Condensation Problem

So I currently co-own a Crossfit Gym. We relocated to a bigger location, and opted for a vynil type cover.

However we didn't anticipate both a humidity and a temperature problem.

Problem 1: Water condensates at the top and drips, like a tent at night. The fact that we have a bunch of people sweating all the time inside aggravates the problem.
Problem 2: During noon/night it gets too damn cold.

We do have some ideas on how to fix this, but I will abstain from commenting to not bias results from great TL community. I assume it involves some kind of heater and air extractor properly located.

Thanks in advance.

The cheapest option in my opinion would be to set up a dehumidifier. You can purchase a standalone unit(s) for relatively cheap, and they perform well. Just keep in mind that your structure might have more(or less?) humidity in it that an equal square foot conventional structure, so that might screw with getting the right size unit.

As for the temperature issue, it really depends on how much you want to spend on heating systems. In the US one can buy forced hot air furnaces for relatively low prices, and you can get oil or natural gas/propane ones. Electric heating units are cheaper to purchase/install but will cost more to operate. The most efficient systems are wall mounted condensating propane/nat. gas forced hot water boilers that run to baseboards, high efficiency radiators, or even radiant heat lines in a slab. These systems cost the most up front but will cost much less to operate.

Whatever your budget is, keep in mind how much it will be used, because if it is used heavily over time the operating costs will be more significant than if you were to just take the chill off before everyone heats it up themselves! Good luck with your gym it looks great!

Well, depending on how much you want to spend, here are some options

For humidity:

1. Dehumidifier + utilities. I really don't think a single unit will do the trick for a gym that large; most units are designed for living rooms and bedrooms.

2. Shitton of salt blocks. Salt is a pretty good dessicant, but the problem here would be that you would need to have several, rather large salt blocks with ample surface area to get rid of the humidity. Also, the humidity they absorb will condense into pools of water under them. I also feel like you might need to bake the water out of the salt at some point since your gym seems rather large.

For Temperature:

Heating is just a matter of proper insulation and volume. From the pictures, it seems like you are in an actual tent...definitely fix the insulation problem first before investing in any kind of heavy duty heating system. There is 0 insulation between you and the outside environment since the vinyl cover doesn't trap any air/has essentially 0 thickness. Line the insides with large sheets of thick cotton or a lot of bubble wrap. Those are the cheapest per square meter I think.

I can't see how large your equipment is, but if nothing is too tall, what you can do is try to install a solid ceiling to reduce the total volume of air that people are exposed to, saving on the amount of energy and increasing the efficiency of your heating system. I wouldn't recommend any kind of thermal blankets or anything flaccid cause some condensation is going to settle on top and make it look weird..not to mention being a potential safety hazard.

I think a central heating system using a furnace outside using insulated tubing going through your gym would probably work the best. The tube would have to be on the floor for you to feel the heat though.
