I rewrote this so I hope it’s understandable.

Is there any Metal Gear fan out there? I salute you! o7

Now, are there any newcomers here? This is mostly intended for you:

MGSV is a good game. It really is. I think that if I judge the game as an individual piece of work, the game is easily a top contender for ‘Game of the year’ 2015. Yeah I really think that.
Note that there are strong contenders out there, being the most notable for me The Witcher 3, probably the best open world game I’ve ever played. That’s only my opinion but the game rocks.

Now back on topic: don’t be fooled, MGSV is a good game but is far from being the best MG ever done or even worst – or most importantly – is far from being a complete, good, or standard, Metal Gear experience.

What do I mean? Well, if you ask any MG fan which is his/her favourite MG game, he/she will probably answer 1, 2, 3 or 4. No Peacewalker, no PO-… … that one…
And by that one I mean the only game that I think is worse than MGSV. Only one game is so bad (actually not that bad, is bad in terms of masterpieces as the MGS games are) that even Kojima is not sure about why that game exist (there's an interview too lazy to add link). If you want to know which game I’m talking about, I’ll give you the name of the game and you can already say ‘wtf?’… Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops.

Yes, Portable Ops, is not a way to call the game, it’s the actual name of the game. What about ‘Sons of Liberty’, ‘Snake Eater’, ‘Guns of the Patriots’, ‘Peacewalker’, ‘Ground Zeroes’ or ‘The Phantom Pain’. What the actual duck happened there. This game, as you noted because I marked the solid word, is canon. No matter what Kojima says, the game is fucking canon. Two VERY important characters make their debut in that game.

Again - back on topic. Is not like MGSV is a bad game either, is just that lacks that atmosphere of a Metal Gear game: one big mission, one big objective, lots of cut scenes describing the world status, Snake giving life lessons in his dialogs, etc.
In other words, the Metal Gear experience is much more like a ‘The last of us’ experience than ‘The Phantom Pain’ experience. I don’t want to bash the game for free, but it’s weird to have Big Boss doing so much random missions as ‘main missions’. I mean, destroying random tanks to help a random faction to win a battle, a battle we don’t witness? Killing a random Spetnaz commander? WTF.
Even in Peacewalker we have more story-related missions. Granted some were “move from this point to this point”, but guess what? You reached the point and met a new character (an important one) or a new boss fight or something interesting happened. In the other hand, after you kill the Spetnaz commander or destroy the enemy tanks… well there’s nothing. And then you have the third mission where something actually happens… well I haven’t tried because obviously I don’t know prior to a mission what is going to happen but… why not jump to those MAIN-MAIN missions?

Well, I haven’t finished the game, so you can bash me about that. I guess there is the possibility that the game changes the peace from my point to the following ‘episodes’. But even at the point I’m now placed, I can tell that all the past path of the game it is not a great MGS experience, and that’s my point.

I still think the game is great, my fucking god is good. The best open-military-world stealth-action game out there by far (maybe is the only one that exists? You have to give them credit for that). And I think is fair deserver of a 9/10. I only think it can become a 10/10 if the multiplayer is a success. Not only in terms of multiplayer-gameplay but also in terms of creating and developing a MGO community.

I've only watched somebody play through the game on twitch and it looked great. Sometimes it seemed a bit odd but only because you kind of have to compare it to the others. It seemed like a lot of fun though as long as you don't go into it expecting something like the others. I still enjoyed playing through twin snakes the most but I think I'd enjoy MGSV if I ever bother to buy it.

I just 100% it. It's still fun to run around with all the toys developed. Looking forward to invading/online.

Haven't been able to play much of this. Every other console MGS I smashed on release (and proceeded to get highest/2nd highest ranks on), but I just haven't been able to get the urge with this game to just go ham.

I'm only 23, so it can't be age - right?

As an aside, MGS3 is probably my favourite. Some really cool boss fights, cold war period was awesome, and DAT MUSIC (ladder scene l0l0l0l)

Looks like we agree in that the game is very good in general, but it's a different MGS game.

At least in consoles you can already infiltrate in enemies FOB as I know... I could be wrong. I saw some youtube gameplay videos...

i don't think you seem to comprehend the theme of the games, as you feel to judge every MGS game exactly the same way. kojima in essence is a creator that adapts and changes his style of story telling along with HIS portrayal of the story, NOT YOURS, to whatever system or type of game he wishes to creates and that is where his genius lies.

every game is a very, different game in which there is a differentiating feel to it, but because of how different it is, can be appreciated for it's own uniqueness. you clearly identify and worship the kind of MGS where there are more of cut scenes and life lessons, along with protagonist input, and no one can fault you for that.

here lies the main biggest problems to this game and not from your biased standpoint. first off the 2nd chapter to this series is more of a wrap up of the series of events that unfolded with the side-characters in the first chapter. i supposed a closure, which seems kinda forced. the game could have ended in the first 30 missions but i suppose it was apparent kojima didn't have much to tell of the story left or otherwise it would have felt dragged on. this is why you don't get a grand feel of the MGS world, because he honestly ran out of ideas for the continuation of the story, 30 missions till the end of saelanthropis (however you spell it) is rather short. the antagonist's also was looking good but when he himself revealed his plans in a car ride, felt forced and completely illogical. the fact the "third boy" was the amplifier to behind why the antagonist was even capable of doing the things he does, without the third boy being conscious or the master mind of the whole thing was the wrench in the whole plot.

2nd the main plot was clearly stated at the very beginning of the story after saving kaz. kaz stated something aloing the lines of, this is no longer about us, but revenge. the whole story line was driven on revenge and taking everything away from skull face. this was further exemplified by the fact the horn on snake's head grew as the story progressed and snake admitting he was turning more and more into a demon (bent on revenge) falls on the lines and words of kaz. i suppose you could be correct if snake should have more input about his feelings of revenge and kaz's input but kojima intended to focus the plot more on the problems that would occur re-creating motherbase and those who you bring in attempt to undermine it from the inside.

3rd, they hired kiefer sutherland (however you spell his name) the main actor of the TV show 24. i'm sure it cost a FUCK load of money to hire him as a voice actor, and with him probably not knowing ANYTHING about the MGS series, capable of actually voice acting with a deep plot. it was either his fault or the story writiers fault not giving him a good enough script. if anything it's probably a mixture of the 2 and why kojima decided to hire him to begin with knowing it wasn't going to be plot heavy along with only having him say a few words. not to mention i don't believe he was ever a voice actor before so he was merely given small lines.

@saocyn
Sadly I disagree in a lot of things with you except in the 3rd point about kiefer and the ... lack of lines. I'm pretty sure Big Boss has a lot more dialogue in Peacewaker
