... I just got demoted to the beginner's class of Muay Thai at my gym. *facepalm* Due to my performance at Monday's class. On Monday my training partner for several rounds was http://www.sherdog.com/fighter/Carlos-Vergara-72117 . I didn't even know who he was until I searched him up on google.

It has been years since I trained Muay Thai at another gym so I'm not too surprised about my demotion.

This is the address for the gym. http://rodrigopinheirobjj.com/

The gym's primary striking coach is Pete Spratt, former UFC fighter. Beat Robbie Lawler in the 2nd round (injury), fought GSP, and etc. The guy that teaches the beginner Muay Thai class is Vergara... my training partner on Monday.

It sucks that I have to go back to the basics after months of doing it in the past.

I was kind of in a shitty mood because I drove all the way to the gym (takes about 30 mins) only to be told that I can't participate in tonight's advanced Muay Thai class.

My shitty mood went away though when I walked outside... I saw both

http://www.sherdog.com/fighter/Diego-Brandao-25097

and

http://www.sherdog.com/fighter/Rodrigo-Pinheiro-23250 (the gym owner)

outside in the parking lot. As I was leaving they were going inside for the advanced classes I believe? I tried not to act like a groupie. I just said "Sup" and they were like "what's up brother" like as if we were training partners or some shit. haha

Diego Brandao and several other fighters comes to this gym a lot for sparring. Diego just replaced Cole Miller to fight Conor McGregor so he's probably starting his full camp soon.
---

Hard work and dedication and maybe I can go to the advanced classes

Good luck dude! I practised Muay Thai for almost a year, but when they moved me to the semi-advanced class and I started sparring with guys who were already fighting I got scared of ruining my beautiful face and I quit those kicks on the nose were too much to handle, lol. It served me, however - I still know enough basics to bull my friends.

Good luck and no fear of being hit! Otherwise, just quit. I wish I had the spirit to just charge like a bull and don't give a crap if my nose gets destroyed.

Cool man, make sure to video your bouts when you do them and put them up on TL like Jinro. And remember number 1 most important thing: staying injury free so take care of yourself.

how much do these classes cost to train? I read that fighters are underpayed but I wanted to get a sense of the costs of becoming a fighter

I doubt I'll ever actually fight. I only do Muay Thai & BJJ as a hobby. I already have a full time job, wife & 2 kids. I'm not trying to get fucked up in the gym lol. Who knows, maybe if I get good enough I could probably do a fight or two amateur wise. Ultimate goal though is to just be a good sparring partner for amateur/pro fighters. Help out with the gym and stuff.

For Muay Thai & BJJ classes together about $100-150 a month on a year contract. You can negotiate though. Gyms are a business just like anything else in the end.

Yeah my friend quit Muay Thai at another gym when someone accidentally kicked him in the head while holding pads. haha... he dropped the pads and walked out of the gym.

Muay thai is incredible, if we had any actual non-shitty gyms for it in where I live I'd do it in a heartbeat again. That said I'm having too much fun with hockey haha. Seriously though great choice in martial arts. Hard work and dedication and you will get back in no time, kill it bro.

diego brandao is my old jiu jitsu coach, when he first came to abq he worked at abq kickboxing which is where i went primarily, and then he ended up coaching somewhere else, but yeah, i got to work with him when he was all jiu jitsu and just wild punches. he was a great coach.

Yeah he taught the jiu jitsu class last night. Afterwards he sparred with people in the MMA class at our 8 PM class. Great instructor and funny guy. I was just watching the MMA class and he came up and patted me on the back. He started asking me questions and I was like WUT? I couldn't understand him he was talking real fast I just smiled and nod my head like I understood *facepalm*

The gym's main striking coach Pete Spratt (former UFC fighter) straight up told me my Muay Thai technique sucked ass. Another pro fighter told me I need to erase everything I learned and start fresh LOL.

Brutal honesty...

The only thing I don't like about Muay Thai is it screws up my wrists.

I think I'm holding the pads wrong when my partner practices kicks. The next day my wrists feel like shit.
