Well hello there TL. It's funny. I've trolled these forums for such a long time and never took the time to make an account but finally decided to do so. I used to play tons of SC and BW and have really been idle as a gamer but still enjoy watching and playing from time to time.
This blog is more to filter my thoughts throughout the day and put down things that may either help people, entertain them or even entertain me!
Motivation is one of my favorite things to talk about. I often go to different places and observe how people work. I've come to the realization that most people are unmotivated in what they do. 95% of the people I encounter are there just to make a paycheck and can't wait till it's quitting time. But then there is that 5%....Those people who are running back and forth to ensure things are being done properly, greeting every person within their path...Even when things are going wrong they still have that smile on their face. Those are the people I will interact with almost everytime because they want to help you. They want to succeed. If they are in sales they always want it more than anyone else!!!
I can appreciate that passion because I myself am in sales. I work for a highline car dealership and typically I do the best. People ask what makes me so different than the people around me? How can I succeed in poor months while others fail? How can you be so positive day in and day out when others seem to fall apart? The answer is simple.
I want it more than anyone else. There is a fire inside my soul that pushes me harder than anyone can. There is no manager or person who can push me to excel more than I can. There is a hunger, a desire to succed so badly that it hurts. I've never learned to accept defeat. You could be a better salesman than me but I would do anything to win. I'd work longer, harder and smarter just to be the best.
I read motivational quotes on a daily baisis to mentally prepare myself. One of my favorite quotes is “I am seeking. I am striving. I am in it with all my heart.” ~Vincent van Gogh
I enjoy helping others become sucessfull. I used to manage cell phone store and I still remember the day that I took it over. I watched what my guys did for a week. I worked 7 days straight, 12 hours each shift and just watched. I found their strengths and all of their weaknesses. At the end of that week we had a meeting and I looked my whole team and eyes and told them where we needed to improve. I promised them all that if they listened to what I was saying and tried my methods they would make 25% more commission in their first month. Now most people are skeptical especially if they don't know you but my team took a chance and we went from worst to 1st in practically every category and inspired these guys to become even better salesmen than they were before.
Now I ask you all... How many people have worked for people who were scared you'd take their job if they taught you all they knew? How many managers were threatened by your potential?
I love when people ask me those questions because I was and never will be afraid to teach people how to become more successful. We're human. We all need guidance. In our careers, life, health etc... If I can leave a mark on someone's life by helping them further themselves in their career so they can have a better quality of life I sure as hell will every time.
My passion, my motiviation is not only to be the best for myself but also to expect nothing but the best from the people who want to be successful.
There's not a more satisfying feeling than watching someone who used to work for me get promoted and sky rocket up the ranks. It's a great feeling knowing that I was able to pass on knowledge and skills that others have given to me freely.
What's your motivation in life?

So basically you have a big ego?

Seachiis. It's all based on perception. I beleive I am good at what I do and have the results to prove it. It may come off arrogant but it's not intended to be that way.

I get a lot of motivation out of working with others (and tapping into their motivation). Sucks when trying to work with someone unmotivated as it lowers my motivation as well...
|
I completely agree with you. I work in sales too - its amazing the amount of people who can't stomach it and fall out of the industry within just months. They come up with a bunch of bullshit excuses, but in the end, it just comes down to whether you can push yourself to prospect new customers/clients or not.

Great post, i felt like i could vibe with this.
I think it's important to be passionate about what we do, however that is not all the times possible. It's hard to find motivation to get up in the morning to be a janitor, or wake up in the morning to be a public transportation driver. I'm sure there are people out there that loves cleaning public toilets and driving metro buses, but again, as you've said 95% of people aren't passionate about their job. In a way, it's a good thing. Most people settle for mediocrity. Most people will take that shitty job that pays even if they don't like it, and they get bullied by their co-workers and bosses, but as long as they got paid, they'll stay. Most people go to work check facebook, troll teamliquid, troll yahoo news for 4 hours and talk to co-workers for 2 hours, and go to lunch for 1 hour and only work for 1-2 hour in the day. Then they wonder why everyone else has a promotion but they don't.
If everyone was super hardworking and passionate, there will be a lot of more competition. If everyone worked their butts off in sales for example, you would have way more competition than you already have, and you probably already have a lot. Being good at something is and should be hard, and only the hardest workers should be on top and they deserve to be.
i also believe that motivation need to be completely intrinsic and in generally the person must absolutely love what he/she does and believes that he/she is doing a good benefit for the society. It's hard to work hard if your only motivation is to make a lot of money. I know a lot of people that wants to start a buisness just to make a lot of money. Unsurprisingly that is a horrible motivational factor, and they all fail. Their main focus NEEDS to be "what can i do to benefit others" or "how can i help others in a way that others cannot". With that mindset I believe everyone would have a better chance of succeeding. In terms of speaking about sales and buisness, you are there to provide a service to another, and you must out compete your competitors in providing a service much better than your competitors.
My motivation is wanting to promote a healthy lifestyle to everyone around me. Currently in pharmacy school and a competitive athlete, I love nothing more than radiating health and nutrition to my peers and family. In addition I also love to see people commit their 100% effort in something and succeed in it. My wealth of knowledge isn't that big in most other things but in health and nutrition and endurance sports... those i'm excellent at. With those things in mind, it is what drives me to learn and pass my pharmacy classes, read about health and nutrition articles + a lot of self learning, and to push my body to the limits so eventually I can perform at a higher league/level in sports in order to build up credential for coaching in the future when i retire.
On a side note: i think it's very important to pay attention who you spend your leisure time with. In my opinion, it is better to spend time alone than spending it with unmotivated and unambitious people. Nothing wrong with them in particular, but in order to be the best at anything that you possibly can, you must also be with like minded people (although they dont necessarily have to be in the same field as you, as long as they are passionate about something).

If your first post on a site is going to be a blog about how you (unlike 95% of other people) are so motivated that you're succesful despite other people's innate talent and how you like to share that succes. That does not come off as arrogant, it is.
I clicked on your blog because motivation is an interesting phenomenon and one that's especially relevant to the average TL poster. But there's nothing to discuss in your post, an enumeration of vague self serving comments. "There is a fire inside my soul that pushes me harder than anyone can". Thx that's useful for me to know.
Count how many I's and me/my's there are in your 1st post. There's a difference between not being modest and throwing around your perceived success without reason.
Edit: nvm, this is going to be one of those "in order to be succesful you just have to throw everyone under the bus" kind of threads, I'm out.

in ewasoultaker's defense, it's his blog. A blog is usually but not limited to write about oneself ;P. He feels accomplished working that much in a week and believes he deserves kudos and he definitely does. But there probably could've been better use of words to make it sound less self-promoting.

Hahaha . Well phrased. I go off on tangents so it works out since you're right, it is my blog. But in retrospect you can always put things better later.

Basically, "If you complete this stupidly stressful double major, you'll be so fucking cool."

It's funny that you quote Vincent van Gogh. Because if there's ever been someone who was bad at sales, it's that guy.
Also you mentioning of being in sales gives me really bad vibes. But there's lots of different kinds of sales (retail versus industrial) so I'll give you the benefit of the doubt
I agree that a motivated employee is a good employee. Don't know about the 95% rate. Don't underestimate the joy of monotonous work. (I'm serious.)

Honestly curious, when you say "I want it more than anyone else", do you ever think about what "it" is, and find it to be worthless? That's what poisons me... Like succeeding at sales, it would feel like I'm good at parting people from their money, so they have to slave away to make more, to buy more stuff they don't need.
Not trying to be antagonizing... I admire your kind of attitude and ethic. Nothing great can be done without inner conviction.

My "it" would be success, recognition and of course I enjoy the money. I do agree there are some sales people out there who are snakes and very scandalous. I've seen many people taken advantage by such people and I decided a long time ago that I would be a great salesman that has integrity and morals. There have been many a time when I could have pushed someone to take a car priced quite a bit higher or sell them on some of the worthless products in finance but that's just not me. My whole thing is to ensure great customer service that people will remember for me being honest and friendly so that way next time they think of buying a vehicle or has a friend in the market for a car I will be the person they reccomend, not the person they say to stay clear of because they felt they've gotten cheated.

Van Gogh had said some powerful words and that was one quote that inspired me. I think about it a lot because I do beleive you need to put in a whole hearted effort in to what you to do. I don't quote him based on his amazing sales skills, It's the words he used that are the true inspiriation.
And for the record, I am in retail sales.
