wayyy better =]

Definitely sounds like a "phase" of sorts. Give it a week or so. I find I start losing a lot more when I'm on the verge of improving/shifting my play to the next level.

Was that "Dude you're fucking good..." to cheer me up or do you know that I'm good :D?

Yes, since I'm trying to use my speed now. I've around 300-380 apm depending on the match up and I'm trying to drop harass, vulture raid etc. Also I'm trying to be a little bit more creative and thats probably the jump to the next level. Hopefully I'll manage to handle that and get really good!

A big ass break is what you need. Whenever it stresses you out to a point where you throw your mouse at the wall. take a break for a day/week. or at least until you really want to play it again.

Or get/ make out with, a girlfriend

I don't know what the fuck happened. A week ago I went 11-1 against koreans in a single night. Mostly TvP. 3-4 nights ago, I went like 4-9 against koreans, mostly TvP. I really don't know what happened, but I was really angry that night. So fucking frustrating.

I'm only C rank, so not as big a deal as you, but I can still definitely relate. v_v

Protoss is really fucking easy. That's not me ranting or jumping on the "zomg, protoss ezmode" bandwagon. I'm just pointing out the facts. Protoss is an easy race. I can hop on a Protoss account and rape non-stop until C rank. I can almost reach the same rank as protoss as I can with Terran, the race I hardcore train.

Fucking frustrating. Yes there is lots of skill on protoss later on, but 1 simple mistake as Terran can cost you the game, even against a D+ Protoss. It only takes 1 small fucking mistake. Protoss is too forgiving. If you make a mistake you have about 20 seconds to react to it before it becomes a real problem.

/end rant.

Only PvT is easy because there's not much demand on micro, scouting and creativity. PvZ is a nightmare vs good zergs that know how to exploit your lack of harassment or scouting.

I very rarely play TvZ and i can handle B-/B level zergs, however, i play heaps of PvZ and i struggle vs B- level zergs.

Yeah, sure, Protoss is child's play at low levels, but once you reach the B ranks you can't rely on the same ol' tricks that worked against C/C+ level players.

I was mostly talking about PvT of course. And I've beaten plenty of B's so it's not some unattainable level that I have no concept of. I'm quite aware of that level.

Its not about bitching how easy one race is. On the first hand its about the fact that the lack of self confidence leads to strategies which tend to be all in or hard to pull off. Like 2 fac openings instead of just a simple fast expansion..
I know its not cheese, but a failed 2 fac rush gets you somewhat behind.

I know that if I play badly in a single game, then I'm pretty much dead for the rest of the night. You're just so psychologically impaired that the more you try to chase your losses and redeem yourself the worse your play becomes.

It's sometimes very tempting to chase those losses, but now when I play badly I force myself to just take a break, have a shower, do some homework, whatever. When you come back it'll be a lot better.

Same thing here, but on a lower level. I really feel like I am not such a bad Terran player. I know my timings in both matchups and my mechanics are way above average. But somehow, my opponent always does something nifty or sneaky and gets back at me. Sometimes, if I watch replays, it's just so depressing, because I see that my macro was better, my micro was better, but he just made some extremely bold move and I wasn't prepared..

I think my worst experience so far on iccup was losing to a Korean doing 9 pool speed 3 times in a row on Tau Cross, even when he told me he was going to do it before the game started

Just remind yourself, at the end of the day, you are merely looking at a piece of glass and pressing your fingers against various pieces of plastic. You are doing this all alone for several hours. Losing a game should be the last thing to depress you, so cheer up.. ?

I've been in this situation before, and I keep revisiting the same scenario from time to time. It's just a horrible slump, the only thing I can say to you is that your play always gets worse before it gets better, and it's true. So even if you're playing a whole lot, and feel like your just getting worse, that's okay, keep looking forward and think that it'll make you a stronger player in the long run.

I usually go on like "streaks" or whatever you'd wanna call it. I play a whole lot for a period of time, and I usually just get worse, sloppier, more losses. Then I cut it off, for like 5 days up to even 2 weeks where I just casually play one or two games or observe / watch replays. When I resume playing a lot (like laddering for instance) I usually realize i've gotten a little better. So it's a drawn out process, you just have to endure it.

I'm such a competitve player so my confidence really depends on how i'm performing. If I lose 2-3 games in a row, I'm basically the worst player in the world for a few hours. If I beat a few good opponents, I can carry that with me for a long time. I don't really know how you're supposed to get your confidence up, I mean people have different ways. Some are just flat out BM and convice themselves that they are always, and will always, be superior and better than anyone. Even though they lose. Sort of a defense mechanism I guess. For some it's mood dependant, and for some it's based on how they judge their actual skill level at the time.

Winners never quit, quitters never win.

Have you recently been playing people who are significantly better than the usual crop you play? Although, I can surly understand that slumps and such come around, but since I don't really know your whole situation I don't know if there's a cause for one or not. I'd make sure you just haven't been playing really good people due to increased skill on your part. That's the problem with getting better: You lose for a while.

Maybe it's your indecisiveness and scouting that you need to work on.
When I play TvP, I emphasize early scouting a lot, I sneak out early SCVs to constantly look for expansions and if something doesn't add up, I play more defensive. This decisiveness makes me much less prone to losing self confidence as a result of getting cheesed; if I get cheesed, usually I watch the replay and see something I could've done better in terms of scouting or turret/unit positions.
TvZ anticheese is pretty simple, just keep that first scv alive and send another one to see if he's massing speedlings. I'm not sure what kind of ZvT cheeses are getting to you.

I think you're relying too much on mechanics, and when something breaks your rhythm, it breaks your game at the same time.

Either you need to start making turret rings and planting mines in likely drop zones so you don't have to think about it, or you need to start watching your replays and figuring out the actual holes in your gameplay. Try scanning his army more often so you can guess if he's going for drop or not... In fact, scan more often period if your scanners are building up at all (it might be the hole in your game, check).

Other than that... I dunno... Dealing with drops in the main is designed to split your focus and hurt your push at those levels. Pull SCVs, send the next round of vultures, get back to what you're supposed to be doing in your push.

Just keep playing through the difficult periods and you shall emerge as a more experienced and more skilled player. Just remember to review every one of your losses and try and pinpoint the things that went wrong and how you should adapt your play.

One of my favorite ways is to close your eyes and remember one time you were really confident in your play, and pay attention to the colors and size of that image or video that shows up in your head. Change the colors and make the image extremely large, see it again... Then open your eyes, and you'll notice changes.

Yeah, I also think it is strategy that is creating the slump. Also unless you're a progamer, TvP usually favors P. Terrans aren't allowed mistakes in that matchup.
