Boat is a simple wooden boat w/ a motor attached to the end, and two rowing pedals in case the boat fails.
Once we're out we cast down the lines, and prepared for the reap, but none came, Then we saw something lurking beneath the surface.
Creeping closer, like a mound of thing under a carpet rolling near, it swam straight at our boat and...
it's a seal ~~
We all called out to it and had great interest, it circled around the boat several times looking up at us w/ its watery eyes. I managed to loss track of it at one point, and was wondering where it had went.
A loud splash and a thump, the boat began to swing rather violently. "EVAN!" dad shouted. But I starred in disbelief.
The seal was IN the boat!
It found the large wood ridge, which is the seat in the rear, and sit in a soaking furs and blubbers, it craned its head at each one of us, and when none of us moved, unable to comprehend wtf just happend, it stretched out its limbs and fell asleep.
We let it be, sometimes it wakes up and look at us, and then went back to sleep. It has tiny ears, and even a tail! what surprise, it has a tiny ball of a tail. And yes, being a mammal its body is covered with fine furs, but not the flippers, which looked rather leathery.
It props up one of the flippers high in the air and tilt its body to be perpendicular to the sun for maximum radiation. When it dried up one side it rolled around and started to dry the other side, it is good at tanning, much better than we are. In an hour or two it dried up its furs, and the color changed from the dampened black to a light shade of yellow and brown, the hair on its head began to stand up as it dried, it looks like it just had a hairdo.
I tried to do the flipper hand shake w/ it sea world style, it doesn't like it much, just wailed at me and drew its hand back. I was too afraid it would bite me if I kept trying to grab its fins, so I left it alone.
Fishing didn't go well though, the spot is no good, and we started the boat trying to find a new place. I thought for sure the seal would startle at the sound of the motor and jump off. Boy was I wrong! It didn't even care, or maybe even enjoyed it.
It stuck its head outside the boat as the boat splashed across the ocean, much like a dog sticking its head outside a car during a car ride. Other people fishing as well were so startled to "wtf" status as we drove by.
But after awhile the seal took off, after drying all its furs, and so we continued to fish.
By afternoon the cloud reared inland from the ocean, it was so low and so mean looking. Uncanning shapes, full of ridges and dents, like some thick spider web pattern, creeping closer.
Then lighnings went off in the distance, and we see streaks of dark colums dropping from the cloud to the sea, and those have to be rains.
So we went back with only 4 fish we caught, and ironically, those 4 are normally used for bait fish. wtf pwnt.
Chilled a little bit at the warf, watching the rain and the thunders go off, and then in the distant mountains, several huge bright rodes went down, and a little bit later, smoke went up(later on dad told me some mountains were on fire).
When it started to rain at the warf, we decided to go home. I was too drained to watch anything so I just fell asleep in the car and continued to sleep and sleep untill the next morning at 4am, and that's that.
Over all it was eventful in the non-fishing way, which is interesting.
cheers'
Edit:
Picture for reference, lucky I had a cellphone w/ me.
Seal is about half my size, so think of it as a large dog.
